Confluence of East and West. Another film by an amazing director (my favorite) that I watched yesterday (for the first time). Previously, I did not take Vivek Oberoy very seriously, but I was a charmer, and the son of a famous actor of previous years, but I got a foothold in Bollywood. But to me, he was just another bell boy. Either his roles were not so serious, or I just came across such films where I did not see anything special in him, or something else. To me, he seemed like a superficial actor. But yesterday, after watching this movie, I realized that Vivek is power, it is power, it is talent. In this role I saw him for the first time (at the very beginning, he caused me to associate with Jesus Christ) precisely with his appearance. Long hair, mustaches with a beard, clothes - well, just like Christ as descended from the icon. It immediately stuck me to the screen.
A lot about this movie is amazing. One cameraman and a composer are worth it. Both are Oscar-winning personalities. You have to watch this movie on the big screen, that’s for sure! Music is just divine, sitting and enjoying Indian music, fantastic. And I finally got a glimpse of Vivek...
The film has gorgeous landscapes, a lot of touching moments between the main characters. And of course Kisna... Such a real man... A man of his word. He loves and respects his family and traditions.
Very well invented storyline - the interweaving of the past and modern, religious, historical facts and love story. In my opinion, such love was doomed in the beginning. This is the whole of India with its centuries-old foundations. I gave my word and I can't break it. And the soul-stricken phrase "The story of our love is not finished, with separation it only begins."
The cast is excellent.
Kisna (Vivek Oberoy): Well done, there’s nothing to talk about, 100%. From the scene where he fights with his brother goosebumps... What anger and at the same time pain and prayer in the eyes, gestures. Romantic moments stir the blood. How gentle and sweet he is. For me, this is his best role (at least until I saw his other similar roles).
Lakshmi (Isha Shervani), the bride Kisny - very beautiful eyes, but not very similar to an Indian woman. The girl is cute, but not beautiful, but I was very surprised by her plasticity. How famously she was on the rope. Acrobat or something, unfortunately, this actress nowhere else I see. But here she showed her love - passionate, with jealousy, but at the same time with the certainty that her Kisna would be hers, although at the end she admitted that Kisna was her body, but her soul was Katherine. But her dancing... What a beautiful and plastic body.
Katherine (Antonia Bernat) - The girl is pretty, an inch girl with blue eyes, especially in dresses with frills and bare shoulders, in Indian clothes is beautiful, but she is some kind of cold, in short, a true English aristocratic. In her eyes I did not see love for Kisna. I liked the older Katherine, this is her love, or maybe it was intended.
Sushmita Sen is the best musical performance I have ever seen. No self-admiration, she just danced the story, I completely disappeared into it. No wonder this dance was considered and considered the best in Bollywood. Mimics, movements - everything is great.
There is everything in this movie. Good plot, great camera work, great music, great director, and a good cast. In my opinion, the film was 100% successful.
I especially want to mention the music. It is archaic, which distinguishes it from many other Bollywood tunes. You watch a modern film, but you understand that you have the spirit of that time, everything is conveyed to the smallest detail believable. This is an unobtrusive accompaniment, with a smooth transition to songs - just amazing.
And there are just stunning, touching moments in the film that created incredible magic and love for two people. You believe there's love, you don't even have to say it, there's no words, it's only at the end of the movie, but at the beginning you know it's love. What I liked especially, and I can recommend it to everyone when you start watching the film, in five minutes you will forget who these actors are, what their names are, you will see Kisna, Katherine, Lakshmi and others. You will simply understand or not understand the hero, worry about him or be angry with him. All emotions will be addressed Kisna, about Vivek you will remember at the end when the credits go, and his name is pronounced aloud.
Especially I want to note the scene of the brothers, the fight and the dialogue Kisny. Here he is the same Kysna, defending his love. Vivek This whole vegetation on his head and face is very good. Courageous, dark and beautiful
Touched and strengthened the impression of the painting epilogue. Lakshmi's story about love Kisna for me was more eloquent than the whole movie. "The proximity of bodies is nothing compared to the kinship of souls" and what a beautiful song Hum Hain Iss Pal, I just fell in love with it.
The whole movie is full of love. Only she is not passionate hot, she is not on display. It is platonic, shown in gestures, looks. It is forbidden and bitter because of it. And the terrain shown in the film, stunning beauty landscapes, just breathtaking. The dance numbers and the song numbers - I watched in one breath, mesmerizing. The film is dynamic, chases, adventure, love. The role of Vivek is difficult, so many shades of emotions had to be played. It was a heartwarming movie.
For me, the moment of choice Kisny was indicative in terms of the differences between Eastern and Western culture, philosophy, thinking, upbringing. Katherine at that time it was difficult to understand the choice Kysna. And if you look from the position Kisny - he pays all the debts in this life, so that in the next nothing will prevent him from being near his beloved. Especially since this is the first film with the participation of Vivek, which leaves behind me a certain ... bitterness, and makes you wonder whether we live right, going through a lot in this life. This is what makes us so different from Indians. We need to fight for our love, I will not give my own to anyone. And they passively submit to duty, you need to marry the one that your parents chose. But in the next, or in 5-10 lives, lovers will be together, karma will not be broken. Very convenient philosophy elevated to the rank of religion. Maybe that’s the way to live, who knows, not us to judge. In India, I really like their respect for parents, husband, older family members. In general, all moral and behavioral principles. It’s a good movie, look who hasn’t seen it yet.
