A life plan, or when a woman wanted to make a choice. "Immorality may be fun, but it's not fun enough to take the place of one hundred percent virtue and three square meals a day."
Today’s comedies are mostly vulgar, stupid and very predictable. And if they are funny, they are mostly black comedies. But agree, sometimes you want something kind and pleasant that I would like to review and each time smile at the actions of the characters, getting charged with a good mood. Therefore, more and more often you start looking for the perfect comedy among the films of the last century.
I think I was very lucky to find in the filmography of the great actor Fredrik March the painting Design for Living. Seriously, it's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. From the very first scene, the plot begins to pour cheerful moments, so that a restrained smile quickly turns into an approving laugh.
I want to say that in comparison with modern romantic adventurous comedies, Design for Living is extremely witty and interesting. For its time, the picture is very colorful and piquant. And despite the fact that the film is pre-code, and there are some hints of sex, it does not look vulgar at all, and you can even safely show it to children.
The March-Hopkins-Cooper trio looks amazing. The first two have worked well since Jacquill and Hyde (even then I was wondering how they would look in another, less dramatic, more romantic film), and to be honest, watching them is a pleasure. The characters of George Curtis and Tom Chambers turned out to be terribly gallant and charming, in the spirit of the times, but not without a bit of humor.
The film is incredibly good, and in my opinion it has no flaws. Dynamic plot, funny situations, and most importantly, no character causes irritation. There’s a lot of competition between them.
And the end of it... Let's face it, she'll be unexpected.
