The main Soviet film on "Othello". Movies about the famous Moor made so much that they can get confused! I've counted 44 films, without counting a few shorts! “Othello” is one of the most famous tragedies in the world, several films would be good to see for everyone. In the USSR, literally a couple of films were shot, apparently, it was believed that, after Yutkevich, there is nothing to take on this.
This film caused mixed emotions. At first, mainly annoyed: painted Bondarchuk, Skobtseva - by age, rather, the mother of the main character, increased pathos - this is all, as they say now, pricks. How could a Shakespearean hero call his wife a whore? Is the word so old that it fits here? In Lozinsky’s translation, “Prove, wretched one, that my love is a whore” is more credible (although this definition is later found). Whose translation was used to create the film, I did not understand.
But then somehow you get involved, you want to pity the naive, albeit big, uncle, like a boy. Pushkin said almost everything about Othello: “Othello is not jealous, he is trusting.” Jealousy is when one seeks out and suspects, and when one “helps” like that – yes, gullibility reaches the limit.
This is a good example of what this naiveté can do. By the way, young girls in this tragedy science - do not too annoy the husband: "I will turn his bed into a school..."
Several episodes cling to the soul, for example, a conversation with a maid after the death of Desdemona. That's strong! On the nerves, on the wear.
I will not call a masterpiece, but the film is worthy of attention, shot beautifully, look!
