The most important thing to expect from the film is some novelty. absolute unrealistic plot and actions of the characters, continuous action and humor, good actors, beautiful picture and continuous triumph of justice. It's all available. If you’re expecting something different, the movie won’t come out, and I think it’s quite exciting, which is what you need. It looks like a concert. Great. This is despite the film’s age of 18! Yeah, it looks like Indiana Jones, and certainly not worse.
The main character Dirk Pitt, a former military sailor, since childhood, is looking for information about the Confederate ship that disappeared during the Civil War in the United States & #39; Texas & #39; And finds them in Africa. In parallel, a line is developing with the epidemic in Mali, which is being investigated by a doctor Eva Rojas.
I read a couple of Clive Kessler novels from the Dirk Pitt series. Good reading in the traditions of the genre: treasures, historical riddles, villains with megalomania, numerous adventures in exotic scenery, brave heroes and beautiful women. Ideal material for a Hollywood blockbuster, which in 2005 was shot with a budget of $ 130 million. It was calculated on the franchise, but the tape failed at the box office.
Matthew McConaughey very successfully embodied the role of Dirk Pitt. And his partner, played by Steve Zahn, who constantly gives out funny phrases, is quite good. Eva Rojas, played by Penelope Cruz, is somewhat paler, but quite level. Glavgad Lamber Wilson is very impossible, although he was not allowed to turn in full force on the screen. But the African dictator turned out to be very textured.
The film is a bit long, especially in the beginning. But, in my opinion, the head surpasses the same ' Treasure of the Nation' with which he came almost simultaneously. Frankly boring, albeit more successful at the box office, the film with Nicholas Cage I did not like, unlike this tape, a good example of high-quality adventure cinema. And the scene of the boat race with the crown phrase: 'Leave in Panamanian' and it is my favorite and best in the film.

Once I never had a great desire to study history, but after watching some films about the search for treasures and secrets of the past sharply sharpens the deep-hidden thirst for adventure and knowledge. This film is just a sample of such a fire, generating a violent flame of interest, but maybe there is something else in it?
Here, the theme of treasure search is one of the most important, although in parallel with it there is a line of struggle for our planet, for maintaining its purity and a call to pay attention to its pollution. These two massive ideas are constantly competing to get to the foreground, and this creates a dynamic picture, as well as diluting moments that seem drawn out. In some places, however, the stamping of moments is striking, and too often the use of the “luck” of the characters, which from a certain place begins to annoy. Despite this richness of events and tricks that the main characters use, help to overcome the feeling of deception.
A separate story is the actors. Well, the parade is run by Matthew McConaughey, who portrays a really cool and passionate treasure hunter with an outstanding appearance and sharp wit. Helps him Steve Zahn, which turned out to be an incredibly suitable addition for Dirk: his prickly jokes, always disheveled hair and constant readiness to come to the rescue make him a best friend not only in words, but also in deeds. William H. Macy, who played the captain did not often appear on the screen, but each time attracted attention and made the viewer cheer for him and wonder at his loyalty to two daredevils. Lambert Wilson showed us a rich man who got entangled in a web of his own plans, and tried to prove that it is better to do everything right, not cunning. And in the end, I would like to remember two actors whose performances I remember, but not in a good light. Penelope Cruz, although not very bad played her role, but had a terrible nightmarish accent, cutting her ear at every line. Lenny James, who appeared in the image of the general, turned out to be a walking stereotype and an open book, thanks to which his every action could be easily predicted.
I really liked the scenery and the selected locations. Various chips used by the heroes, pleased and remembered for a long time. The musical theme is embedded in the memory and will certainly remind of the good moments of the film.
As a result, returning to the phrase at the top, I want to say that I liked the picture, although it “went away in Panamanian”, in other words – noisy. It is still not clear why, it entered the top ten most failed films in history, because there are many films and worse. It is likely that it was the focus on pollution, and especially pollution in Africa, that played a role here, but I cannot judge it completely. Personally, I celebrate it as an above-average adventure comedy and I can gladly review, if not the entire film, a few moments for sure.

An uncomplicated plot with a simply stunning cast: almost every actor you will recognize, even the most minor roles took a familiar face. Matthew McConaughey is especially cool with his unreal sense of humor. And dynamically, ridiculously, and even crammed the eternal problems of fighting the powerful in the name of saving ordinary people.
It’s an old movie, but it’s made in such a way that it can be re-watched a hundred times. And every time there will be a great mood after watching.
"Fool's Gold" - a similar film turned out to be cooler than "Sahara" can be due to the fact that the sparkling Kate Hudson plays there, and here the clamped Penelope Cruz ... .
It’s a great adventure film, not inferior to Indiana Jones. At all. Nothing. Absolutely level. Why is it considered a failure and everything in it is bad? I don't know, I should probably ask the people who released this movie in April. Work on 100% summer, extraordinary beauty shots, very beautiful landscapes of Africa. At the beginning there is a little detective story. McConaughey and Steve Zahn worked well together, it was a lot of fun. It is a pity that the film did not pay off and we did not get the rest of the stories about the adventures of Dirk Pitt.
Perhaps the only drawback is that by the end, you get a little entangled in the motives of the main villain, and a little outweigh the abundance of scenes with chases, fights and other stunt activities. But the movie ends and everyone is fine.
Once again, if you are looking for an easy, adventure film, with some amount of detective story, very similar to Indiana Jones, then here you go.

The immortal classic Spielberg-Lucas-Ford trilogy, which tells about the adventures of the outstanding archaeologist Indiana Jones, does not give peace of mind to the filmmaker of the whole world. The concept of a fearless researcher and an intelligent teacher has been tested many times, as shown by such tapes as “Library” and “Treasures of the Nation”, which, although they tried to approach Indiana, but failed to gain cult status. And in 2005, when it has been a long 16 years since the release of “Indiana Jones in search of the Holy Grail”, and the launch of a new part remained in question, Paramount Studio decided to return to the screens a light adventure-archaeological action movie designed to give viewers around the world an alternative to the beloved hero. The basis was taken by the novels of the writer Clive Kassler about the former military Dirk Pitt, who after dismissal took up archaeology. Since the popularity of the novels was huge, the producers considered that a considerable budget of $ 130 million will pay off without problems, especially since the main role was played by the favorite of women Matthew McConaughey, and his partner was the Spanish icon , which arouses interest among the male audience. Also in the picture invited the on-duty comedian Steve Zahn and good-natured William H. Macy, which are designed to distract the viewer from the drama of what is happening and show that we have a real entertainment. However, the result of the picture, called "Sahara", turned out to be very, very pale, and so much so that the picture failed miserably at the box office and all hopes for a durable franchise instantly disappeared.
The plot of the film begins in the best traditions of adventure cinema: we are transferred to a century and a half ago in the United States, where the civil war is raging. Floating battleship Confederate "Texas" is trying to leave the battlefield, as it is on the edge crammed with gold coins and other jewelry that can greatly affect the balance of power. And the ship managed to escape, but it disappears without a trace. That is the mysterious history of “Texas” and will be the main goal of the life of Dirk Pitt (McConaughey), whose trace he finds in one of the poorest countries in Africa. There we also get acquainted with the scientist Eva Rojas (Cruz), who is engaged in the study of the most dangerous fever that takes the lives of the poorest inhabitants of the country. It is not difficult to guess that the paths of Pitt and Rojas will cross and they will have to work together. And help them in this will be old El (Zan), Pitt’s faithful companion and his right hand.
All the trailers, all the reports from the filming and other advertising promised that “Sahara” was supposed to be a real picture of the adventures of archaeologists with twisted intrigue and exciting detective. However, the authors simply slid down to an ordinary stupid and not too dynamic action movie, which completely covered the main storyline. I understand that the film in some ways became an expensive agitation in defense of oppressed African peoples and raised questions about environmental pollution, but in this case it was not necessary to deceive the viewer and reveal the whole truth about the plot. As you can see from the box office, the audience was very disappointed in the project, as we were not shown either an interesting investigation of the disappearance of the ship or an exciting action movie. But the latter is a real crime, since “Sahara” even in its chosen style of storytelling can not impress. There are only a couple of scenes worthy of attention - a chase on a boat, surfing on an ancient plane and escaping from a combat helicopter. Everything else is inexpressible fights and shootouts, as well as boring dialogue, sometimes interrupted by simple humor from Steve Zahn. And most disappointing in the picture is the search for an armadillo. It seems that due to environmental issues and tough dictators, the filmmakers forgot about the main thing. So the search for treasure turned into a terrifyingly stupid incident, crumpled into one random ball, which will upset all connoisseurs of Indiana Jones and his unforgettable trials.
Now I want to focus on the main characters. From McConaughey absolutely does not stand out from the heroes of the militants of past years. This is another toned-up handsome man who, even with a huge stretch, does not look like a lover of the search for antiquity. So he remained a former soldier with all his habits and habits. The only thing that sets him apart is Al's presence from Steve Zahn. This character is completely comedic, and his intelligence seems to be deliberately underestimated so much that in some places he seems mentally disabled. But at the same time, this is the most interesting hero of the film, who somehow revived a terribly boring action with a template protagonist. Penelope Cruz in “Sugar” is not remembered at all. No strong emotions, no worries and efforts. For her, this film was a vacation that was more than well paid. William H. Macy received very little screen time in the film and did not stand out except for the scene with the boat. It is a pity that this undoubtedly talented actor turned out to be just a wedding general here, radically not influencing anything.
In the end, I want to say that for me personally, Sahara was the main disappointment of 2005. This film did not show anything special, and the replacement of archaeology with an action movie, of course, did not bring artistic benefits. The rating is not satisfactory.
Not all commercial projects, sometimes very good, receive audience recognition and high box office. Even considering that this film was originally planned as a standalone movie without sequels, it is a pity that it became a disappointment for the distribution studio.
Two friends travel across Africa in search of lost American gold. Against the backdrop of the escalating civil war in the state of Mali, they meet a beautiful doctor who is desperately looking for a hotbed of an unknown infection. I think it is very important for the final result of the decision to introduce a line on the tragic fate of the African peoples. Pollution and the fight against the source of infection have diluted traditional adventure motifs with a share of drama - this nicely distinguishes the film from colleagues in the shop, if the word is pleasant here appropriate. The film has a lot of action with a lot of dialogue. There are chases on boats and firefights in the desert, fights and active search for antiquities. Regarding the topic of archaeology, there is no childish admiration and excitement, since our worldview is far from the treasures of the Civil War in the United States. However, the fact that the main characters are passionate about searching for an armored ship in the middle of Africa cannot but cause interest. By the way, not all the events of the film occur among lifeless deserts - the geography of filming turned out to be quite diverse. Not the best way to get acquainted with the culture and political situation in African countries, but all this is enough for entertaining movies. Think about it anyway. How not to mention some absolutely stunning scenes, such as a tour of an energy station in the desert, a ride on wheels with a sailboat. They are really memorable, and it costs a lot. Of course, the film has its weaknesses. First of all, these are the main characters themselves. Two friends, former co-workers, have become virtually a single threat to the local dictator’s army. Smoothing such a bright orientation to the characters comic, with which these images are presented. This is not a comedy in the usual sense of the word, but thanks to Matthew McConaughey and Stephen Zahn, the mood for two hours of watching remains good. Not enough for a long-term effect and, perhaps, friends have nothing to tell. I mean, there's a lot of humor here, and it's mostly good, but it's not good enough to rip your stomach. I consider it a good acquisition to bring Penelope Cruz as the main female character. Her Latin appearance gives what is happening even more color, besides a woman of her type can really be mistaken for a WHO employee. I was pleased with the game of Lambert Wilson, whom many remember from the movie “The Matrix: Reboot” as one of the villains.
Of course, the film does not reach the level of Indiana Jones, but we have a great adventure story, the pleasant impressions of which aroused my interest in getting acquainted with the original book.
