The famous play by American playwright Harry Siegel “Heaven Can Wait” became the basis not only for three comedy films, but also became the starting point for many films of this category, where the hero, mistakenly found himself in the afterlife, suddenly gets a second chance in earthly life. The first adaptation of this play was the fantasy comedy by Alexander Hall "Here comes Mr. Jordan."
Synopsis Professional boxer Joe Pendleton accidentally crashes on his personal plane. As it turns out, his death turns out to be a technical mistake by a rookie angel 7013, who confused him with another person. Angel boss Mr. Jordan offers Joe a second life in the body of American millionaire Bruce Farnsworth, who is trying to kill Farnsworth's wife and her lover. Returning to Earth, Joe is drawn into a series of unexpected and amusing incidents.
Game of actors In general, the actors performed their roles well, but I would focus on male roles. First of all, I would like to mention Robert Montgomery as Joe Pendleton, a cheerful and cheerful boxer who, even after death, is eager to fight everywhere and in everything. Also impressed was Claude Raines’ performance as “Mr. Jordan,” a big boss and (let’s be honest) HIMself, who, despite the circumstances Joe faced, helped him with everything because he managed to read his soul. Finally, James Gleason plays Max Corky, Joe’s manager, who tries to help the hero even after his death, thereby constantly putting himself in an awkward position.
Directorship Director Alexander Hall directed a classic eccentric comedy in which the characters are drawn into absurd, unrealistic situations that put them in an awkward position in front of others. In the case of this film, the main character John Pendleton is in a similar situation, moving “by the will of God” from one body to another, and his manager Max Corky, forced to interfere in heavenly affairs, making others think that he is some kind of crazy. On the one hand, what is happening on the screen looks fun and fervent, on the other hand, such style and presentation are already morally outdated and the modern viewer can only cause a nostalgic smile.
Scenario In terms of the plot, on the one hand, the film is distinguished by the original idea, the presence of a storyline, a certain hidden meaning, on the other hand, due to the fact that by today's standards such films were shot a whole lot, and in the genre they have the form of romantic comedies to mystical horrors, now the film is not perceived with previous enthusiasm. In fact, the action revolves around boxer Joe Pendleton, who during the flight on the plane to the next fight tragically crashes. As it turns out, his death was a clerical error of the angel number 7013. By directing the complaint directly to his superiors, Joe gets a chance to find a second life in another person’s body, as his own body has been cremated. It so happens that Joe finds himself in the body of the famous all over America millionaire Bruce Finesworth, from whom his insidious wife and her lover are trying to get rid of. For this reason, Joe is drawn into a series of funny incidents. Still, dreaming of returning to a boxing career, Joe, being a millionaire, undertakes a number of rash actions that meet fierce criticism from both Bruce's colleagues and his wife, who risks losing her entire fortune. And then comes the charming Miss Logan, whose father was behind bars because of Farnsworth. Joe decides to help everyone, including himself, but that has its consequences.
Result Overall, "Here's Mr. Jordan" is a good fantasy comedy with a very positive bias that will make you smile while watching. The film still distinguishes the original plot, fervent atmosphere without excessive pathos and sentiments and excellent acting. Therefore, I strongly recommend watching.
