Today I will tell you about the full-length film Scooby-Doo! It was shot in 2002, but somehow passed by me, so I catch up.
A terrible thing has happened - The Secret Corporation has broken up! And two years after this event, the guys are single-handedly called to Spring Break Island to investigate the mysterious events taking place there. But for this, the heroes need to unite again, because only together they can solve this case!
In order not to waste your time, I will walk immediately on the pros and cons of this film.
Pros:
-= Favorite heroes. As a fan, it was a pleasure to see all my favorite characters on the screen. The filmmakers left their characters unchanged - as in the cartoon - it is good that they decided not to invent a bicycle, but to dwell on what the viewer is used to.
- Actors. They are very similar to their heroes. The one who chose the cast, a low bow. There is, of course, Matthew Lillard, who became like poured into the role of Shaggy. I do not know a more suitable actor, both externally and in facial expressions and behavior. He looks very harmonious in this role.
- Graphics. I liked the drawing. Scooby-Doo looks quite realistic and while watching the film I did not have the feeling that this is false. But there is something worth working on - about it in the minuses.
- Music. What could be better than the title “Scooby Doo, Where Are You” that every child has heard?
- The idea that the characters first quarreled, and then to solve the mystery, must reconcile – fresh. Therefore, the movie looks unobtrusive and interesting.
Cons:
- Drawing ghosts. That’s exactly what is the main and in fact the only disadvantage of the film. They don’t look realistic, they look like costumes, and if this is allowed in the cartoon, then it’s not in the movie! It’s a 2002 movie, but it still spoils the viewing experience. It does not allow you to fully immerse yourself in what is happening.
This is my personal opinion, there may be more disadvantages for you. This movie is worth watching at least once. And then you will form your opinion.
“When you’re scared to eat pizza, when you’re scared to eat more pizza.” ?
In 1969, the company Hanna-Barbera, specializing in animation, began its triumphant journey series "Scooby-Doo, where are you!". The brainchild of the duo of writers John Ruby and Ken Spears almost instantly turned into a super popular spectacle, which was watched by American audiences from small to large. In teenage circles even created a cult of fans of the animated series. With the advent of a new era of cinema and animation, it is no wonder that there were also full-length cartoons, and filming was only a matter of time.
And so for fans of the corporation “Secret” came the long-awaited 2002th year, when the summer came out full-length film adaptation of “Scooby-Doo”. It is not hard to predict that the hype around the film was crazy and the box office was emptied of tickets for the premiere. And here we have to pay tribute to the producers of the film company Warner Bros. Pictures, who bet not only on fans of cartoons, but also on the acting ensemble, inviting Freddie Prince Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar to star. Exactly in the year of the release of “Scooby-Doo” this couple officially signed, and before that they became idols of young people: Prince Jr. due to the films “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “This Is All Her”, and his wife thanks to the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the film “Cruel Games”. So the producers deliberately rubbed their hands in anticipation of a big jackpot, which in reality happened: invested in the creation of 119 million dollars (of which 35 were spent only on advertising) more than doubled.
But if the aspirations of the producers were crowned with the expected financial replenishment of financial well-being, then the viewer did not get the expected result. And in this case, subjectively, I blame the appointed director, Raju Gosnell. This gentleman has proven himself as an editor, working on such films as “Home Alone” and “Mrs. Doubtfire”, “Pretty Woman” and “Miracle on 34th Street”, but when he retrained as a director, it became clear that it was not his. The “House Alone” triquel, the comedy “Unkissed”, and by and large “Big Mommy’s House” clearly demonstrated how weak Gosnell is as a director. And Scooby-Doo only confirmed this view.
Firstly, the visual effects turned out to be disgusting quality, and in Scooby-Doo they were supposed to amaze the imagination, even if the wonderful German Great Dane was not supposed to be distinguishable from the real one, but the overlay of computer graphics was done out of hand. Watching this bullying was impossible, except that the beginning of the film somehow contributes to a pleasant viewing, but then the remaining 90% of the picture is a complete horror. Gosnell could not add even small crumbs of humor, which exudes himself Scooby-Doo and his friend Shaggy: the film does not even touch the tips of the lips for a smile. But even worse was the scenario: it was decided that the investigation of mysterious events, led by the corporation "Secret", will be accompanied by real mystical elements. But as already mentioned, the special effects were bad, so all the painted mysticism in the form of a type of terrible creatures causes at best bewilderment.
Now, as far as the cast is concerned. And again, only the producers of the film, who invited the popular idols of teenagers, and Freddie Prince Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar themselves received three and three quarters of a million dollars for two. But in fact, the casting was a failure: Prince Jr. looked like an idiot with a blond hair, and it was impossible to understand whether he was constantly poorly seated wig, or the intern did his hair. Greetings to make-up artists and make-up artists! Sarah Michelle Gellar looked good only in rare episodes, and the rest of the time - it's a soulless character, located as furniture. By the way, like the heroine of Linda Cardellini, completely unsuitable for the role of smart Velma. Only Matthew Lillard hasn’t leaked his character Shaggy, but Lillard isn’t the kind of actor who can pull a movie alone. And the participation of the famous crooked comedian Rowan Atkinson and Isla Fisher almost did not affect the essence of the film, they are here for the tick.
In general, "Scooby-Doo" disappointed me personally on many articles and this is in my opinion "merit". Raja Gosnell.
Even before we were happy with Cat, Warner Bros. released something similar. In addition, with the heroes of the wonderful animated series of the 1960s. But forget about nostalgia and think.
Especially sad for the fans of the original “Scooby-Doo”, who, having decided that there will be something adequate for the series, spend time on this thrash.
You think Scooby-Doo is a funny cowardly dog, a lover of Scooby cookies? No, it's an annoying computer muzzle that doesn't make you laugh, it makes you angry. So is Shaggy (who the hell is Shaggy?). If the original character was a fool, get ready to see the real imbecile, and the scene where he fools around with Scooby almost shocked me.
Do you think Velma and Daphne are charming heroines worthy of respect? Nope! Velma, and so on, and Daphne has become a "stupid blonde" stereotype. These were for some time the smart characters of the children's animated series!
Do you think Fred is a wise and kind leader of The Mystery who respects all its members? Not again! This is a selfish, nasty blonde, terribly annoying to the viewer.
And the worst part is being the chief groom-- Scrappy-Doo! Shit! I can’t accept this hero now, because this is a real muddying!
It's between friends! Remember how our heroes respect each other? Here, Fred constantly teases Daphne about the fact that she is often taken prisoner. Here, quite easily, at the very beginning of the movie, the Mystery Corporation disbanded. And all because there is no friendship, respect, affection.
The jokes are stupid. I have not laughed before.
You might be wondering, why am I bothering with the movie? There's only one red review! Would it be nice if the heroes of your childhood were shown as idiots?
You can’t put zero, and one more ball for the return, albeit unsuccessful, of your favorite characters. Take a look at the original.
I love the Scooby-Doo cartoon! So when I found out that there is a film adaptation, I was very happy. I was so disappointed after watching.
I watched the 2002 film adaptation. I can't say the movie is good. Its only plus is that fans of the cartoon were able to see their favorite characters in the world of cinema.
In many ways, the film annoyed me. I wanted to change the channel, pause, rewind, but not watch. But I got my strength and I watched.
The plot of the film is that after the Secret Corporation broke up due to the arising contradictions of Scooby-Doo and his clever friends, who solved more than one crime, Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma, are single-handedly summoned to Sinister Island to begin an investigation of a series of paranormal phenomena occurring in Spring Break.
Naturally, they reconcile, their team reunites, and they still find the reason for what is happening on the island. To be honest, the ending of the film made me very upset. I wanted to ask, "What the hell?" I know I shouldn’t have expected anything big from the movie. But this finale... I don’t know who would like it.
The acting didn't shake either. Freddie Prince Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini seem to have coped with the roles, but these are not the best roles! Honestly, I can’t imagine anyone else in their place.
The film shows good music. And the special effects are not so bad, the film is aimed at watching and resting. I guess I just didn't pick the best time to watch.
If I had a different ending, I might have liked the movie. And so... It's for once, I don't want to revisit it.
The only thing I'm sure of is that the 2002 film adaptation is the best compared to the others.
Heroes from the cartoon come to life in a big movie.
Scooby-Doo is an adventure detective family comedy based on an animated series in 2002. The film turned out to be funny and looks easy, and it is aimed at a children's audience, but adults can also like this comedy, because it was shot qualitatively and interesting, and from the first to the last frame everything is saturated with a pleasant children's and kind atmosphere, which was in the cartoon, and the creators managed to brightly and peculiarly transfer it to the big movie. The film is full of funny, comic situations and all the same characters from the cartoon, which are talented and comically played by American actors.
We see all the characters from the cartoon, and in this film they again have to solve a new mystery and uncover new masks and save the world from monsters, and again they are waiting for incredible adventures and the disclosure of a new terrible secret, and find out who is behind all this chaos.
The whole atmosphere and history is based on actors who play funny roles and ridiculous situations. Freddie Prince Jr. is an interesting actor and a charming man, and in this comedy I was pleased to see him, and he played brightly and believably, and the hero Fred from him succeeded in fame. Sarah Michelle Gellar is one of my favorite actresses in the world of cinema, and I love movies with her, so I couldn’t help but watch this funny comedy. Daphne came out of it what you need, and from the whole cast I liked her the most. I never really liked Matthew Lillard, but in this comedy he played well and Shaggy came out good. Previously, an unknown actress Linda Cardellini was perfect for the role of Velma and played great, and I was impressed by this actress, and well remembered in this film. These four actors are so well used in their animated roles that other actors in their place I can not imagine.
Those who liked this series as a child and new generations should love this film, because it is funny and kind and gives a lot of laughter and positive emotions. "Scooby-Doo" is a big budget American light comedy that turned out to be witty and funny, and I believe it deserves positive appreciation and attention from viewers. Watch “Scooby Doo”, and this film will take you to the carefree and magical world of childhood, in which monsters live, and the team of “Mystery” reveals all the secrets and tears off all the villains masks.
8 out of 10
Scooby-Doo is a restless and clumsy dog that helps smart Velma, smart Fred, beautiful Daphne and stupid Shaggy fight crime. But after the next, as always with the brilliance of the solved case, a split occurs in the group, and now former friends diverge in different directions so as not to share fame with colleagues who do not value their talents. They will meet again two years later, when everyone will receive a letter asking for help from the owner of the Scary Island, Mr. Mondavarius, convinced that monsters appeared in his possessions.
I don't think there's anyone who hasn't heard of Scooby-Doo and the whole animated series about him. And so Raja Gosnell decided to film one of the most popular cartoons of our century. In many horror and fantasy films, you can hear various references to a certain Scooby-Doo and his team and not know who it is simply indecent.
I think the name of this charming funny dog has become a household name and personifies childish spontaneity, naivety, talent to get into various alterations and with honor to get out of them, stubbornness and perseverance to achieve the goal-solving the mystery. Neither Scooby nor his team can be called notorious daredevils. But that's what's closest to us. They are not superheroes with superpowers. Their only strength is friendship. They are ordinary people, only more determined and brave than most of us, who try to help everyone they can, fight evil and dream of saving the world. It sounds a bit pathetic, but in this interpretation it is all very exciting.
A wonderful mystical comedy.
