' Comedy of Errors' it turned out not so much comic as meditative-elegic, but I am more than satisfied with it. Incomprehensibly, the director and the cameraman managed to convey to the viewer the feeling of darkness, fog, obsession in which the main characters reside. 'We wander in some dreams' together with the characters, and not laughing at them from the outside, like smug know-it-alls. The film definitely does not give us a reason for fun over other people’s misadventures, calling to be in the shoes of people thrown out of the usual flow of their lives by someone’s powerful and evil will. Light in form, but deep in essence songs also cause philosophical sadness and understanding, how fragile and unstable our existence, what a comedy of mistakes is, in fact, the life of any of us.
In addition, the noble beauty and exquisite manners of Mikhail Kozakov completely exclude the appropriateness of thoughtless giggling, despite the plot set. To laugh at Kozakov is impossible in principle. His mere presence automatically creates a special intellectual atmosphere, gives gloss and status to everything he participates in. It can only be admired and admired as a work of art. Beauty generally disciplines the beholder. It appeals to eternity, to thoughts about the impermanence of everything earthly - wealth, glory and, in fact, this very beauty that illuminates our being only for a moment. The very life of Kozakov is an illustration of this gradual waste of the gifts of fate, like the life of Kononov - proof of the cruel game of changeable rock. And today’s knowledge of the tragic fate of these two beautiful actors adds additional sadness and thoughtfulness to watching the film.
It’s strange that there are no reviews for such a talented film. Perhaps going beyond the expected comedy, erecting a typical comic plot to the level of a philosophical parable caused the viewer some misunderstanding. And yet, I would highly recommend it to subtle connoisseurs of art: at a minimum, the aesthetic enjoyment of the film guarantees. The beautiful acting of the actors of the old Soviet school and the deliciously recreated atmosphere of the Middle Ages with its music, costumes, meals will please you, regardless of the humorous component, which, of course, is present! Let my philosophical view of this picture will not scare away lovers of a pleasant pastime - you will have it!
