Gojko Mitic cuts crocodiles and blows up steamers The noble leader of the Seminoles, a fighter for the rights of the oppressed in Florida, our Soviet brother is known not only for this film, but especially for the novel of the same name by Mein Reed. Nevertheless, we are still interested in cinema, in which the main role was played by a “living idol” Gojko Mitic. The film is true in all respects, and especially in race (well, it is clear, because it was made by DEFA).
This time, in addition to the unfortunate indigenous people of America, i.e. the Indians, whom every pale-faced trickster strives to “make”, insult and kick, the racially loyal to the ideals of DEFA, the director shows us frightened and beaten to death Negroes. So the film is even too “correct”, educating “in the square”.
The viewer is stubbornly drawn a boring, but no less topical picture: greedy, cunning, cruel whites insidiously frame the Indians, deceive the leaders and are most shamelessly ready to shoot a black man in front of everyone like an old silky dog. The planters-farmers of Florida are ready by all means, including the most treacherous, to drive the Seminoles out of Florida and clean up their lands. It is like in the song of Shandrikov: “They threaten us with a reservation, but they want to take our lands.”
As in many DEFA films, the horrors of racism are presented to our eyes, and Osceola is the undisputed leader in this field. As you would expect: all the white-faced are villains, whether it be a witch in a saloon, a soldier with a hole in his pocket, a rich owner of sugarcane fields, or an arrogant and bloodthirsty lady from high society. There's only one good white, and there's one that's not called an eagle. He (Mr. Moore) is against the war and is ready to fight, but first of all for his home and his wife (she is an Indian herself); well, he fights racism with evolutionary-technical-revolutionary methods. And here's Mitic, indeed, an eagle. Yeah, yeah. And in this film, he is especially powerful: saving the Negroes, dives into the river and cuts the crocodiles with only a knife (Crocodile Dundee nervously smokes in the side); and although he arranges a truly noble fight only at the end of the tape, but he distinguished himself so well - he swung the ship with gunpowder.
In general, the plots of Indian films with Mitic are of two types: straight as a stick and with a twisted script. So in this picture there is an interesting plot, characteristic characters and, in principle, quite a drive action. And the movie is quite musical, and there are some good songs in German, which is performed by one of the actresses of the tape.
