Personally, I came across the film by accident, but I was interested in David Tennant in the lead role. I watched the film with subtitles, there is no Russian voiceover. I had to look for the movie!
The beginning of the film shows Alan Hamilton (David Tennant), who heads a construction firm, his wife Trisha (Sarah Parish), who works as a beautician and their two sons.
There is an accident with Alan. As a result, he falls into a deep coma, his wife in hope and confusion asks him: ' Why didn't this happen to others?'
Yes, that’s what we all think when failure hits us.
Is he coming back soon or is he not? Alan’s behavior puts his entire family to the test, and especially his passionately loving, 16-year-old wife. He has changed and the most offensive thing is that Alan is not trying to become the same as before.
The plot of this tape dispels all the romantic impression after watching a film with a similar situation and tells what would have happened to a person after such an accident.
The acting of the main characters will not leave you indifferent and you will not notice how the world, without embellishment, will open before you. David Tennant showed the versatility of one person, from a successful leader to an unbalanced head of the family.
It's not a white or black story. This is the grayness of everyday life.
A piercing drama... a deep emotional shock... a crying soul... sadness on a high note... hope for... All this is about the British film ' Return' which, despite the super laconic synopsis, turned out to be so deep that it evokes an extensive list of feelings and touches the most subtle soul strings. Especially if the situation is painfully familiar, but unlike the characters of the picture, it is irreversible forever.
And of course I will not be original – the main merit of this great David Tennant and equally beautiful Sarah Parish, each of whom is so powerful professionally and personally that not always capable of duet play – because it is very difficult for the director to find a worthy partner. But here everything came together and even merged. But at the same time you are contemplating not an exciting acting at the limit of competition, but a deep human drama, which, despite the sobriety & #39; dictated by time, makes you empathize to a lump in your throat, to an involuntary tear.
What is also very important - there are no primitive melodramatic techniques to which stupid directors usually resort, and in this sense, special gratitude to Andy de Emmoni, who managed to remain at the level of good drama. At the same time, it is a stark reminder of the brevity of being, even on the scale of every moment, the impossibility of counting moments in advance and, ultimately, of educating the senses in which circumstances life would not abandon us. And, corny, but - about the boundless power of love.
This movie should be watched by everyone.
Like many girls, I fell in love with David Tennant as the Doctor and started watching his filmography. Drama is one of my favorite genres, and of course I couldn’t ignore it.
To be honest, it is difficult to touch me, and it is even more difficult to break into tears. But he did. I was crying all night.
Everything here is shown very simply and vitally. It is a pity that I could not find the "Return" in good quality and in Russian, I think the impression would be even brighter.
The film immersed itself and made you feel everything that the characters felt at that moment. With his game, Tennant brought the character of Sarah Parish to life, thanks to Alan, we saw Trish “in all its glory.” How painful it is to see a man you loved madly, with whom you were connected and inseparable become a stranger. It's very, very scary. And if it's just because you're out of love or cheated on, you can pack up and leave. But not in this situation. You cannot abandon a helpless sick person, and to look at him every day, seeing who he once was and who he will never be again - unbearable.
Unless you want to help yourself, no one can.
The film definitely deserves attention. Actors are on top. They merge with their characters, they make you believe.
Special attention and appreciation deserves the soundtrack. Delicious. After watching the film, the song plays inside for a long time.

I didn’t come across this film by chance – I’m purposefully watching David Tennant’s filmography. He had many different roles, completely opposite heroes, cheerful, serious, sad, evil, cruel. But this character is special, and the film took a special place in my heart.
First of all, its realism is striking. No mean tricks for the mass consumer. Amnesia here is not just memory loss, as is commonly described, without realizing how thin the human brain is. Nope. This is when a person, according to completely incomprehensible laws, can perfectly remember, for example, how to drive a car, but at the same time completely forget how to use a toothbrush. And it's scary. The worst thing is that this can happen to anyone.
To be honest, I could not watch it in one breath – 4 times, in the most difficult moments, I paused and went to the balcony to breathe cool air, because it was too much. Too naked. Too tense. Too honest.
Alan didn't go crazy, even though it looked like that. He's like a little kid who has to learn to walk, eat, talk. And who doesn't realize at first that there's something wrong with him.
Tricia has to go a long way from hoping that the Alan she loved will come back to her again, through despair that nothing will happen, and to accepting a new life. And Alan learns all over again, to regain at least part of himself, his feelings, emotions and memories.
The acting game, in my opinion, is very powerful. David Tennant and Sarah Parish had an extremely organic and vibrant duet. Both coped with their roles, although of course David's role is much more complex and multifaceted. These are outbursts of anger, and moments that cause extreme pity for his hero. It's written names on pillows, tears from listening to a song. All those moments that make Alan so unusual, strange... But not crazy, no. Just not like everyone else. And it's not as bad as it looks. Yes, at first there is a lot of fear in him, but as he begins to learn, to change, to cope with himself, his anger, we see a completely different person, like a phoenix, reborn from the ashes. Yeah, he's not what Trisha loved him anymore. Who says you can’t love him again?
Strong film, heavy and light at the same time, everything in it is naturalistic and without jewelry. Of course, such films are needed. Movies like this leave a mark. Such films give you the strength to cope with your own problems.
When I came across this movie, I didn’t expect anything special. The film is not very well known in wide circles, half an hour of timekeeping. In addition, this topic has already been raised in cinema, so you kind of know what to expect.
And here comes the first shot.
I will not describe the pros and cons of this film (the latter are hardly present). In this review, there will be only emotions after viewing.
There were a lot of emotions.
This is a very difficult movie. He is truthful, which is even more fulfilling. After all, as a rule, when we imagine a patient with amnesia, the image of a person without memory simply appears in the head. We don't usually realize that the effects of brain damage are much worse.
We are our memories, our habits. The very thing that makes us individuals. And to see a man who has lost it, to see his family, is all one great pain.
The film does not let go from the first frame, you are completely immersed in this story, which can happen anywhere and with anyone in real life, exactly as it was shown.
"Return" is definitely worth the attention. Even if you risk flooding your neighbors. Personally, I couldn't hold back my tears, and I still sort of pick my words. Not even sleep helps. The precipitation is very strong.
What is behind the word “love”? Incredible patience, responsibility and constant action. Is it possible to predict in advance the seriousness of the words that people say when they get married - "In sorrow and joy, in sickness and in health"? Do we have the strength and courage to keep that promise? Is it worth judging those who could not overcome the obstacles that life has built before them?
We are all quite selfish and build our lives, trying to spend our time meaningfully, avoiding unnecessary problems and seeking more pleasure. To change your life for the sake of another person, you need to have a huge store of love.
When should we forgive, endure, and continue to love? And it seems that there is no better way than “to quit everything”. Of course, everyone decides for themselves. It probably makes sense when the other person needs your love and is not willing to absorb it, but to put in a lot of effort to be worthy of that love and to love in return. It's incredibly difficult, so people often choose a different way out. And no one should be blamed for this, because life is a chain of choices, everyone builds his own. You will never be able to predict in advance whether you will be brave enough and strong enough when life puts you in front of your difficult choices.
“Return” is one of those movies, during which you curse the talent of actors. The game is too good and it hurts almost physically to watch what is happening on the screen. Fortunately, a double-edged sword - the joy of the fact that the heroes still coped with it, is worth the nerves spent.
Probably, this effect of involvement is achieved due to the fact that the on-screen relationship between Sarah Parish and David Tennant has some background in the face of “Blackpool”. Here they play lovers again, and this time they look much more convincing, piercing and closer. Closer to each other and therefore to the viewer.
Lost family happiness is replaced by a difficult period of rehabilitation. Looking at what can happen to a person after an injury is scary. However, fortunately, this is not at all because the atmosphere is artificially bent or the colors are thickened to give pathos tragicality. There is a tragedy, but it is real, it is not nurtured from sentimental melodies and speeches spreading by status on social networks. Tragedy, struggle and long-awaited return.
The happy and friendly Hamilton family has fallen on hard times that could ruin it. Alan Hamilton, the father of the family, gets hit by a car and falls into a coma. When he wakes up, he doesn’t have a short-term memory – he doesn’t remember how to dress or cook, and he forgets what he said a minute ago. But most importantly, Alan can not remember his wife Trish and his two sons.
I've never seen drama like this before. Of course, I’ve seen people complain about serious illnesses and injuries. And their relatives always support them - these are happy movies. But in the drama of Return, we see the opposite side of this life - when relatives just drop their hands, when they can not help loved ones, when they are tired. In addition, the disease is almost incurable. She is testing the family for strength, this test is incredibly difficult and, perhaps, everyone will be able to pass it.
Incredibly strong acting - David Tennant and Sarah Parish play together again and they play very emotionally. David was able to convey in an hour and a half all the changeability of his character: here he is happy, and in a minute he loses his temper, destroys everything in his path, and in a minute he cries like a small child. Sarah showed his wife Trish, who is struggling to save the marriage, not to let the family fall apart, but also how tired she is after all this. It can be understood - problems at work, children protest, and the husband turned into another child. She can't do it alone. Harry Treadaway, who played the eldest son Dean, who showed how his hero has changed: first he wants freedom and leaves the family forever, and in the end he understands that the father needs and must help him.
Very strong, emotional, soulful, tragic and life film. It's a film about struggle, hope and a comeback that's bound to happen. After all, the family can never be left and forgotten, it must be preserved, because the family is the most valuable thing that a person has.
