An unforgettable film for all time! Without exaggeration, it turned out to be a luxurious performance with the participation of not just stars of world magnitude, but people who created a small two-hour masterpiece! Sitting down to watch the picture and at the opening credits, seeing that the director of the film is Anthony Esquith, I strained my memory and pulled out the following information into the light of God: first, the name seemed familiar to me, and then spinning the flywheel of my memo, I was pleasantly surprised to remember that one movie under the guidance of this director I saw. And the movie is quite a good "Millionaires" with the participation of Sophia Loren and Peter Sellers. Therefore, I had the right to expect that this film will be at least no worse, given the composition of the performers. The result exceeded all imaginable expectations! Cinema in all articles deserves an Oscar, and the effect of exposure to multiple viewing, because this is a real spectacle for all connoisseurs of cinema!
The airport is the place where all the action of the picture is concentrated. And it is no secret for us that getting into conditions of a large crowd, when the flight is postponed according to weather conditions, people show their best and worst qualities more vividly than in home conditions or gray working days. Well, when these very people are also very important people, that is, they occupy a certain position in society and have an impressive status, then wait for serious psychological actions with no less powerful consequences. As a rule, there are no prisoners in this situation. What the heroes of this wonderful picture proved.
Just look at this brutal ensemble. Orson Welles, who plays an eminent director with impressive dimensions, does not recognize him. But he is still a swindler: he tries to quickly escape from the country in order not to pay huge taxes. And, as you know, God marks the shear: the flight is postponed and it is on the verge of collapse. And what would he do if he had a brilliant Jewish accountant?
Next on our list is Marc Chamsel (Louis Jourdan), a gigolo and ladies' man. How he managed to get to the heart of Frans Enros (Elizabeth Taylor) remains a mystery. The film will certainly explain this phenomenon. By the way, this is my third film with the participation of Louis Jourdan, and the first two, The Paradine Affair and The Sultans, left a very pleasant impression on his performance. Stylish and charming, intelligent and sophisticated, insidious and helpless. In general, this character has many qualities that can wake up the heart of a married lady, the heroine Elizabeth Taylor.
It would be an impermissible omission not to mention Rod Taylor, in the film by Mr. Mangrum, the owner of a small company who is also V.I.P. But from wealth to complete fiasco, a step is small, not even a step, but a step. And is Maggie Smith bad, as a secretary, Miss Mead, the aforementioned Mr. Mangrum? This is the kind of woman you should take as a wife to rid yourself of a completely unnecessary headache.
This feast is crowned by Mr. Paul Endros (Richard Barton), who once again demonstrates all the subtleties of his talent: from confidence and tranquility, for he is also V.I.P, to anger and confusion, smoothly turning into a state of inconstancy!
I do not ask, I do not demand, but I sincerely advise you to watch this movie, because you will get a lot of pleasant minutes if you spend time surrounded by these pillars of world cinema. Tempest and delight, stormy delight, and somewhere and rethinking. You cannot count all the epithets to express what you have seen in words!
