“Joy and sadness are always together.” See you again, friend.
We're super ninja turtles! Look at us here: one, two, three, four! . .
"Teenage Ninja Turtles", 2003-2009.
I am revisiting this animated series once again, for the fifth time already, and it still delivers to me! What an excellent series: thin, written, serious, sometimes tough and dramatic! Such turtles in the media space we are unlikely to see. Unless, of course, they give free rein to the creators and do not do there, for example, according to the latest new comic about turtles - "The Last Ronin", then yes, there are chances.
So, seasons. Every season is filled with story, action and meaning! At least the first four or five seasons... Plus a great voiceover from our voice masters! Although the second and fifth seasons somehow did not fall under the aegis of the voice studio. In general, if you move from season to season, the gloom, drama, rigidity only increases with each time, the series seems to capture its live characters, its actions, its strong moments! I think the second season was more like a transition. The most touching episode is about Christmas, and the darkest, cruelest is when Donatello enters an alternate future! That's what he got, of course. And how Leonardo became more evil than even Raphael! That's great. But then...
Season five. Here, the creators of the series decided to connect the unrelated: fantasy / magic with fiction / technology. As you can see, in each season there was a visible line between the series, where there was only magic / fantasy, and exclusively technology. And it's so nicely presented, and nothing interferes with each other, everything is in abundance, it didn't look too loaded. But in season five, they decided to make this -- not a crude but a mistake -- link the unrelated: magic and technology. After all, this season was somewhat overloaded.
And here's season six ... it's not clear why, but they made it kind of dumb, stupid, which is just ridiculous, absurd, small, but just like that. Compared to previous seasons, as it was there, let’s say, what was the “height”, and here it was. So the theme with time travel is fun, has the right to exist, places were really worthy series, but so ... average.
The final season is the seventh, brand new in style, voices and ideas. Of course, there is nothing wrong with new ideas, but it all looked somehow... strained, somehow not quite natural by the standards of the series, of course, inhibited even... You can watch it that way, but there wasn’t as much interest as in the first seasons, and yet it’s good that they stopped at fourteen... not quite worth it this season.
Uh, that's what I painted, of course. Thank you for reading this!
9 out of 10
Still, this rating goes more to the first seasons than the last three.
I watched an animated series recently. Friends told me it was made more from a comic book and even showed me the originals. Fortunately, I can read in English. However, when he found out that Splinter was Hamato Yoshi's rat and pet, not himself. I would say I was a little surprised. And the turtles were thrown into the sewers either by accident or on purpose (although the authors did not leave the turtles in 1987). The new Mutant Ninja Turtles seem young and green. That's what happened in the comic. But it seemed to me that only Rafael had changed. He became a sensitive and kind character in the end.
I agree with others about the rough drawing. Turtles look too pumped, and you involuntarily think that they escaped from a fitness club flooded with mutagen). I'm kidding, but I still think these brave guys are thinking from the series: "First you should hit the head, and then ask questions." And only from series to series, they begin to get stronger and smarter.
What can I say about April O’Neill’s favorite character? I never thought she was the most beautiful girl on earth. Yet in the old version, her tenacity and fearlessness made me believe. She is a really good journalist and at the same time, she is not afraid to risk even at the cost of her own life.
But this series is different. The heroine is beautiful, although she looks somewhat punkovato (I do not like words), but the same charge of vivacity and energy does not carry. On the other hand, he knows what poverty is and is friends with the avenger guy Casey Jones (not a vigilante in a bad way, but a hero avenger), who will later become a friend and turtles too. It will help you fight against different villains. Still, Casey Jones was more interesting than April herself. It is more written and has its own history.
I also miss Irma Langinstein or just Irma, April O’Neill’s best friend and colleague. Personally, I like this character. In some places, a funny, and to some extent, a complete antipode of April. Sometimes cowardly and a little insecure, but at the same time charming and sensitive girl. And, by the way, he loves men, but often fails with them. April is not interested in the opposite sex. Personally, I love the old version for the characters that are closest to real life. For example, the fat chef and the cunning and quirky colleague April.
In the new series, her relationship with colleagues paid little attention. So it looks like a pretty empty character.
This is a problem with many other characters. For example, the film adds many female characters who are not averse to smearing trained male ninjas and turtles, respectively. It's not bad, but when it's curated in almost all the series. This seems too feminist (in modern terms, of course). I personally do not understand why in different episodes to insert conflicts between men and women on empty ground.
What conquered the old series is that in it the characters are the most plastic and not hypertrophied. Here women are too beautiful and have many habits of men. Honestly, I like the Avatar of the Legend of Aang and Danny Ghost better. And the female characters are better there.
And yet, if you look closely, the series is quite interesting in its own way. Although there was no such angular drawing in the old one. For example, buildings and structures look a little worse than the characters themselves. In the old version, they paid attention to everything, every little thing. But there are pluses that the series has finally become more unified and systematic. Almost all the series are united by one big plot, and only sometimes the series is dedicated to a certain character (even the villains got their more detailed story). The story became darker and more adult. There is no softness of lines, devils and sometimes, stupid moments on the part of heroes and villains. Well, there are, but you don't treat heroes like clowns. I admit that I treated Schroeder, Beeble, Roxsteady, Krang with humor. Although turtles (mostly Michelangelo made me laugh with his naivete). But so is Irma. Especially when she fell into the hands of villains on her own clumsiness and on the advice of someone else.
Still, it's still a cartoon for a more adult audience. Small children will not understand any twists and turns. But as they say, who is what?
But back to Schroeder. Schroeder is not represented here by an envious and arrogant character (although there are certain features of cynicism in this version). However, his status, plans and ambitions are no longer backed by blunt revenge on turtles. On the contrary, he wants to work with them. And in some series, he almost succeeds. Up to (temporary, of course) control of Splinter. Here he is a noble warrior (but will betray anyone with political views) and most importantly, a samurai. And then you can see that he is devilishly rich. Unlike the old version, it can make compromises. That is, to negotiate with friends, enemies and even neutrals. And sometimes he beats the turtles. Curiously, I was never able to accept his death. However, as well as the death of Baxter Stockmann and the presence of a huge big guy Khan, who for all his frightening power is not without humor and intelligence. The fact that Schroeder helps his clan of shadows. Those who support Schroeder.
But that's the downside. It's Schroeder's daughter Karai. The appearance of my daughter seemed unnecessary and unnecessary. Simply put, I think it's superfluous. Just a female version of Schroeder. Of course, her backstory is interesting, but attempts to make her partly noble and partly a warrior loyal to Schroeder. Her throwing interferes with the plot, and it is not surprising that I never understood the character. Personally, I think Zuko and Azoula were better spelled in Avatar. On the other hand, the creators of the Avatar could be inspired by these two characters to create villains: Azula, Zuko, Ozaya. Maybe Jao too.
Bottom line: you can watch the series. I looked and I didn't regret it. And I liked Schroeder and the other villains. In fact, even to some extent, Karai. She is also trying to understand the world and, in turn, to understand herself. What does she want? She's a soldier or a free man. Which is interesting, by the way. Many characters ask this question. And here they are more serious and more vital.
I am a fan of the old version of the series.
The 2003 Ninja Turtles is an animated series that gave many children childhood, including me. An animated series about the life of 4 mutant brothers and their teacher rat, who are trained in martial arts. And one day they get to the surface, which begins the great adventures.
Brief pros: well-written characters, the best animated series in the morning Shredder (Scotty Ray did a great job), excellent openings (all without exception), musical accompaniment, drawing (even now it is not bad), plot, well-written worldbuilding. And my separate plus — the atmosphere more than others close to the origins, namely comics about turtles in 1984 from those very Kevin Eastman and Peter Lerd, who created our favorite brothers turtles.
I found few disadvantages for myself, but briefly: a strange balance of forces (I think some will understand what I mean), rolling back from season 6, misunderstandings with Russian voice acting (dubbing, then amateur, inflamed), sometimes merge the potential of the characters (elite guard Foot as an example).
Despite these disadvantages, I enjoyed watching all seasons and the movie “Turtles Forever”, which also left a place in my heart.
Is this animated series the best adaptation of Ninja Turtles? Yes, with all due respect for the 2012 adaptation, which I consider to be a good one, no adaptation has come close to the level of the 2003 turtles and is unlikely to fit (however, opinion may change with a more dignified adaptation in the future, which, unfortunately, I do not hope for).
In conclusion, I want to say that this animated series looked great both then and now and I really want to erase my memory and watch this masterpiece again with a crossover film, as I once did as a child.
Strong, courageous, not devoid of kindness, ninja turtle mutants who grew up in the sewers, who throughout their lives were engaged in martial arts and wisdom that they took from books, so they do not behave childishly like their counterparts from other animated series.
Animation was released in 2003, but now looks quite cheerful and brisk, combined with the effects of blows, when the characters beat the camera, looks unique and stylish.
The soundtrack is also at the highest level, starting with the opening, which does not copy the turtles 1987, but gives something original, ending with themes of characters that sound great, even when they just appear in the frame.
Characters are revealed and everyone has both bad traits and good ones.
No agenda, but the female characters are pretty strong.
As a child, I watched this animated series on DVD, and everywhere I looked for discs, around the city, plus, when I woke up, immediately turned on TV, waiting for new episodes, and they did not let me down.
For Shredder a special thank you, the best villain ever, above Makuta with Bionicles for me even, for pathetic, suggestive, smart. In general.
I would put 9 out of 10, for the fact that dubbing in places sags, and somewhere it does not exist, and that season 7 has slipped, even though season 6 and I like personally, but I can not, I just have a hand will not rise.
There was a time when every teenager had a four-episode CD. There was no way to see the whole thing – the internet was a luxury back then. All I had to do was swap discs with my friends and watch them to the holes. After a while, when interest in the animated film faded, four turtles, a rat and others reminded of themselves once again - comics and cards with characters began to be sold in prints. This was a massive delight that lasted quite a long time. Interest was so strong that collecting cards overshadowed the desire to watch the series, although at that time the opportunity was already there. A few years ago, however, the hands were still there.
The animated series is really cool! Not bad, both vertical and horizontal plot. Interesting characters. Very instructive, but, unfortunately, few series. A large number of references and parodies to pop culture. Humor for a more adult audience. In general, it is not for nothing that the cartoon managed to exist for seven years and achieve the same honor as the characters of the animated series Marvel and DC, but there is an opinion that the cartoon did not surpass its predecessor. It's hard to judge. Different age restrictions. I don't think I'll have the patience to look at the iconic turtles of the nineties.
However, we need to talk about the disadvantages. They can be combined into one, which is a commercial goal. At the beginning of the project, there was no clear idea when and what the final will be. It was the reaction of the public. For this reason, a gradual decline in the story quality of each season is clearly visible, where the creators began to repeat or suck everything out of the finger. The stagnation of the series led to the repeated change of the Russian voiceover - from official dubbing to amateur. The finale of the project turned out to be very faded, which can not but upset, despite the fact that it is only a cartoon.
In any case, the picture leaves a mostly good impression even after its complete revision as early as twenty-four years. Perhaps this is because of nostalgia, or maybe this is a really good children's series based on comics, in which the authors decided on a bold decision - to turn extremely slow animals into skillful ninjas.

Back in the '90s, I, like many boys, was a fan of Ninja Turtles, the green brothers from the original 1987-1996 series. As time passed, new spectators (children) came to replace our generation. And in the 2000s, there were “New Adventures” of old heroes. So meet me:
Leonardo still wears a blue mask and wields two swords of Catan. An informal turtle leader, brave, determined and loyal. He devotes a lot of time to meditation. A strict adherent of bushido, clearly follows the rules of honor. Splinter's eldest son and heir. He tries to follow all the rules of the teacher and protect his brothers. Named after Leonardo da Vinci.
Donatello wears a purple mask and wields a pole - Bo. The most intelligent of the brothers, and indeed of turtles. Amateur scientist, researcher and “just a genius.” He is the least aggressive in the team because he prefers to resolve conflicts peacefully. Named after Donato di Niccolo di Betto Bardi.
Raphael wears a red mask and owns a pair of daggers. The most aggressive and suspicious of the brothers, jealous of Leonardo's leadership. Physically, he is the strongest member of the team. He likes to tease and make fun of Michelangelo, hanging his backs at the first opportunity. Named after Rafael Santi.
Michelangelo is better known as the Titan Turtle. He wears an orange mask and owns a pair of Nunchaks. Mikey is very cheerful and kind. Leo, Donnie and Raf treat him like a younger brother, and often hang his backs after he says another stupid thing. His frivolous behavior Mikey constantly annoys Rafael, which is why they often have fights. Even in serious battles, he continues to have fun - in every possible way mocks his opponents and loudly praises himself after another defeated enemy. Sometimes, he's very smart. He loves to read comics and eat pizza, loves extreme skateboarding. Named after Michelangelo Buanorroti.
It’s been many years since watching the original series, and I don’t remember many details of the plot, but one thing is for sure – “New Turtle Adventures” is a kind of remake, with its own changes and additions. It is believed that the plot of this series is closer to the comics of Mirage Comics and is designed for a different audience ... more adult. Since I have not read the comics, I will only evaluate what I have seen... comparing it to the original animated series.
So, compared to the original series, New Adventures has become much darker. Moreover, the gloom of adventures adds both the atmosphere of night New York, where most of the adventures take place, and a more detailed drawing of the characters.
In addition to the atmosphere, the design of the turtles themselves has changed, they have become a little older and more pumped. No, no, they're still the same teenagers, they still like to have fun and fool around, but their adventures don't look childish as in the original series. The fairy tale and farce plot is replaced by a more serious narrative, the personalities of the heroes are revealed deeper. Before, turtles fought and defeated their enemies, and then sat down to eat pizza. Then in “New Adventures” everything is much more complicated – harsher, darker, angrier. The characters of our heroes have become more complex. Turtles fight, lose, heal their wounds, they are tormented by emotional unrest and tormented by contradictions. And yes, the Green Brothers no longer eat pizza in every episode.
Also, unlike the original series, the eyes of our heroes have become completely white. At first, it looks strange and unusual, but over time you get used to it.
Changes have affected other characters to some extent. We will not see some of them, but we will see others. April O'Neill is no longer working on television. And Bebop and Rocksteady, unfortunately, did not get enough screen time in New Adventures. But there were new and very interesting characters, with well-thought-out characters. For example, I liked Miyamoto Usagi, a samurai rabbit from another universe that turtles met at the Battle of Nexus. He visited Earth several times and helped turtles.
In general, it should be noted that the design and characters of turtles and other characters, as well as the graphics of the world around them, look very, very worthy. You can see that the creators tried to glory. Our heroes are waiting for adventures not only on the streets of New York, but also in feudal Japan, in space, in the past and future, as well as in cyberspace.
The first 5 seasons are great. Linear story from series to series. The main focus is on the confrontation between the Turtles and Schroeder. Some characters appear in one or two episodes and then disappear... to return after a while. And the most interesting thing is that from series to series our heroes remember the events of their adventures. Thus, the series has a clear storyline, which is an undoubted plus.
Humor is also present, mainly associated with references to various cult films, TV series and their heroes. So among the familiar, green mutants, there is a team of superheroes “Forces of Justice”. Not the Justice League from DC. And the superhero “Nobody” is a kind of parody of “Batman.”
In Season 6, The Turtles are in the future. To the disadvantages of the season, I attribute significant changes. First, the design of the Turtles changes, their heads acquire an angular shape (pentagon). And clothes (bandages) and additional ammunition acquire an acid color, slightly cutting the eye. Secondly, the characters and behavior of our heroes have changed - the turtles have become more trusting and relaxed, less suspicious. Of course, the changes in characters can be explained by a new environment, because our heroes can freely walk around the city not only at night, but also during the day. And the dark, gloomy streets of New York were replaced by a bright and bright future. The season lost its gloom and seriousness. Adventures have become easier and more fun. What has gone wrong with the series.
In the 7th, final season - the images of the turtles have changed again - became more similar to the images from the first 5 seasons: more rounded heads (angularity disappeared), the usual design and color of the bandages. And finally, the eyes have changed, black pupils appear on them - as in the original series. The design of the world has also changed, as have the images of other characters.
On the one hand, the creators tried to return our characters to the familiar framework of the dark and gloomy, nightly New York surrounding them, more or less returning the usual design and characters as in the first seasons. At the same time, we did not depart from the bright colors of the 7th season (adventures in cyberspace). Overall, it was a decent ending to a great series.
As a result, we have before us the rare case when a remake or, if you like, a new version of the old story looks no worse than the original. Some seasons I liked more, some a little less, but in the end, “New Adventures” of old heroes deserve to be released.

I’ve been a fan of the show since I was a kid, and I remember spending all my pocket money buying new tapes of the original 1987 series. I remember that each episode looked from a clean slate, there was almost no general plot, the ninja-turtles got into one adventure, then into another. The unifying motive of all these series was the eternal struggle between good and evil. And, although there is a huge number of original antagonists in the animated series, it is impossible to imagine turtles without fighting with Schroeder and his fortress Technodrom.
And yet the 1987 animated series was more like another comedy show for children with some portion of American morality (such as: a sense of patriotism, the universalist mission of the United States to reproduce world-class heroes, etc.).
The 2003 series is completely different. It shows a profound change in American cinema - from beautiful cover to interior content. The Turtles in the 2003 TV series are not just four friends living in urban sewers and weaving pizza to April O'Neill's reporting, in breaks from idleness saving the planet from Schroeder, who is more like the performer of grandiose but absurd plans of Krang (who wants to steal the Eiffel Tower, then change the climate on Earth), no.
In the 2003 series, there is a profound transformation of turtles, each of them is an established personality, with its own strengths and flaws. They live in the sewers, fearful of being judged by the world around them that will never accept them for who they are. This goes on for about 16 years, until one day everything changes.
Conflicts over leadership, brotherly love, mutual assistance, attitudes to strength and mental training, adherence to the code of honor, contacts with people (Casey, April), whom turtles take into their humble family, open up the delightful world of social turtles - ninjas, albeit brought up on American morality. They are almost the same as us, with the only difference that they are turtles, so they sometimes find it difficult to adapt to the world around them.
And the world depicted by professional artists is not at all so peaceful. From the first season, where turtles really seem a thorn in the eye of familiar locations, we are drawn into the abyss of such mysteries and mysteries that four huge turtles do not seem anything surprising.
Here you and the mystery of the origin, and the connecting, really attractive role of Schroeder, two of them, one of whom was a ninja in ancient Japan, who fell into the sin of power, and the second, who used the name Oroku Saki to create the famous clan "Foot", a multimillionaire, actively developing the economy of New York and building spaceships to revenge his sworn enemies. Here you can find interplanetary contacts with hostage-taking around the world with the exhausted United Nations, and secret structures under the governments of developed countries that have contacts with distant worlds.
What I especially like, a single style of animation in contrast to the version of 1987, drawn, it seems, in the hum of different studios and with frankly simple plots, smoothly flowing into fabulous.
The series 2003 is a real saga about four turtles, about their place in society, their relationship with people, following the code of honor, about the attitude to the enemy, family, revenge with stunning animation, a beautiful soundtrack and the steely voice of Schroeder-Charel performed by Ray Scott.
Definitely recommended to watch the legendary series about turtles, the closest to the original story!
I’m so glad I didn’t see any negative reviews about my favorite TV series. Like so many people here, it was my childhood movie. And then I was impressed by the fights, from the beautiful drawing, where the four mutants and other characters look alive. But after reviewing the series a little older and reviewing it now, I just want to cry from the excellent plot and meaning in it.
To begin with, the characters themselves, their characters ... just chic, reviewing from the first season, and especially if you see the first series, you can understand how much different turtles from turtles, say, the third season. In the first season, they are still kids. Because by our standards, they were sort of 16-17. But you really feel the difference. They did not yet know about the horrors that they would have to go through and did not know about the pain that they themselves would experience.
Turtles grow up from season to season, and morally. They become more resilient, stronger, brave. Each of them learned many lessons, but most of all, probably, Leonardo.
I may be wrong, but I think so. It was always my favorite character. And in fact, he's the strongest. He has a lot of struggle with his inner world. How much pain he endured, just does not fit into his head. He's trying to be a real leader and when he realized, in one episode, that he couldn't protect the family... it was always a big blow to him. He really is the most mature in spirit, none of the turtles have experienced so much. And in many series showed Leonardo closed, who does not talk to anyone, who plunged into himself with his head. I haven’t seen anyone like that.
The series is very interesting. It makes you stick to the screen and enjoy watching. This series really made me cry, laugh, think... There are beautiful villains who bring goosebumps ... only Schroeder what is worth... I would like to express my gratitude to the creators. Their series is really unique, no series went to me because they are flat and boring to the point of disgust. This is just a faceted diamond.
And after all, beautifully, and most importantly correctly said Leonardo in one of the series Mikey:
“It will not be one, it will not be all.” That's really true. They're not just a family, they're a team, a whole. And if one of them is suddenly taken away by death ... soon it will come for the others, because they cannot exist separately. And it was perfectly illustrated in the grim future where Donnie was sent. After all, according to the history of the series, he allegedly disappeared for thirty years, because the team completely disintegrated, so Schroeder also became the ruler of the whole world, and the turtles became worthless weaklings, here forgive me for directness. They did not hide their helplessness, because they simply gave up and stopped fighting evil, without their brother genius.
Let me tell you again, the series is excellent. He made my childhood, and I know I will include my child.
I never really liked a 90s cartoon or a turtle movie. They always seemed too childish and stupid to me. And sometime in the mid-2000s, when DVDs had not yet been supplanted by VHS, I received three 2003 Turtles as a New Year's gift. At first, I wanted to watch them, as my previous experience with green guys was not good. But one day I decided to look at what kind of beast this is and from the very first minutes I could not come off and watched all three tapes in a volley. After that, I went around the city looking for other episodes, unfortunately there were none. And only with the advent of the Internet, I was able to watch this series.
Unlike other film adaptations more designed for children of junior classes, this one is designed for teenagers and does not represent the clowning of a rural theater circle. The new adventures are more serious and even darker. Of course, this is not a Game of Thrones, but the main characters do not always win and get out of trouble. In one episode, the turtles were beaten to death and several episodes could not recover from the defeat, healing bruises and fractures. Also, the turtles themselves are very well revealed as characters, which was not in any of the previous incarnations. Throughout the seasons, each hero was allocated a separate series, where we could better get to know and feel the character. Especially, it was good to show the formation of Leo as a leader. He did not immediately become a strong and strong leader. We were gradually shown his failures and victories, how he learned from his mistakes and went through a lot to become that leader. Other turtles have also been revealed in more detail, deepening their familiar imagery: Raf is a tough guy, Don is smart, Mikey is funny. And in general, with the characters in the series everything is just fine, even those who appeared only for one episode, the creators managed to make interesting. The plot here clearly tried, because the series managed to keep the intrigue for almost all seasons. Even the filler series turned out to be interesting and did not cause irritation as in many other series.
The series consists of 7 seasons. The first four seasons can be called the standard of adventure history. The fifth season was noticeably weaker than the previous ones, but in principle, it was still not bad. And we'd better finish it. The next two seasons completely killed the series. The creators decided to completely change the tone and style making turtles more childish. That was a big mistake. Turtles began to look more like an animated series of the 90s, turned into a real clown.
It's a shame the 2003 turtles were forgotten. Now, when mentioning ninja turtles, they recall either the turtles of the 90s or the god-awful 2012 series, which loses to New Adventures in everything: action, character development, plot. As a result, we can only say one thing: at the moment this is the best adaptation of the adventures of green mutants.
8 out of 10
Of all the Turtle series, this one was the most successful. It's not as childish and primitive as the 1987 Turtles, and it doesn't have the horrible drawings and characters of the 2012 Turtles. And in terms of the plot, he is also a head above other animated series about turtles.
Let's start with the characters. They were all good here. Turtles themselves are smarter and more interesting when compared to other animated series. I also like April, who is strong, beautiful and brave here. The same goes for Karai, who had to constantly decide which side to play for. There were no secondary characters, and there were many of them. For example, the ninja tribunal and their views on the world, I largely agree with them.
As for the villains, the identity of Shredder, or rather the Shredders, here also surprised. But the villains turned out well, although without Shredder the plot went well. It is worth noting Agent Bishop, whose first 2 fights with the turtles and their allies were very chic. It takes a long time to list everything.
They also managed to visit many interesting places: from the underworld to other dimensions. I must say that these places themselves are well made. I wanted to be in those places when I saw it.
And almost all seasons did not disappoint, especially the first 5. Only the sixth was a bit boring. But the seventh is good again, only the drawing has become worse.
As a result, we have here the best characters, the best plot, the best fighting scenes and the most interesting places among all the animated series about turtles, which rightfully makes it the best.

Almost everyone whose childhood fell on the last decade of the last century knows how to make real medieval weapons at home and has a sacred knowledge of the fact that pizza with anchovies is a moveton. Even if you are not one of them – you still at least from the corner of your eye and maybe both watched the adventures of the green four superstars. Uh, heroes? Well, to put it bluntly, is there anyone here who has never heard of the Ninja Turtles?
Since there are unlikely to be such – according to our good tradition, it is worth going back a little to the past. More precisely, as a little - for a rather impressive period of 30 years. After all, it was then that two friends – big fans of comics and amateur artists decided to release a modest circulation of only 3 thousand copies of their first work in the field of “fun pictures” under the concise name – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (which literally means the next “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”). Originally conceived by its creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird as an easy parody of the most popular in the 80s “noir” and “team” series of such industry giants as Marvel Comics and DC Comics, the comic suddenly developed into an independent part of world pop culture overnight, annihilating their “fathers” and making their names famous all over the world. The success was phenomenal. Several separate lines of magazines were followed by the legendary animated series, several adaptations, a failed television series, anime and finally in 2003 from under the caring wing of 4Kids and Mirage Comics (the studio that was actually engaged from the very beginning of the release of comics on the franchise), as well as with the direct participation of Laird and Eastman, the same show for which we are all here today and gathered with the same name - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in our dub logically though confusing potential consumers called Turtles ninja: New adventures.
Despite the fact that I was sighing to print out a new cassette, I expected to see what the title promised me – namely, the “new adventures” of those same turtles from the first shots, it was obvious that this was something completely different. At first, it was difficult to get used to the absolute updated drawing and animation (yes, I did not understand by my childhood naivety that for 16 years progress, including in animation, did not stand still), but when the first shock passed I saw that even to the amusement of the public thrown tomatoes makes me wonder if this is not the best animated incarnation of Turtles? Behind the angular features of the new characters, which were more like Mexican wrestlers with a rare skin disease and pseudo-animous stylistics, there was a very deep drama, non-trivial plots, characters with bright and memorable characters and just so incredibly cool villains against the background of which sometimes even 4 main characters looked faded. As I have already noted above, it is in the hands of those people who pretended all this splendor in life that the direct complicity of the publishing house issuing the original comic book also played. This is noticeable in almost everything – in some places, the citation of the original source is so literal that Spider-Man with his remade stories from the 70s can stand aside (although for obvious reasons, the “toughness” in comparison with the stories from the Mirage studio has decreased). Of course, in such a deep barrel of honey there were a couple of rather impressive spoons of tar. The first was that the greedy producers, as in the case of the cult predecessor of the 87th in our country, simply did not know where to stop. It got to the point that closer to the very end, the design of some characters in comparison with the early series radically changed (again, the “bad legacy” from the first cartoon). The second “spoon” that flows smoothly from the first is a completely inappropriate screenwriters’ cutaway especially brightly and violently blooming in the middle of the 2nd season and continuing to callouse the eyes for quite a long time. Spoilers on this occasion will probably be inappropriate here and I will only say that if someone was amazed by how the new Shredder appeared before us, then after a few episodes of the second you will either be amazed or hate this cartoon - or all together. But I know from my experience that in such cases there is no third.
Bottom line: Let many including me, this version of the adventures of pancer-headed guys does not cause those nostalgic feelings that the movies or cheerful and cheerful first animated series should be noted that the work was done aahovaya and the task was very difficult - to introduce a new image of old characters as skillfully and with dignity as possible. This was only partly the case, although it’s not even the flaws of the show itself. It is just too hard to break in the mass consciousness of stereotypes. Therefore, with all the drawbacks and pros, “old-new” pizza eaters get from me.
8 out of 10
In 2003, the animated series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” was restarted. The new series was made on the original comics created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The series did not like many fans of the old cartoon, but still had popularity with modern youth. Well, fans of the old cartoon constantly troll just insult the series for no reason. Speech in the style of "New cartoon absolutely tasteless." Yeah, a lot of things have changed. But the series is very fresh and interesting, not tasteless. Fans of the old cartoon, of course, do not want to put up with the fact that in the new cartoon so much cruelty, violence, with any thriller, this cartoon can compete.
I personally grew up on that 80s cartoon too, but it was in my preschool years. I remember watching each episode with excitement, admiring these turtles over and over again. They're heroes of my childhood. But one day I saw a cassette with a new cartoon on the market, and it was kind of lazy to take. Later, I picked up the tape, only I thought it was a sequel to the old cartoon, just with a different animation. This is an entirely new project.
When I first watched it, I was very surprised because there was nothing to do with the old series. The turtles themselves became mutants not because Schroeder sketched a bunch of mutagens into their lair, but because of one accident. Also changed the origin of their master Splinter. The one here is Hamato Yoshi's apprentice rat. Now, this is kind of weird, how can a rat learn the art of ninja? The turtle's girlfriend is April O; Neal is no longer a Channel 6 journalist, but an ordinary antique shop owner. And one of the main characters for 7 seasons is still Casey Jones, who in the past cartoon appeared only 3-4 times.
The humor in the new cartoon remained, but the turtles do not spend time on pizza (!) and they became more serious. Turtles also have more new enemies. In addition to Schroeder, turtles face such opponents as: Baxter Stockman, Nano, Garbageman, Huck, Purple Dragons, Bishop, Triceratons, Super Ninja, Draco, Karai, Khan, Darius Dan, Electronic, General Blanc, Elite Troops of Foot and many other villains who were present at all 7 seasons. And here's another interesting thing, Schroeder here in general (!) three.
The number of both positive and negative characters has increased. Each character was just perfectly studied, there is no such thing as “evil because evil”. As funny as it sounds, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is a really serious thing, at least in the original comics, and actually here. The first season, as expected, was the most atmospheric. He kept us up to date, let us warm up. The second season, in my opinion, is quite a worthy continuation, but with a shitty Russian voiceover. In the third season, the cast changed (again). The third season is one of my favorites. The final four episodes of the third season were amazing. I'm talking about "Hostile World", "Together Again" and the two parts "New Task". It would seem that it is over, but there is still 4 seasons.
I personally think the fourth season is the best. The characters themselves have changed a lot. There were both new enemies and improved old ones. I also want to mention the appearance in this cartoon of “Rat King” (from the series “I am a monster”), he was my favorite opponent in the old cartoon.
The fifth season was also a great one, and it didtted the I. But all of a sudden, season 6 comes out, where the turtles enter the future. At first it was very unusual, but with each series the season became more interesting and atmospheric. I wanted to know what happened next. There were a lot of questions in 26 episodes, but instead of answers, I only got season 7 of Back to the sewer. In my opinion, this is a failure.
The animation has weakened, and I am not talking about the plot at all. It got really boring. I just want to mention a pretty good series of Super Quest. I also liked the new Cyber Shredder. And then there's a great series where Sarling goes back in time and goes right back to the time when the turtles were kids (I don't remember the title of this series). Not that this series is cruel and dark (it is not), but the series is very sweet, kind and fabulous. It is thanks to this series that I feel calm about the seventh season.
In the end, it's a great show. But the excess of ideas seems to have plagued the authors since season 6. In this cartoon perfectly combines drama, comedy, mysticism, fantasy and thriller. Yes, it is very different from its predecessor of the 80s. But I personally love both of these cartoons equally, they both have their pluses. They're different, so it's stupid to level them up.
