It’s cool to have actors like Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler or Jim Carrey. They are a kind of guarantee of quality, in the sense that you always know what you get when you watch their movies. “Meeting your parents” is no exception.
The picture of the tape is very cozy, which is expressed, first of all, quite classical camera work and natural lighting. In fact, the main task of the director was to create a favorable atmosphere that would allow you to follow the humorous embarrassments on the screen, without being distracted by external stimuli. And I must say that the creators managed to achieve the desired effect. The inclusion of shooting “with hands”, under the mocumentaries, looks cute, positively affecting the perception of the picture.
Acting mainly revolves around the duo Stiller and De Niro. I must admit that the opposite of these two actors looks advantageous in the context of the work. De Niro’s rather unobvious quality as an actor is that he holds the standard. It doesn’t matter if we have a noir mafia boss or a comic father with hyperguardia – the old Italian always plays for everything. Stiller is as amusing in his stupidity as ever that he cannot but rejoice.
The plot is just an interesting seed, which has accumulated all sorts of stereotypes and cinematic tropes about relationships, family and marriage, along the way well ridiculed everything. The idea is interesting, but the main question is whether it allows you to successfully build a puzzle of various sketches and funny miniatures? The answer is yes, of course. You don't need more.
"Meeting the Parents" is a genre movie. And it should be evaluated in accordance with the genre. Since all the criteria are met, and the overall impression is extremely positive, we can safely say that the film is a good representative of romantic comedy with modern American humor. In other words, it is a great way to pass the evening.
39: O Lord, thank you for being so kind to us, dear, glorious God. We thank you. Affectionate Lord of hospitality for those daily snacks that you put before us so in time today and put daily, day after day... Amen'
The whole film is just teeming with all sorts of witty grins or, rather, even refined - refined sarcasm and it should be noted that despite the fact that the film is almost 2 decades old, the humor of the problematic acquaintance of Gaylord Focker in the stunning performance of Ben Stiller with the father of the honorable family with his ' daughters on the issue' Jack Burns (Robert De Niro) looks still fresh and life-affirming.
The ability to ridicule the unsightly sides of the largely contradictory world order and not to hurt anyone at the same time, while making you laugh from the heart and believe what is happening as a matter of course, it is not simple and you need to think that you need to have an incredible talent to smooth out all the sharp corners when it comes to such a trivial subject as acquaintance with parents.
In the pictures, where good-natured ridicule should remain good-natured and funny, as always, innocent and correctly selected faces of the beloved actors, looking at which, you forget about everything else, and the verified text in addition, is able to bring out a real cult comedy ...
The father of the family Robert De Niro in the company of nurse Ben Stiller, in his roles here as infused, not counting Owen Wilson, James Rebhorn. In short, it is enough to look at the whole company from this angle and already ridiculous to tears. 55,000,000 dollars, all the same, for a feature film money is not small and they played a hundred percent. Great movie!
Sooner or later in the lives of more than half of loving couples comes the moment when they need to get acquainted with the parents of the bride and groom. This is a very difficult thing, because the older generation sometimes has a complex character, which is almost impossible to melt. However, with great desire even this is possible. This is what the comedy “Meet the Parents” tells us, which in the early 00s became a huge hit of the rental, and not only in the United States.
The plot tells us the story of Greg Focker, an ordinary nurse with no special life prospects, who fell in love with Pamela Barnes, a girl from a decent family who knows her worth for sure. At the same time, Pamela with a pure heart fell in love with the sweet knave Greg and, contrary to common sense, decided to tie the knot with him. Greg needs to be shown to his parents first, and this case is complicated.
Pamela’s father is a former CIA agent. But the concept of "ex" to a man like Jack Burns hardly applies. Jack can sit at home for days, but he will not be able to beat the old temper out of him, and he begins to take a special initiative in relation to Greg, who will not find a place under the same roof with a man who refuses to compromise.
I can’t say that I wanted to laugh all the time while watching Meet the Parents, but I liked the film with its actors, an interesting topic and a couple of great jokes, most of which are related to Jack’s beloved cat, who loves him almost as much as his daughter.
The duo of Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro have definitely made this story iconic, with many films quoting their complex relationship and ridiculing a parody game that sometimes borders on complete absurdity. But unlike the sequels, "Meet the Parents" still manages to keep the balance and does not become a comedy that seeks to show as many nasty things as possible. This made me happy, especially after watching "Meet the Fockers."
This film may not be perfect, but it is entertaining and does not deliver frowning experiences. It should be made a little more active and bolder, although many plot twists of "Meet the parents" have long become cult, and therefore take the film as it is and relax at the screen.

If the foreword of the picture was not so protracted-predictable, Jay Roach would attract the attention of fans of the humorous genre much more than it turned out in fact. But, whether because of the fact that it is always difficult to start, or because of neglect of extraordinary moves in fear of commercial failure, the plot acquires a grayish shade, with a mark-up for the implementation of typical (god forgive me) American jokes about (sorry again) whips, exuberant CIA man, inadequate relatives with inflated conceit and shit.
The set is standard, stuffed with “sticks of the Paleolithic era”, but cheerful lungs of the head still and not less.
But despite such a mediocre introduction, closer to the middle of the film, with the appearance of Wilson’s charm and the disclosure of the backbone of all ridiculous situations (a Ben Stiller coped with his task for “hurrah”) Trahera, really funny scenes and dialogues begin to trickle in. The hero of Robert De Niro, from the same moment, begins to “slow down” the audience emotions, prompting the latter to really stand in the place of the nurse-groom and feel what it should.
It makes no sense to talk about the conveyor ending completely, since such films are not shot for the sake of the final, but for the process. The process turned out to be cute, sometimes boring, a little annoying and certainly easy, which is quite suitable for a one-time evening viewing.

I don’t know how this movie got past me. I clearly remember watching the second part, namely “Meet the Fackers”, but for some reason I did not watch either the sequel or the beginning of this comedy. And she deserves attention. Here we have a great cast (except for Owen, even as a young man, he annoys me, or rather his ass nose annoys me). Also a great sense of humor, unusual situations and of course morality.
Ben Stiller played a loser in love who desperately wanted to please his fiancée's father. And instead of being outspoken, being himself, he was just spinning around in a frying pan just to get his father's approval. It doesn’t matter which way, whether it’s truth or deception. More often, of course, it was a hoax. And all this led to real tragedies and troubles in the life of the couple, and in general the whole family. And it was very funny. Yes, not even the events themselves, how many dialogues between my father and groom led me to the utter delight and caused a loud laugh.
Robert Deniro is a great actor. He will always, always be young and beautiful, and the years are taking their toll, but his smile, his squint, they tell us — guys, I’m still here in the Olympus and I’m not going to give up my position, I will surprise you again. So it is, Deniro continues to delight us with new and new amazing roles.
I really liked this movie. I laughed from the heart, I sympathized with the main characters, both the couple in love and the parents of the bride, this is what a loser clumsy found their beloved daughter. First-class work. A film for all time!
Ben Stiller simply had no chance to bypass great art, as before him there was always a glorious example of his famous parents, the famous comedian Jerry Stiller and his mother, the popular actress Anne Mira, known including for the role of grandmother Dorothy from the TV series “Alph”. Growing up in such an extraordinary creative family, Stiller had the opportunity at a fairly young age to get acquainted with a considerable number of well-deserved celebrities and finally decided on his further profession, which he volunteered at the University of California Los Angeles at the Department of Cinematography. Having managed to get the long-awaited diploma without unnecessary problems and scandals, Stiller began with special zeal to embody the potential inherent in it with his mother's milk, putting a number of rather attractive short films of a predominantly parody nature, after which the producers of the entertainment show Saturday Night Live drew attention to him, thereby giving the career of the young comedian a tangible impetus. Not stopping there, soon Stiller gets the right to create a personal humorous program and simultaneously participates in the shooting of a full-length movie, including an episodic but juicy appearance in the comedy Lucky Gilmore. Nevertheless, the real fame came to Ben Stiller after participating in the mischievous film of Bob and Peter Farrelly “Everything is crazy about Mary”, where he received a much more significant role and managed to interest the widest audience in his image, which allowed the film to easily recoup all production costs. Properly taking advantage of the opportunities of box office cinema, in the future Stiller tries to make exceptionally balanced decisions, not forgetting to make fun of himself and everything that surrounds him. And such dedication could not but get into the field of view of director Jay Roach, who made a name for himself on the adventures of the British spy Austin Powers and decided to diversify his filmography with the comedy “Meet the Parents”, promising a true domestic madness with a special creative twist. Having invited Stiller to one of the leading roles, Roach thereby finally confirmed the comedian in the Hollywood sky and at the same time united him with Robert De Niro, with whom they formed a long-playing and winning tandem.
So, the plot of the film introduces us to the nurse, who from his parents got a very unusual name Gaylord "Greg" Facker (Stiller). But even though it was time to laugh at him, Greg still managed to find his love in the face of the charming Pam (Teri Polo). Almost a year building a reverent relationship, young people decide to eventually tie the knot, but before that they need to go on a weekend to the parents of the girl, so they could appreciate the groom. However, the trip will be for Greg even more test, as Pam’s father, strong-willed and authoritarian Jack Burns (De Niro) does not harbor warm feelings towards the guy who did not even bother to graduate to become a full-fledged doctor. Nevertheless, the heroes will have to spend together under one roof for several days in a row, and therefore they willy-nilly, but have to look for common points of contact with each other. And if old Jack is not in a hurry to go to contact with Greg, then the latter on the contrary tries to do everything necessary to achieve the location of the future father-in-law and thereby achieve a long-awaited reconciliation. But as is often the case, good intentions pave the way to total disaster. Trying to become his own for the Burns family, Greg makes a number of irreparable mistakes and personally destroys the happiness he has been seeking for so long. And when Pam’s ex-boyfriend, handsome and wealthy Kevin (Owen Wilson), is on the horizon, the chances of an ordinary nurse’s success begin to fade at the speed of light. Of course, this is not what Greg expected from meeting his parents and put his hands down at the time to go home, but love sometimes has simply incredible properties and is able to perform a miracle where it can no longer be. So it’s too early to put an end to the story of Greg and the Burns family.
In "Meet the Parents" is not so important script and well-written drama as the charisma of the main actors, Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. Both actors have considerable talent, but their energy is directly opposite to each other, which is what Jay Roach decided to play. So it doesn’t matter what scenery the story takes place in, who is in the background here, or what a narrative that was originally programmed to have a positive outcome will lead to. What matters is what Stiller and De Niro will show in the frame, as well as which of them will be more agile and resourceful. And the actors really didn't let us down. Having reached a serious age threshold, De Niro is entitled to be considered a master, around whom all the action should revolve, but at the same time he does not irritate with his caricature obstinacy, but on the contrary makes him watch his specific actions with a sense of mischievous fun. Jack Burns, played by De Niro, deliberately wants to appear as a notorious family dictator, but on closer inspection it is clear that he is capable of empathy and, despite his outright dislike for Greg, makes it clear that the happiness of his daughter has the highest priority for him. And in such a situation it is very difficult to treat Jack with a sense of absolute indignation, because like any father, he is worried about the most secret that he has and will fight for the happiness of his baby to the end.
In turn, Greg Focker, played by Ben Stiller, is the complete antipode of the indisputable Jack Burns, and brings a fair share of confusion to the narrative. Whatever Greg puts his hand on, it doesn’t work out the way he intended. Trying at all costs to please the father of the bride, the hero constantly gets into trouble, thereby destroying his already not cloudless reputation. But even though some of Greg's actions cause considerable surprise and make him see an outright fool, it is still easy to imbue him with sympathy. As with Jack Burns, Greg Focker just believes in his ideals, tries to do his best and makes serious mistakes, but he does it from the heart. I do not dispute that in the tape of Jay Roach there are many frankly naive, fictional moments, which are very difficult to believe, but how the comedy “Meet the Parents” worked very well. The film can be missed some absurdities and unnecessary episodes, because for the most part it brings us only positive emotions and teaches us to be tolerant despite quarrelsome features of character.
In the end, I want to say that “Meet the Parents” is able to cheer up and pleases us with excellent works by Stiller and De Niro, who together simply sparkle with charisma.
The movie is awesome. I've seen it a few times. It's not boring. The scene when Greg made a fire just brutal - it was fun and funny. It was also funny when my dad was testing Greg for strength. Well, the scene when Greg was kicked out of the house is also fun, funny and funny. The actors are good. Ben Steeler, Robert De Niro, Owen Wilson, etc. All right. All respect and respect. In a word, they're all smart. I know a guy from a very scary movie. I love seeing familiar faces in movies. Like that. The scenery in the comedy is great - Jack's house itself is made very beautifully - chic and shine. It's kind of a tray. By God. And the outfits of the main characters of the film are also good - beautiful, stylish and fashionable. Here we go. In short, it's a glimpse.
The philosophy of comedy is that Dad put his daughter's fiancé to the test. Like that. And the film teaches you to just relax and watch a quiet movie. It's all a rack. In short, it’s a philosophy.
Meet the parents - a good comedy about the groom, bride and father of the family. Everybody watch. I take one point off due to the excessive length of some scenes in the film. And that's okay.
This American comedy can be called a wonderful film for the whole family. No matter how much I watch this movie, I laugh every time. At one time, the film was very popular, collected a huge jackpot around the world and pleased both viewers and critics. This story was even filmed in a parody in the film "Film date", and the movie itself served as two more continuations of the stories under the names "Meet the Fockers 1 and 2".
In this story, we see how the main character, whose name is Greg Tracher, goes with his girlfriend to meet her parents. The father of his beloved is a real tyrant and not an ordinary person. Ordinary acquaintance with parents turns into a series of incredible, comical events with the ensuing ridiculous consequences.
This comedy makes so good a lot of things at once: a beautiful script, killer humor, wonderful directing, a pleasant atmosphere that stood in the film, and of course, famous American actors. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro just lit up in this comedy. Their duet groom and father-in-law turned out to be incredibly funny, both actors gave one hundred percent and are the heart and soul of this comedy.
In the history of the film countless unexpected, funny moments. When you watch this comedy for the first time, it makes you cry. We have a really high-quality and good comedy for all time.
"Meet the Parents" is a 2000 American comedy directed by Jay Roach. The film is on my list of the most beloved and funny comedies I've seen. If you want to see something really funny, turn on this movie. Have fun! I see this movie positively and I say yes to it. Everyone enjoy watching, great mood and good movies. Thank you.
Under his father's hat, the CIA in the palm of his hand.
The relationship between a man and a woman, especially at an early stage, is a very painstaking process. It all begins with love and sympathy, smoothly flowing into courtship. Then you can go for a walk together, to the cinema, cafe, restaurant and so on until complete proximity. After the stage of falling in love comes love, I think you enjoy every moment you spend with your half. When you reach a certain stage, new perspectives appear on the horizon, such as family and children. But before you move on and set such goals, you need to get acquainted with the parents of your beloved. The nurse of the Chicago hospital dreamy Greg Focker, a man with an incredible, agree, last name for 10 months has been dating the charming Pam Burns, a teacher in kindergarten. They seem happy together. In a phone conversation with her sister Pam, she says that she is getting married soon and her boyfriend asked permission for the wedding in advance from his father to bless their marriage. Great idea! Our heroes also decide on this step: To go for the weekend from Chicago to New York to Pam’s parents to ask for the hand and heart of their daughter from their father, and at the same time get acquainted with the whole family.
At first, during the flight from Chicago to New York, a situation occurs during which the luggage of the protagonist unsuccessfully passed at the airport through the checkpoint is sent on a separate flight due to their unacceptable dimensions, which the characters must pick up after arriving in New York. However, the luggage does not get there and is lost, which forces Greg to go to the department and report missing things. Of course, this did not much darken their day, after which they come to the country estate to the parents of Pam, who informs her boyfriend about the strange inclinations of her father. So on arrival home they are met by the usual-looking John and Deena Burns - the father and mother of the main lady of the film, but the devil, as they say, hides in the details. The father, played by the legendary Robert De Niro, immediately shows an atypical interest in the direction of Greg, asking him about the parameters of the car he rented. The character of the father is not immediately defying description, but looking at him you can see that he is by no means simple.
At home, the parents begin a more detailed acquaintance with the character of Stiller, starting with the question of the pronunciation of his incredible surname. Then there are the introductions to the family circle, who is a brother, who is a matchmaker, and who is a sister. A trained cat named Oblom, which can jump on the command of the owner to his arms and walk on the toilet itself. The sweetest wife and mother, who considers everyone who does not see pleasant and good, sees only positive qualities in all. Isn't that the kind of family you dream of? I think it's a good option. And the father, although he finds fault, also seems quite a pleasant appearance of a man.
However, at one point, everything changes when De Niro’s father shows the potential son-in-law Stiller his miracle teddy bear with a built-in camera. Interestingly, it would seem, but in the room on the fireplace he hid another. Later, between the rustic Greg and the slightly swaggering Jack, a number of misunderstandings occur that determine their fate, especially Greg’s path to achieving the goal of obtaining the possible blessing of his father. I was very entertained to watch how funny and inept Greg gets more and more into the opal of De Niro's character. Well, when it turns out that the main supporter of a worthy candidacy for his daughter is a retired Central Intelligence Agency agent who worked for 35 years splitting double agents of his department and it will not be sweet to get such a hand, even if you are a contender for his shyness.
The picture fills the events with a series of curious moments from the very beginning to the very end and the final scene, which are absolutely impossible to predict. Director and producer Jay Roach is famous and famous for his epochal, shocking and very extravagant series about Austin Powers, a comedian-spy performed by Michael Myers, which I do not remember when I watched, but nevertheless I remember the main antagonist from there - Doctor Evil, many, many different girls and Elizabeth Hurley. I don't remember if Evil was caught in the end or if he surrendered. Anyway, now, I think I have a reason to watch all the films from the trilogy about the comedian-agent in full, and the reason for this I already have in circulation, because I wrote a review of one of the films of his director Jay Roach, by the way, who shot a pretty high-quality family comedy.
Son-in-law, neither give nor take. Father-in-law - where to sit, there and get off
An unlucky nurse named Fucker (Fucker translated into Russian as Traher), taking advantage of the opportunity - the wedding of his sister, goes to the house of his chosen one Pam to be represented by his future father-in-law and mother-in-law. And if Facker finds a common language with his mother without any problems, then with Dad everything is much more complicated. The father-in-law, posing as a flower grower, turns out to be a retired secret CIA agent specializing in drawing psychological portraits of criminals and double agents. Professional skills and great connections allowed him to equip the house with the latest technology.
Every room in the house of Pam’s parents was stuffed with video cameras, and in the basement of the former spy, Focker finds a real laboratory with a lie detector. Without a shadow of embarrassment, the vigilant father-in-law, who has previously discouraged several potential son-in-law, immediately invites the new candidate to undergo a test interrogation. Excessively caring for the daughter of the father should not be difficult to “convict” Focker’s klutz in non-existent addictions to porn and drugs. Soon realizing that the main thing at any cost to please the father, Focker begins to get out of his way, but in the end commits a lot of suicidal offenses.
The comedy, which was not foreshadowed by any particular success, not only entered the leading annual top ten Hollywood hits, but also left behind such favorites as “X-Men”, “Very Scary Movie” and “What Hides the Lies”. Director Jay Roach became famous after the release of two series about Austin Powers, which became super hits in America and failed in the rest of the world, including in Russia. But this time, the director managed to make a truly international multi-comedy based on a series of on-duty anecdotes.
Ben Stiller, “starred” after the release in 1998 of the comedy “Something about Mary”, in the role of Focker already openly exploits the previously found image of a total loser and perfectly copes with the role of a frightened groom. Surprisingly, this role was originally intended for Jim Carrie, working in a completely different way. But Robert De Niro after the success of “Analyze This!”, it seems, began to “seriously” master the comedic role, which seemed a promising solution on the threshold of coming old age. True, in "Meet the Parents" he is so actively "clap" all parts of the face (except for the ears), that involuntarily begins to suspect him of a secret desire to become a new Louis De Funes.
This tape continues a series of paintings in which one way or another there is / shows acquaintance with the parents of the bride. The acquaintance itself takes place in a rather tense style - all because the daddy is very worried about his daughter and naturally sees in each potential candidate some tricks. But, on the other hand, if everything was smooth, then the picture itself would not look so interesting.
A curious find – cameras installed in all corners of the house. In principle, for a CIA employee, this is a fairly standard move when solving their spying tasks. By the way, in this case, the creators of the film only foresaw what is happening now in the market of technical “biggins” – there are entire companies that are engaged in the creation and sale of such devices. Throughout the film, a colorful cat intervenes in the plot action - I do not understand their varieties, but it is immediately noticeable that the cat is purebred. And apparently very smart. He is the plot element that “delays” some of the dramatic tension of the film.
The topic that is stated in the tape – checking the groom – is very relevant in general for any family, and if you take into account the CIA past of the daddy, it looks like a matter of course. It is worth noting that the hero of Ben Stiller all the trials that he gets, withstands with honor. He plays easily, convincingly and elegantly. You believe and empathize with his hero. Towards the end of the film, Daddy and the new fiancé expose each other.
The scene of mutual exposure occurs with a fairly large crowd of people. You expect them to be blood enemies forever. But in fact, it only further fuels the action, and then they gradually come to terms. Which, by the way, can not but rejoice. Very interesting scene with a fire on the front lawn. This is such a small adventure. After all, the flame is engaged gradually, and, it would seem, nothing foreshadows trouble, but then it results in a rather strong fire. Nice shot.
Almost at the very end of the film – after the reconciliation of the two warring parties – a phrase that I really liked: “Be my son-in-law.” It sounds, quite frankly, creative and surprisingly appropriate. Verdict: the film will suit all fans of good American comedies, where the best stars are engaged, and a rather tense plot results in the reconciliation of the heroes and a happy ending.

So, Barbra Streisand’s third directing experience – the romantic comedy “The Mirror Has Two Faces” (1996), in principle, came out successful. However, in terms of box office, the film made a profit only due to fees in Europe, since in the United States the film gained as much money as it was spent on it.
After that, Streisand thought about leaving the cinema. In 1998, the singer married again. But, in 2004, the actress still returned to the movies, playing in the comedy “Meet the Fockers”. However, this film is only a sequel to Meet the Parents (2000), in which Barbra Streisand did not appear.
I’ll write about “Meet the Fockers” later, but I think it’s incorrect to write about the second part without missing the first one. So the plot of this film is this:
Greg Tracher (well, the last name, however) works as a nurse (yes, it happens). He meets with teacher Pam Burns, who wants to propose. The couple goes to Pam’s parents for the wedding of Debbie’s older sister, where Greg intends to ask for her hand from Pam’s father, Jack Burns.
But this is where the problems begin: Pam’s father is a retired CIA agent who loves to check the lice of his daughter’s boys, while without a lie detector and a “truth serum” (sodium pentothal), as a rule, does not do. And Pam’s ex-boyfriend Kevin is a stock tycoon with very versatile talents, who is going to be the best man at the wedding of his sister Debbie.
Well, first of all, let me say hello to the person who translated this film into Russian. I do not know who came up with such a “genius idea” to translate the name Facker as Tracher, but what this person was doing at that time, it is quite possible to assume. However, let’s leave it on the conscience of the translators, the good of the second part they have already corrected.
The plot of the film is not very original. But this is far from its biggest drawback. The level of humor in the film can be described as “the dumber, the funnier.” Still, the days when Hollywood was able to laugh, not falling below the belt, alas, gone forever.
The script of the film suffers from some dissonance. For example, every minute it becomes more and more difficult to condescend to the sadistic mockery of the hero Robert De Niro over the hero Ben Stiller. Still, there's one old Hollywood rule of the '40s and '50s missing: "crime follows punishment." I think this finale in relation to the hero De Niro would look very useful.
Acting in the tape is far from perfect. Ben Stiller looks pretty stupid in the role of Greg, although, apparently, it was intended. To say that his character in the film is so funny is not risky, but still say that he tries. Robert De Niro as the father of the bride Greg plays less convincingly - yet comedy is not his genre.
Teri Polo as Greg's fiancée looks pale. If you think about it, it is her character in the film that is the main stumbling block, but the situation with her here is like in Don Quixote. As we remember, in the novel for the sake of Dulcinea, the main character performs all his “feats”, but Dulcinea herself does not appear in the plot.
Here we have, in principle, the same picture - the heroine of Polo, as it were, exists and we see her. For her, the characters of the film create a real madhouse, but Pam herself somehow pales in the film and does not stand out. I can say the same about Teri Polo.
Blythe Danner as the wife of De Niro’s character sometimes looks like Lauren Bacall (in older age), but plays well. Owen Wilson is funny as Greg's ex-fiancée.
The soundtrack of the film is worthy of attention and the Oscar nomination for the song "A Fool In Love" sounded on the credits is very deserved. The film was shot without any camera delights, but very professional.
Summing up, I can say that the comedy turned out for once - you can watch the film, but laugh - it depends on the specific viewer. I laughed a couple of times throughout the film, but nothing more. So, I will not recommend the film to anyone in particular - here the viewer should decide for himself! Thank you very much.
A classic of American comedy. And if you are a fan of American comedies in general, then you should have this film in your video library!
It’s just amazing how I managed not to see this movie in my time, but rather at a time when it was probably played in all theaters. And I'm just so happy that the film came to me as "Recommended for viewing."
From the very first minutes, I realized that I definitely will not be bored, because the actors from the first seconds fascinate with their charm. No longer in 1 comedy, I have not seen so many famous and talented actors, which is only one Robert De Niro - the most talented and charming actor of all time! And Ben Stiller, he's doing great in this movie! It is possible that the film would not be so wonderful if not for all these talented actors put together, but together they created a truly unique atmosphere.
The plot is banal, but the idea is genius! A sea of funny situations, funny moments, but all this did not go as in many modern American comedies.
The film lifts the mood just to heaven. Watch everyone.
The fact that the film is matchless can be seen at the box office, they are simply huge. Getting to know your parents is good at everything. Here and the plot for the top ten, the actors play perfectly, and there is a lot of humor, laughed for a long time. I especially wanted to mention the role of Robert De Niro, aka Jack Burns, playing a retired CIA. In his role, he fit well, just beautifully, as if he really was.
Sanitary Henry Tracher is in love with his girlfriend Pam and wants to marry her, but without the consent of his parents can not do. And so Henry and Pam go to her parents. That's where Henry meets a former CIA schnik, Jack Burns, who Henry clearly did not like from the first minutes.
Henry in life, you can say a loser, and trying to win the respect of Pam's father, finds himself in various kinds of awkward situations. That's where the laughter starts. Moments on which you can laugh from the heart a lot, and most importantly, that this humor is understandable to everyone, i.e. there is no division into American humor or any other (if you at least once heard an American joke, you will understand what I mean). I think every father who has a daughter has a little Jack Burns. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a real father. But I will not pour water, you can only say good things about this film, be sure to watch if you have not seen it yet, you will not regret the time spent.

'Meeting my parents' I remember the quality of American humor. Situations are comical, funny, and sometimes even cause feelings of pity for the main characters. Jokes are not vulgar as in ordinary youth comedies, and dialogues are written with intelligence and some clever irony. It is a pleasure to watch such films and admire the acting, enjoy dialogue and high-quality picture.
The idea of the film is common: a young man, Greg Facker, a nurse, wants to propose to his beloved Pam Burns, but before that he needs to meet her parents and get the blessing of his father. From this moment, Greg’s life turns into one nightmare: his suitcase was lost at the airport, Pam’s father did not approve of the choice of his daughter, and Greg’s efforts led only to the fact that he accidentally upset the wedding of Deborah, Pam’s sister.
It is amazing how two actors, different in character, could so merge and in one tandem portray a real conflict, serious and tense. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro looked very authentic: Greg turned out to be a nasty, modest, kind guy, ready to do anything for his bride, and Jack, the father, conquered me with his rigor and ' suspicious of everyone' love for his daughter.
The women of the Burns family, played by Teri Polo and Blythe Danner, look wiser, more restrained than their chosen ones. They only emphasize the everyday situation with their beautiful game. In real life, it is: women often restrain the emotions of their men and in one word resolve any dispute, pointing them to the mistakes made.
I would also like to mention Owen Wilson, who, with his small role, also added to the tragedy of Focker's situation. A kind romantic, master in everything, the favorite of Pam’s father and her former boyfriend only enhances the absurdity and insignificance of Greg.
Overall, the film is very good. Jay Roach managed to show himself in it as a real director of comedies, after a little silly ' Austin Powers' This good family comedy with a simple plot and not a long game is worth watching.
