Catafalk races through the forest Nice movie fairy tale, both household and magical. The plot is unusual - the main character travels in search of fear. The action is dynamic, with a lot of all sorts of twists and turns.
Heroes are not quite standard: the fearless son of woodcutter Ondra (Slovak Jan Kroner), and his unintentional companion Gypsy slacker Ferko (Czech Ondrzej Vethi).
The main character Ondra, of course, is not a handsome prince, this is a guy with a long face, small eyes, and a mysterious grin, but “in his thoughtfully affable look, there was a real interest in people, a softly outlined mouth spoke of a compliant character, accessible to the arguments of reason.” The movements showed the confidence of a man who knew his place in life.” In a word, he wins sympathy, not because of his beautiful appearance, but for justice and good temper.
The project is not very budgetary, many scenes are filmed in nature, in forests and on mountains. The film was shot both in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Nature is good, and the life of ordinary villagers is shown historically and tastefully. In the film you can see the old Krugelovsky mill, and the baroque castle of Milotice, in South Moravia.
Costumes of Ondra and Ferko are vital, worn, with a slight touch of 80s fashion; leather bracelets, rough vests, creative headgear, etc. The other heroes: the Evil Sorcerer, the Princess and her court, robbers, a merchant, dressed in the fashion of the mid-18th century, which is not quite usual, this period is rarely shown in fairy tales. However, the outfits of the Princess did not strike originality.
I liked the abundance of mysticism and any evil spirits, which will especially attract children, and adult viewers will not remain in the way, the film is interesting, without stupid-fabulous aesthetics, but humor also found a place, mainly the crooked Ferco is responsible for it.
The image of a princess is predictable - a beautiful blonde in roses (Zuzana Skopalova), but when she is enchanted, it is quite another matter. The enchanted princess is a strange creature in a black cape with a hood, a half-princess, a half-evil sorcerer-freak, speaks also in two voices (plus the film, also a good Russian dubbing), and this miracle-judo moves on a hearse, in a coffin! Just creepy!
P.S. “Don’t be afraid” is an unusual horror movie. High-quality shot, with good actors and beautiful full-scale shooting.
