Father and son! In life, you can fix everything or almost everything, except death. There is a man who sins in life, but he has to repent much later. However, there is always a chance to correct a mistake. That’s what Gianni Amelio made the movie about. Let the film look a little straight, maybe someone and glow in it only one line and count on that to knock out a tear from the viewer, let. I thought this movie was sincere and true, but how else, when the main character Paolo, not an artist at all, but actually suffers from cerebral palsy.
A thousand arrows and stones will fall on the hero of Kim Rossi Stuart Gianni for the fact that he refused his son at the birth of his wife. These people will certainly be right, but branding is always easier than trying to understand, especially when you have not been in this situation. And so when the son and biological father met, they weren't expected to embrace, cry for excitement and emotion. Everything here is much more complex and subtle. It is more difficult because no one has canceled Paolo's disease. He is suffering from paralysis and continues to suffer. Perhaps they would not have met, father and son, if the adoptive father of Paolo Alberto, the doctor would not advise to arrange their meeting.
Gianni was literally confused by what he saw. This is not just a child, this is his child, his son, whom he would be happy to help, but he cannot. He can buy him orange juice or something, he can take him for a walk, but he can't get his health back. And from this hopeless thought, one must think that Gianni’s cats scratch on the soul.
As for Paolo, he lives in his own childish world, but with some kind of adult perspective. Yes, he is forgotten and his mind is weaker than healthy children of his age, but the more empathy you imbue with Paolo. You see how he behaves in everyday life, how he smiles, how he plays the game and catch himself thinking that everything is fine, all your problems are dust, compared to Paolo’s life.
I don't agree that Kim Rossi Stewart played badly. In fact, I think he's one of the best fathers you can imagine. I saw his movie, Freedom Is Good, where he also played his father. Played great. This person cannot be bad by definition. Look into Kim Rossi's eyes and you'll understand without a word. Here's the beautiful Italian.
It’s great that Gianni Amelio brought Charlotte Rampling’s character to the movies. This added a degree to the film and introduced a certain intrigue. Charlotte may not have a very big role, but the emphasis is very accurate. Her daughter is ill for 20 years and Nicole (Charlotte Rampling) is forced to take care of her. Throughout the course of twenty years, it has been so unbearable that her remark about what might have been better if her daughter had died has taken place. Oh, he does. That is the truth and the human essence.
If you want to be kinder, softer, more human, then this movie is for you. It is only about one thing: about self-sacrifice of your life for the sake of your loved ones. It is impossible to throw your cross, and it is impossible in general.
