And watch and listen. I decided to revise this film purely out of nostalgia, which was inspired by watching The Ballad of the Valiant Knight Ivanhoe. And I watched the director (which is longer) and the rental versions. And this is what I can share on the result of viewing – first, the plot of the film is weak in some places, secondly, the actors do not all look organic in their images and thirdly, music is power. And in the rolling version it throws more, and why? All right - the absence of ballads Vladimir Semenovich Vysotsky. This is the most direct proof of how music affects perception, everything - then the timekeeping is increased by the length of the songs, and the result takes for the soul. And in a completely different way, you tune in to viewing, after the title ballad, and the Baltic beauty of Regina Razuma is harmoniously interwoven into the narrative, against the background of a burned house, and the tragedy at the wedding of Sir Alan takes for the soul, after accompanying the action with emotional “Hate” and “The Ballad of Short Happiness”. And not so faded look Sheriff and Guy Gisborne, the feeling that the songs Vysotsky highlighted the inner energy of the game Masiulis and Int Buruns, who played them. Also in this film, Robin Hood was played by Boris Khmelnitsky, who will play him in Ivanhoe, probably for him this is a significant role, since no one was able to embody this image so vividly that years later the actor is associated with this role.
“Sometimes I think there is a God. And then I get scared" - these words in the mouth of Guy Gisborne, addressed to the bishop, are remembered especially as a reminder that untruths will be punished. Naively, the message of honesty and kindness sounds like the leitmotif of this film, but it should be with fists, and crowns the emotional intensity of the final fight under the heartbreaking “Ballads of struggle”. Powerful and organic.
I can say one thing, Vysotsky’s talent, even a mediocre film, will paint with an emotional rainbow and heat, so if anyone is going to watch this film, then only with ballads. And then you can enjoy the play of Khmelnitsky, a young Reason (she really is worth it in this film) and the episodic role of Mirdza Martinson, who in the future will play perfectly in Mirage and the inimitable Via Artman. Personally for me, this film is associated with a bright childhood, but also in adulthood causes positive emotions.
