With a lovely paradise and in a hut, if a lovely... flying shoemaker A beautiful fairy tale about how an unexpected change of status leads to irreversible consequences.
Director Zdenek Troschke didn’t quite strike a balance; the beginning was too playful, but then the story takes on an unexpectedly grim character. In addition, the forces of evil are overrepresented; the fat, green witch and her ugly, spitty daughter are simply disgusting, cause a sense of disgust. And the way they beat and taunted the unfortunate princess-stripped, it can traumatize a sensitive child.
The main characters are Princess Jasnenka (brunette Michaela Kuklova), and cheerful shoemaker Iro (curly Jan Potmeshyl) young, sporty, attractive, but they lacked something, some personality, a highlight. Yasnenka too quickly, without regret, became a shoemaker from the Princess, abandoning the old father of the King. The hasty love of the Princess and the Cobbler, just as quickly flowed into a joint life, but soon they had to prove the strength of their feelings in terrible trials. However, the young viewer probably will not notice psychological conventions, since the action is dynamic and eventful.
The film is perfectly shot, very mobile work of the operator, a lot of visual beauty. The nature of the Czech Republic is simply created for fairy tales, and such wonderful castles do not exist even in France. In the film you can admire the old town of Bows.
The special effects were also successful: Iro’s flights on homemade leather wings are shown very atmospheric, it really creates a sense of flight. There is a psychedelic episode involving the Sun Virgin, who asked Iro to shoe her shoes. In the second part of the film, the audience is waiting for a real battle and a huge fire in the lair of a green witch, and for the end they reserved the appearance of the spectacular Black Prince.
Composer Peter Mandel wrote light, airy, orchestral music permeated with the theme of flight.
The fairy tale “About Princess Jasnenka and the Flying Shoemaker” is an unusual story of a fabulous mesalliance, where there are both stupidly funny and eeriely scary moments. Despite the fact that not all parts of the film are balanced, and the main characters are not charismatic enough, the production turned out to be interesting and beautiful.
