An entertaining story about the life of a guy with memory lapses, which in the future open him with an unusual ability to influence the past through memories. The next question is whether this is a gift or rather a curse.
Immediately striking is the gloomy, repulsive style of the film. Basically, the visual range is painted in pale blue or pale yellow. Through such a color, the mood is clearly transmitted at various moments. For example, the happiest period is filled with bright acid flowers.
As a minus there is a nondescript trivial camera work, which in places knocks down the mood of the whole picture. And also break all the harmony of cheap effects and makeup. In addition, no actor was remembered, too inconspicuous play of the entire composition.
The only significant plus is the plot. The film narrates it as it should, based on the term “butterfly effect”. By creating a paradox within himself, he skillfully holds the viewer’s attention. This film is unique.
However, aside from the concept of the butterfly effect, the film is weak. The motivation of the protagonist is unclear, confused and sometimes meaningless, as if he still got the brain of a butterfly. The plot itself develops willfully and illogically, ending absolutely the same.
But I realized that the power of the film lies in its aftertaste. It makes you think about your past by comparing it to the present. It teaches us to accept the past as given and demonstrates the irreversibility of the present in the real world, increasing its value. As a result, you understand that you need to act now, without postponing anything for later. Especially as for people, because death is the most irreversible thing in life.
After watching a slightly different look at life then and now, amazed at what the future really prepared for you. It is impossible to predict, and if you try, you will only spoil the present.

So, what can we say about the feature film “The Butterfly Effect”, or “Butterfly Effect”, if we turn to the original language. To say, perhaps, really a lot. First of all, the directors of this artwork, of which there are two, do not even have their own page on the Wikipedia website, which tells us about the exceptional modesty of these proud artisans and the high concentration on their work and the final result.
From the poster of the film, the perpetrator of the celebration, the great and terrible Ashton Kucher, looks directly into our eyes. In his eyes, a red light shines with bright sparks, as if hinting at the viewer - your life will change forever, if you just watch this film canvas and a review of Alexander Shpunkin.
To be honest, The Butterfly Effect doesn’t try to grab stars from the sky. There is no pretentiousness and falsehood, there is absolutely no pathos in it. This is a very realistic story that could happen to any of us. Rarely when the viewer has the opportunity to immerse himself in what is happening on the screen. The butterfly effect is the case.
I'll say more. The film is titled in honor of a hypothetical phenomenon consisting in the deep interconnection of world events. One event leads to another, it leads to the next, and so on until the terrible judgment and the end of the ages. But if there is an end, there must be a beginning, don’t you think? And if so, where is the beginning? Where, how and why did the genesis of the great universal design begin?
The answer, of course, is everywhere and nowhere. We all have one destination, but everyone starts their journey at their own point of reference. Right? Wrong. Our journey begins only when we truly open our eyes and see the world as it is. In many cultures, this is called a second birth. But while the former can be documented, seen, preserved for centuries as an inexorable fact, the latter is subjective through and through. A person can truly believe in his own insight while remaining blind. The true tragedy of the universe is that some blind people lead others... but that’s a topic for another conversation.
Is it possible to find the absolute in this sea of darkness? Is there an objective reference point for the nature of man and the universe around him? Think about it. As a species, we need a foundation from which, like a tree, the branches of our lives will grow. Basic, zero knowledge. Do you know what I'm getting at?
The butterfly effect. One film is 120 minutes long from unnamed directors. Just one piece of work. Answering any question that a thinking being may have. It gives a whole new perspective on things... Do you understand? The Butterfly Effect is a second birth. This is the starting point from which everything begins. The life of the beholder is divided into before and after right in the process of viewing. And this is the real butterfly effect.
This is an unusual film, even provocative. And with all the "charms" of real and harsh life... The 18+ mark is still worth it.
Although the presentation of the film for my “gentle soul” leaves much to be desired, it is with an interesting idea, direction and production. It didn't feel like you were watching a memorized performance. Everything is quite concise, like a case in life, but embellished, with tricks and with its barbs, that not everyone will like (I also mean to myself).
Probably, the essence of the film is that even with the ability to wind down time, no matter how you try to fix something, if fate says that it is not destined, then it will always not be destined. But unlike the movie, we can’t try several options and know for sure which of the actions will be the best for everyone.
You can watch a movie once, but if you are not as much a fan of the “severe realities” as I am, then you can not watch. You won't lose much.
“The Butterfly Effect” is a basic tenet of Chaos Theory: “Such minor changes, such huge consequences.” In the film, it is very convincingly shown... Good acting - each time a new reincarnation in an alternate reality. The script of the picture was born largely thanks to the famous story of Ray Bradbury “And thunder burst.” Writers J. Mackie Gruber and Eric Bress offered it to many, but no one took up the production until it fell into the hands of Ashton Kutcher (his surname, after all, contrary to the media, is pronounced Kutcher...). The actor was so impressed that he agreed to become one of the producers and allocate part of his own money to launch the project. By the way, according to Wikipedia, there are four versions of the ending of the film, in order of increasing happiness. From the first, test, the audience was horrified, in the movie rental everything is not so hopeless, although without the joint future of the main characters. But... OST for the movie "The Butterfly Effect" (2004) performed by "Oasis". The song itself sounds during the final credits of the picture. There’s a lot of good music in it, even the not-so-favorite Chemical Brothers... However, their "electronics" in the subject. . .
“Bastard” is a word that has always impressed you.
“The Butterfly Effect” is one of the few unique films that impresses without a huge budget, famous actors and a topical message. Shot 21 years ago, this drama still remains one of the best on the topic of going back in time and trying to change events.
Despite the genre of “fiction”, “The Butterfly Effect” is difficult to perceive as a fantastic movie. Terrible events in the lives of teenagers take the soul and make you empathize with the fate of teenagers as if you personally know them. Some scenes are generally striking in their cruelty, but there is nothing you can do – without the necessary drama, the story would not have turned out catchy. A small timekeeping did not prevent the disclosure of all the main characters (and there are, by the way, 4). I was also very pleased with the high-quality scenario – there is no “water”, no unnecessary dialogue and unnecessary characters. It's very clear and practical. I love when the director and the writer do not try to insert something unnecessary to increase screen time.
The film is simply devoid of bad actors - both adults and children played well. In 2003 Ashton Kutcher was not so famous and his appearance in The Butterfly Effect is his first significant dramatic role. He coped and now it is difficult to imagine in his place anyone else. Amy Smart, which in different realities becomes a prostitute, then the bride of Evan, just delightful. Of course, here and make-up artists tried, but still herself Amy was on top. Logan Lerman is something. When adult Evan moves into the body of a child, everything looks very plausible.
After watching, I want to think about the butterfly effect for a long time. In the bustle of everyday life, we do not think about the fact that just one decision made tomorrow or in a month can radically change our future and the future of people close to us. Just one sentence can turn life 360 degrees. When you imagine the number of your alternative “lives” depending on what you’ve done or said, it’s even scary.

If you liked The Butterfly Effect, be sure to watch Mr. Nobody - there is no less strong directing, but a more life-affirming plot.
Very difficult to design and implement a movie. To be clear, in the place of the main character, after the first unsuccessful experience, I would immediately try to return everything to normal, everything as it was before, albeit sacrificing something. Yes, there would be a lot of selfishness in such an ending, but for me it would be quite real.
Watching the film is really fascinating, it is interesting to watch the developing events. Gradually, new connections emerge and you make up all the parts into a single whole. However, this film is about great sacrifice, about self-sacrifice, which goes, among other things, the main character. The hero tries to save someone without thinking about the consequences for himself. Is that realistic? After all, most people are egoists, to whom I include myself, they think first of all about their good.
But as we can see, the main character is difficult to attribute to egoists. However, this does not follow from the narrative. What did Ashton Kutcher's character do from his promise: 'I'll comeback for you'? That’s right, literally nothing for many years. Is there some selfishness in that? In my opinion, yes. So, why does the hero suddenly become indifferent to certain events? Just the hero saw one of the flashbacks and realized that he did something wrong. I decided to fix something without doing anything for 7 years.
In general, in this I see discrepancies in the plot narrative, namely in the question of selfishness.
Cinema is certainly innovative to some extent, with well-chosen actors, with an original way of pitching. It is worth seeing it once to add up your own opinion. This movie is probably not about you or me.

An amazing story, a typical at first guy who has lapses in memory. And when you think about it, it all comes from a strange drawing of a boy. The work shows us not only how the life of the main character can develop in different ways, because of his actions, but also his environment, not always close. Most of all, the changes affect, it would seem, not so narrow-minded hero, Thomas.
I like the dynamics of the film, but I think there are those who prefer a more measured narrative. But, thanks to this approach, we have a sense of turmoil that brings us closer to the hero. In general, the style of presentation is definitely successful.
The plot managed to fit in 1.5 hours, with the condition that it does not feel unfinished. Although, the concept of time travel usually does not have time to open in such a period of time. It’s a pity that we don’t get to see the fate of the other heroes in the end, but Evan doesn’t know anything about it either. In general, we do not know anything that the main character does not know.
Amy Smart: Not even most actors, B movies, could play tears so badly. It is interesting that normal scenes, she plays normally.
Logan Lerman - despite his age, I want to celebrate his performance. Definitely stands out from others, for the better. In general, all of Evan's incarnations leave him satisfied, but he is especially.
Visual and audio techniques in the film are also abound, and they are performed at the proper level.

A small digression: I wanted to see the picture a long time ago, but everything was somehow not resolved. I thought it was a family movie with a little bit of science fiction and a "price what you have" moral. God, I was wrong. . .
Okay. Little Evan has a memory lapse. That, in my opinion, is the least of his problems. The father is in a psychiatric hospital, the father of a friend (the most beautiful actor in the film) shoots child porn, the sister’s brother is a squirrel, etc. To restore memory, the doctor advises to keep diaries. As an adult, Evan understands that reading these very diaries, he can go back and change it, but for the better?
The first thing to note is that the painting is very cruel. Throughout the film, there is both physical and psychological violence. Lives break down. Humor is little, he added, except that, to give naturalness to the characters and causes a maximum nervous smile.
The characters are somewhat superficial, but memorable. We will see them and return to them often. It is important that after each change in the past, they radically change externally and internally, for example:
A downtrodden, exhausted girl, “rotting” in solitude –> a happy university beauty who, nevertheless, fears the return of her brother from the colony –> a cheap whore in a dirty motel ... (and this is not the end of the chain, just spoilers would follow).
The plot is simply roof-bearing, a huge number of various locations. At the end there is a great twist that will make you whistle. There are parallels. It feels like a good book. Morality is questionable and somewhat fatalistic.
Now about the sad: the plot-centricity of the film had a bad effect on the artistic part. The camera camera here is just a way to monitor the actions of the characters. No, it's good, quick. Coupled with excellent acting in the reality of the world on the other side of the screen, there is no doubt. However, beautiful plans, interesting angles and camera game you will not see here.
Perhaps for this reason, 2 hours of viewing by internal sensations stretch by about 3.5.
It is worth noting that this is not Nolan, and therefore the emphasis on the principles of the effect and the “technical part” will not be at all. And yet, it smells like an American atmosphere, not cliched as in Westerns, but naturalistic. I watched the director's version with the original ending.
The picture is legendary, the plot is incredible. You should know (better alone, so as not to be distracted). Definitely
Very good movie. But strangely, last time I thought it ended a little differently: a little boy scolded a little girl at a birthday party. Or is there another similar movie? You can watch it!
This film is a rare case where literally everything depends on which version you come across. There are at least two alternative endings to The Butterfly Effect, one very pessimistic and the other neutrally positive. I will immediately dot all the “i”: the pessimistic version, in my opinion, does not withstand any criticism because of the terrible morality of “you can’t help anyone”, so I put it one on a ten-point scale. And the positive, in fact, is devoted to this review.
We can say that we have one of the variations of time travel, but not with the help of steampunk technique, but through psychophysical ... anomalies. The idea is not bad, here only the adult age rating is very spoiling the situation. To constantly look at nefarious, unbred characters who also smoke in their teens is quite unpleasant. Especially in those moments when stupid characters don’t understand Evan’s good intentions and start to resent from scratch. However, sometimes Evan himself goes too far. In fact, he condemns himself to all suffering because of a single mistake, because he was in a hurry. But I didn’t make anyone laugh.
Actors who take different incarnations are the main highlight of The Butterfly Effect, and perhaps first of all I want to praise Amy Smart, who even has a speaking surname (smart – “smart”). Kelly played by her is now at the very bottom of society, then “soars” on the backbone of happiness. Another “chameleon” is Elden Henson, which, if it causes criticism, is solely because of the script that he is forced to follow. Ashton Kutcher, who plays Evan, leaves his best impressions in two scenes when his character falls into despair, climbing into the bathroom and communicating with a fallen friend of life. Perhaps the character is specially shown relatively neutral to allow a very different audience to compare themselves with him.
Honestly, the title “The Butterfly Effect” doesn’t quite fit the film, as it focuses a bit on a different topic. Namely, the question of help, which one way or another needs every person on the path of life. And the fact that the film has two very different endings makes you wonder about the moral level of those who came up with a negative and depressing alternative ending. Fortunately, the rental version has become another, more joyful and fair, and this is somehow encouraging.
In general, bypassing the film one of the above endings, as well as some mentally “explosive” moments, I bet:

I very often came across rave reviews about this film, and now I finally got my hands on watching it.
The plot is that Evan has the ability to travel through time. He inherited it from his father. The protagonist tries to change some moments from his childhood to make his future different.
Directors Eric Bress and J. McKee Gruber very well depicted the theory of Chaos in film format. The main character tries to make a more desirable future for himself, while not realizing the full danger of such interventions. Everyone has something they want to change, but we are not Gods, we have no power over time, no matter how much we sometimes want to. I also liked how the directors came up with the idea of time travel. The idea itself is not new and there are a huge number of films about it. However, they managed to implement everything in such a way that you really begin to believe that this can and is actually happening.
Josh Hartnett, Sean William Scott and Joshua Jackson were also considered for the role of Evan, but I am glad that Ashton Kutcher was chosen. He did a great job as the main character. You can see that he merged with the image and did not leave it for a second. The viewer immerses himself in Evan’s story, begins to worry and sympathize with him. His ability is more a cross than a gift.
I also really liked the musical accompaniment. And at the end of the film plays the song "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" by my favorite band Oasis. All the soundtracks used in this film reflect its atmosphere and the state of the main character very well.
The film is very gloomy and really hard to understand. Constant transitions in time, changing reality, an abundance of scenes of violence, of which there are a lot. Honestly, for me, this is the main disadvantage of the film - I think that the directors overdo it. On the other hand, if the fate of the hero is not so tragic, would we be so impressed with his life and the main idea of the film?
It is worthwhile to appreciate the operator’s work. Here they really tried, because the viewer sees the film just through the eyes of the operator. So, if the movie is shot badly, the effect of viewing will be very small. There is no problem with this, immersion in the reality created by the directors occurs without any back thoughts.
This film has many options for the finale. There is a version for rental, there is a director's version. I tend to think the ending is open. Everyone will understand it as they want.
After watching the film, I learned to live in the present and understand that every action you take changes your reality and the reality of others. And to take the words back, turning back time is impossible. This movie I would not review, it is very difficult to perceive and extremely disgusting in terms of various scenes of violence. That's definitely not my thing. However, this film deserves to be appreciated. . .
It is said that even a small thing like the flapping of a butterfly’s wing can eventually cause a typhoon on the other side of the world.
Much has been written, much more has been said about Eric Bress and J. McKee Gruber’s The Butterfly Effect. I watched it twice, after the first time I did not even want to write a review, as I was very loaded after watching, but after the second viewing, I still found strength in myself, although it was also difficult to watch.
I will evaluate the film work by such criteria as the plot, acting, a little about the atmosphere and soundtrack.
Plot: A certain boy inherits his father’s disease, because of which the boy, having changed something in the past, can change the present without turning. The plot is as fresh and unusual as possible without any analogues. Honestly, after the first viewing, I was not able to fully load what happened on the screens in my head. This storyline, I'm sure, has become a model for other directors who film games over time in their films. Time is not some harmless toy that can be turned left and right without any negative or positive consequences for yourself. At the beginning of the film, we are shown a certain Theory of Chaos, after listening to which you really begin to wonder how time and the world in general is a complex thing that will never be completely subject to man. After such a refueling at the beginning of the story, you automatically expect a no less thoughtful and heavy plot. Fortunately, The Butterfly Effect lives up to your expectations, which is undoubtedly a big plus for the film. This is a very difficult story to understand, in which you need to think. Now films with such a storyline are very rare, since the mass viewer is not attracted to such a movie. Massive means up to 16 years. In addition, the film has several storylines, each of which, with each movement, reveals itself better and better. Such an unusual storytelling is a great advantage of this film. From the director’s point of view, the plot is built very qualitatively, there is a holistic structure, and there is a gradual disclosure of the storyline, thanks to which you do not have any questions by the end.
Poor and unhappy eternally promising Ashton Kutcher, who played the role of Evan, in this film played above any praise. Ashton Kutcher believed in the movie and invested in it with his own funds, this time he did not lose. It was a pity that the chuika let him down often, because of which he failed to become one of the leading faces of Hollywood. In this film, he was revealed to his psychology. These eternal diggings within him, reflections. All this together brought his hero in a very high-quality light. Modern filmmaking trends are not particularly bothered in the disclosure of heroes, but usually just shoot 3-hour films to at least slightly reveal the characters, and immediately reveal it turned out in 1 hour 50 minutes not only the heroes of the first plan, but also the second, real professionalism. Each actor who starred in the film completely merged with his hero. The acting was at the highest level for everyone. I do not see any point in listing all of them, as I do not fit into the limit of words for review. I just want to say that the characters of The Butterfly Effect were very colorful, full-fledged personalities. The emotional component was also at an unattainable level. It was obvious that the professionals of their field were filmed. In the end, I just want to point out that even children have played their roles better than some adult actors in a bunch of other movies. In short, the component of the drama was done at the highest level.
Soundtrack: The musical accompaniment was also very unusual. It was such a heavy and conscious melody. And this mood of the music track is introduced from the very beginning, when you quote Chaos Theory, which is the first or second minute of the film. Then the melody does not weaken, but continues to escalate and escalate. It gives its atmosphere, but it also complicates viewing and perception. This is not a minus, but what is not the real plus. There can be no fun music in this movie.
Atmosphere: The influence of the thriller in this criterion and in the criteria of the plot is felt very strongly. Every attempt to change the present by Evan introduces this kind of suspense, and you expect what happens next? What's going to happen now? Will it be bad or will it be good? Questions like this from the middle of the movie don’t leave your mind until the very last minute. The atmosphere in The Butterfly Effect is incredible. The film is very difficult to perceive, which is not the first time I have written in this review. Sometimes you get the feeling that you are watching a horror film, and not just fiction with elements of a thriller. This is a very atmospheric movie that keeps you on screen from the very first minute to the very last. This fact is very important for fiction, if not the most important. Here this criterion is above all praise.
Thus, the film of the genre of fiction with elements of the thriller “The Butterfly Effect” I really liked. In the description of the film there are three genres of fiction, thriller and drama, each of which during watching fully justifies itself. This is not a movie, this is not a movie to watch in the company of friends. This is a very heavy, deep film work that everyone must watch without outside noise and interference. The film has its own message, which says that time cannot be curbed. Everything in this universe is a chain that could not have come into being by itself and is someone else’s, and I believe in a divine genius idea. Even the flapping of a butterfly's wing can change a lot, because everything in this world is interconnected. This is a very fundamental topic that can be debated forever, and who will be right only after death. The film teaches you to some extent, saying that you need to do everything on time, otherwise you will regret it, and if you want to correct it, you will change something else greatly until the end of the world, because of which you need to use your time wisely and think about each step. I’m not putting nine, because nine for me, these are masterpieces of their genre. “The Butterfly Effect” is a brilliant movie, but I cannot call it the best in the genre, let alone a masterpiece. If I could give you an estimate of eight and a half, the rules of Kinopoisk do not allow you to rate movies by decimal fraction. I recommend a mandatory review. I hope my review was helpful. Thank you very much.
The main character Evan as a child experienced pedophile harassment, participated in the mutilation of people and the murder of a dog, and the origin was pumped - his father is a maniac. At critical moments, he forgot everything. Psychologists gave him a great help - they told him to write everything down in a diary. The guy grew up and reading the diary allowed him (suddenly) to change the past, which he did.
It is also good that the film was preceded by a reference to the theory of chaos, and then the logic in this nonsense would be hopeless to look for. Well, how to explain that with a scar, the heroine of Amy Smart became a dirty prostitute, and without it, just remembering about pedophile bullying, did a much more “fun” act? What motivated Evan's aggression that led him to prison? And the "cunning" plan with stigmata, which turned the schmo into an almost criminal authority? And the answer is simple: the butterfly effect, chaos theory, anything can happen. The finale is generally epic - and there is nothing, they say, to intersect with different women! So live and don't tweet - nothing depends on you. It seems that Bradbury had something else in mind - everyone's responsibility for their actions, which is the basis of causality. Maybe two directors had something similar in mind, but in the end came out with a good swing, but kaleidoscopic dope.
It is said that even a small thing like the flapping of a butterfly’s wing can eventually cause a typhoon across the world.
Chaos theory teaches us that small events can have huge consequences. The introductory title tells us that a butterfly flapping wings in Asia could lead to a hurricane on the other side of the world. Yes, though, given the number of butterflies and the determination with which they flap their wings, isn't it surprising how rare this happens? The Butterfly Effect applies this theory to the lives of four children whose early years are marred by tragedy. When one of them discovers that he can go back and make changes, he tries to improve the present by changing the past.
We are witnessing the story of the boy Evan, who suffers from memory lapses due to a rare mental illness. After each of Evan’s journeys, the future changed dramatically and it turned out that it did not lead to anything good.
The plot is a demonstration of acting talent, as the actors have to play characters who experience wild swings (even Evan's mom goes on a wild ride between good health and the door of death).
And there's a certain dark humour in the way the film illustrates the truth that you can make plans but you can't make results. Some of the futures that Ewen returns to are so seriously wrong from his point of view that he's lucky he doesn't.I just disappeared from the picture, being killed at 15, say, because of his intervention.
I liked the butterfly effect to some extent. That was too long before the end of the film. So many flashes back and forth, so many twists and turns of fate, so many chapters in magazines, that after a while I felt like I was being pulled like time.
“The task of art is to wipe our eyes.” – Karl Kraus
Cinema is art. It should contribute to the development of man, teach him to grow above himself, to see what the Creator saw and transmitted, to notice in the world the beautiful and necessary.
All these words can be attributed to the film “The Butterfly Effect”. I do not want to dwell on such topics as acting, cinematography, script, dialogue... All this happens naturally and flawlessly. Express an opinion here will help an excerpt from the poem Tyutchev:
“We are not allowed to predict,
How will our word respond?
How careless we are to our words, actions, do not think about their consequences for ourselves and others. The film clearly shows how our lives are closely intertwined with other lives, and sometimes the fate of many people depends on our decisions. They show how vulnerable children are to the injustice of life, how much is decided by adults and parents. How can the psyche be easily broken and someone’s life path be interrupted from a stupid antics?
Surprised by the abundance of options for the final, but the most vital, of course, official for hire. Of course, this is a subjective opinion.
After watching, as if there is an awakening and you become more attentive and careful, you notice the fragility and value of a person, you are more responsible for decisions and spoken words.
For the sake of looking at everything differently, it is recommended to watch.
The main hint of the plot is magnificent: at the moment there are an infinite number of variants of the present (parallel universes), between which the main character learned to switch, changing at a certain stage of his past one or another action.
Watched almost the whole family: 6, 8, 10, 16, 39 and 45 years. Surprisingly, children, including a six-year-old, couldn't get away from the screen. But, of course, there are a lot of useless and even nasty things for young children. For example, every almost 5 minutes you stumble over sex, dirty expressions and some human baseness. Involuntarily you think: is America really so low in its manners and such a perverted form of “freedom” that all the baseness of the human being flourishes there as in fertile soil? Or did the director make some kind of paint?
Essentially, if we distance ourselves from these basenesses and dark scenes, permeated with passions and meanness, the meaning of the film is, of course, bombastic.
Everyone sees their own, and we saw this: a single act in your life changes everything beyond recognition. This means that every moment of this very life should be as sensitive and attentive as possible to how you choose to act.
The acting is very natural, nothing in the film from this point of view hurts. The music is good at highlighting the right moments, it’s nice. The graphics are quite flawless and without brute force.
If it weren’t for the nauseating sensation of the extremely frequent scenes of prostitution and the so-called “free sex”, submitted by the dirty side (children definitely have some left subconscious suggestion, saying in the language of the characters: fuck with someone, got), then I would put 9 points out of 10.
A fat character with protruding hair and an earring in his nose and lip is unclear for what purposes he was introduced into the plot: either to enhance the vile sensation of this “cultural environment”, or for hype (in America they like them?), or for perverted tenderness. . .
Here's the wife adds: a search of scenes of child sexual intercourse and twisting the plot around pedophilia. She's a psychologist, and she says she's shown all the major sources of trauma that make lives twist.
Any decision we make at any point in our lives leads to an unpredictable chain of events. It's like the glass in a child's kaleidoscope: you turn one way, you make one picture, you turn another. But sometimes, no matter what, the picture is bad. Then perhaps we should stop, wait, think. Is it possible to make a decision of a radically different order?
10 out of 10
I watched the movie a long time ago. I apologize in advance if I have forgotten or misremembered any of the events of the film. I also watched the director's version, which is a darker and more logical ending, in my opinion. How else is the director's version different from the theatrical except for the ending, I don't know.
I will not dwell on the plot and events of the film. I really didn't like the movie. I'll try to explain why. The main claim to the film is the complete irresponsibility of the main character in his actions. He does two horrible things (from what I remember) that cost other people their lives. How does our hero react to a difficult situation? He runs away from her, flees from all responsibility for his actions. And in the process of escape, he commits the second of these acts, condemning another person to death. Now, answer the question: if the movie didn’t have a storyline with time travel, how would you feel about such a character? For some reason, it seems to me that then it would be a clear villain. I don’t see how this can be justified.
And all these time jumps are trying to fix things and do things differently. It reminds me of running away from problems. Yes, of course, we all have events in our lives that have affected us greatly and that we would have done differently if we had the opportunity. But man cannot live his life without making any mistakes, we are not perfect. We can only change ourselves and try not to make similar mistakes in the future. The main character’s attempts to change some events in the past, so that everything became as he would like in the present, look quite naive. At the same time, it is not noticeable that he himself drew any conclusions or changed for the better.
There is another point about time jumping. After the hero changed something in the past, there were changes, some of which he liked, and some did not. These changes affect the lives of others. This, as I understand it, is the main idea of the film that even small changes in the past can lead to unpredictable consequences in the future.
Now, why doesn't it work that way? When we talk about the butterfly effect in chaos theory, we are talking about the fact that in complex systems that depend on a large number of parameters, even small changes in these parameters can lead to a significant change in the behavior of the entire system. Therefore, in particular, it is not possible to particularly accurate weather forecast for any long periods of time.
But when it comes to people and their fates, there is one significant difference. A person has freedom of choice. Under the same conditions, the same person can behave in completely different ways. It all depends on his choice. It's not a physical system, and it's not a machine where you can switch the right tumblers and it's going to go on a given trajectory. Every day and hourly, if not every minute, we make a choice, and our lives depend primarily on it, and not on external events, albeit significant enough. A good example is the Gospel story of two robbers crucified on the right and left hand of Christ. Two people are in exactly the same situation. One of them went to heaven and the other to hell. And it happened not because of some events in their past, but because of their own choice in a very short period of time.
So, as I said, all these attempts in the film to twist something in the past to change the present look naive and deny the free choice of the person. Does the fate of other people in the film depend only on the fact that the main character has changed something in the past? Are they soulless puppets?
The same, in my opinion, applies to Bradbury’s story “And Thunder Shooted,” which gave the film its title. The idea that everything can radically change from the fact that once a long time ago one person crushed a butterfly, sounds, of course, beautiful, but it is completely unrealistic.
The bleak ending of the director’s version, I think, is the logical conclusion of the film. I just don't see any nobility in her. And still running from trouble. If I can not make everything as I want with the help of some magical manipulations, then let it not be better in any way.

The boy Evan took over from his father, a psychopath - he has memory lapses, and when he comes to himself, it turns out that he could do a lot of trouble. The doctor advises him to write down in his diary every day, describing the events that occurred - Evan follows the advice and tells himself on paper everything that happens to him. A few years later, Evan (Ashtan Kutcher) is already in college and one day stumbles upon long-forgotten diaries. Re-reading them, he returns to his childhood in his memories and with horror realizes what happened once and what he forgot. Realizing that he can use diaries to go back in time, Evan changes events, but according to The Butterfly Effect, even a minor shake-up of the past leads to a dramatic change in the present.
Curved around Chaos Theory and one of its offshoots is the Butterfly Effect, according to which a small impact on the system can have large and unpredictable consequences, including in a completely different place. A butterfly’s wing flapping is based on the fact that if it happens in one place on the planet, will it cause any changes somewhere else on Earth? The theory is actually very entertaining and difficult to study, especially since the starting point (flapping the wings of a butterfly) can take any insignificant event - raindrops on the pavement or, for example, the birth of not one, but three kittens at once.
About the same topic and using the Theory of Chaos, the plot of another cool thriller develops - "Chaos" with Jason Stetham and Wesley Snipes. There is the idea that unrelated events lead to one whole. In the case of the Butterfly Effect, everything is somewhat different, because one of the changed events changes the entire future, sweeping away everything that would have happened if the past had not been changed. Kutcher’s hero is faced with just this, experiencing a lot of memories that would be enough for several of his lives. There is another wonderful film – “Mr. Nobody”, which also tells about the Butterfly Effect – how would the hero’s life turn out if he went to the right and not to the left, if he remained with his father and not with his mother, if he were friends with one girl and not with another or with a third?
Again, the idea is very entertaining, and if you approach it carefully and think through the details, you will get a very fascinating spectacle. In the case of “The Butterfly Effect” it happened, because the main character was forced to face not only his strange illness and the ability to change the past for the sake of the future, but also to make choices, guided either by selfish motives (as in the case of transferring the acute gland to his friend) or good intentions (his last visit to the past). The finale of the film is not that shocking, probably - the only possible and correct way out of the situation in which everyone who was at least somehow connected with Evan finds himself.
Amy Smart, who played the main female role in this film, at that time was if not at the peak of its popularity (still the actress and before “The Butterfly Effect”, and after it actively starred in films), it was very popular. After the “Student Team”, “Road Adventure”, “Road 60” and “Rat Races” was followed by a role in The Butterfly Effect, after which Smart could be seen in “Mirrors”, the dilogy “Adrenaline” and “Starsky and Hutch”. A charming blonde with a graceful figure and very expressive eyes became one of the main decorations of this film, equally well playing her character depending on the changing reality.
Yet Kutcher in comparison with her was not so expressive, and his play sometimes somewhat did not correspond to the drama of the moment.
Despite the fact that the film has two sequels – the first part is the coolest. The second - almost without new plot variations duplicates the story with a return to the past, and the third, although it expands the possibilities of "The Butterfly Effect", still does not impress with its implementation.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
The beginning of the story about how terrible adults and their children are, immediately disposes and prepares the viewer for the fact that he is waiting for a film filled with philosophical fabrications and “evasions”. Especially when the concept of time comes into play (on which, in fact, the plot is built).
But again, the perennial problem of American (mostly) cinema is that while trying to create such pictures, important details are constantly missed. Details that raise a lot of questions during viewing. But questions are not philosophical, but exclusively psychological, which are misleading and leave no answers at all. What is even more disappointing is that they do not allow us to understand the characters, their actions and motivations. Subsequently, there is a feeling that the directors wanted to “push” into the almost two-hour timekeeping an interesting (whatever it might be) story, but on the way lost such an element as logic. The element is important and almost justified at the expense of paedophile fathers and psychopaths.
But such a platform and a script could serve as a very, very strong work. Perhaps if someone else, more adapted to such a genre as psychological drama (albeit with elements of fiction), would risk taking up this case. Ashton Kutcher with his “sweet” appearance and the collective farm Amy Smart only load the already “leaky ship”. She was waiting for some “black” or stupid and “nude” humor. But thanks for that too.
You can say (and they said) that the authors of the film relied on Ray Bradbury and his “And Thunder Shooted”, but it seems to me that they rather read Stephen King.
What Stephen King adores is evil, evil teenagers. They have become such clichés that many readers (and viewers) find it difficult to take them seriously from the "king of horrors." "It," "Sometimes They Come Back," "Children of the Corn," "Bite Teeth," "Fury," "Body" are just the ones I've read - in every piece there are evil teenagers who are all like one tracing each other. They're not curious characters, they're not dramatic characters, they're just angry teenagers. Caricatureally evil, the same and necessary as negative characters. And so they march from one King creation to another. A whole company of evil teenage clones. Even then, personally, I was tired of them. Even then they were a meaningless stamp of the writer, who apparently put something personal into them, because they did evil for nothing, without explanation.
And here is The Butterfly Effect, where the weakest and most irritating spot is the angry teenager. So fake and stamped that the emotional connection with the film is lost. He just tears her up with his presence, because he manages to get bored as soon as he appears. It's like the authors say hello to Stephen King. And it seems that a good story has been written and thought out, in which many of the most important conditions that must be taken into account are intertwined, and each time it becomes more and more difficult to do this. But... an angry teenager? All these crazy gangster teenagers in jackets had to live out their century on the pages of King and in his film adaptations, too much he did. Why put it in a movie? And also in the performance of some plump boy who plays his hero too obsessively. After all, you could think of something different than this mothball image.
I thought the movie was easy, not for adults. Yes, there is pedophilia, murder, cancer, drug addiction and prostitution, but I saw a version of Back to the Future only tougher. The authors divide everything into black and white. If something bad is going to happen, so to the fullest. If it is good, it is on the principle that the best is the enemy of the good. Therefore, these transformations into a drug addict or a pathetic leader of the student community - all this also sounds false. It was like writing a script by a teenager for whom the best thing to do is to purge newcomers, and the worst thing to do is to be a hooker. Therefore, the illustrations are so monotonous. The author remembered everything that his mother told him, what would happen to him if he did not study, and took all this into the film: drug addiction, mental hospital, prison. Either it's bad or it's okay. If a person is bad, then an angry teenager, and if he is not an angry teenager, then a pious smiley babysitter. That is, the authors simply poke in the face of the viewer some hyperbolized characterization of the hero, so that even the most stupid understand: “Oh, he’s bad.” Or, "Oh, he's definitely good." It's like there can never be anything in between, no matter the conditions.
In general, alas, I did not have an opinion about the film as an appropriate assessment. The idea was chosen and painted good, but not subtly, crudely, stuffing clichéd images into the script, dividing human life and fate into two parts: only good and only bad, while being too carried away by the second. This is why there is unbelief.
Everyone at least once dreamed of going back to their past and changing certain moments. Such thoughts most often come to mind before going to bed: “What if I had acted differently?” .
This explains, to some extent, the interest of many people in time jump movies. Remember at least the success of the painting “Back to the Future” and you will understand everything.
The butterfly effect is on the same topic, but much deeper and more complex.
The idea of the picture is wonderful and very interesting. Just one quote from the Chaos Theory makes you immerse yourself in endless reflections and imagine everything by your example.
The second positive side of the film is the presentation of history. It's a vignette that's shown in the beginning. A bunch of scenes, the connection thread of which is almost transparent and only from the middle of the picture pieces of the puzzle begin to fold. However, the staging of scenes makes such a move a minus.
Then there's more downsides. Actors and heroes. Very weak. Kutcher more comedic actor and in this picture stands out from the general tone. He shows a well-worn student convincingly, there is no dispute, thick hair and style of zero (wide pants with loose shirts) suit him, but the film is not about students.
Smart also poorly understands why she is here, and her character is shown unconvincingly, especially the adult version, the main love line because of this comes to naught.
About the rest just want to be silent, it feels like they shot everything with one take.
It turns out that you can praise only children, but their roles are short.
I want to say more about the character Tampera, which was played by Sapli (in those years he was still fat). Why is he here? To create the atmosphere of a student hostel? It was just disgust, nothing more.
Further, the minuses will get lame plot, which very much spoils the idea of the film with many logical blunders. But let's not throw spoilers.
The ending is weak and illogical, the feeling that the creators ran out of inspiration or tightened deadlines and decided to crumple everything up and finish quickly. And that's fine.
Bottom line: this is a movie with very interesting ideas, which more or less closes the wretched acting and logical blunders. If you like to scratch your head or you like Interstellar (the films are a bit similar), I advise you to watch.
“The flapping of the wings of a butterfly in Brazil will cause a tornado in Texas,” Edward Lorenz
As the theory and practice of scientists studying some chaotic systems prove, even a slight influence on a particular segment can cause uncontrollable consequences in another place and even time. This assumption received the designation “The Butterfly Effect” and became widespread thanks to the famous scientist Edward Lorenz, who built the most famous canons of the theory. In turn, the research and statements of Lorentz found their reflection in the story of Ray Bradbury “And thunder broke out”, in which the main narrative was set in motion thanks to a mere trifle, which has catastrophic consequences for all things. Many researchers, focusing on everyday practice, inextricably linked with the current period of life of society, excluding assumptions and fantasies, consider the works of Edward Lorentz not saturating the attention of fairy tales, which, although proved by quite real research, but have no direct action right here and now. However, the obscurantism of some scientific minds does not mean that all our actions and actions do not cause the “butterfly effect”. Sometimes we do not even realize that even a trifle has the ability to turn into something big, unpredictable, perhaps enthusiastic, or vice versa terrible. The works of Edward Lorenz in all their glory describe the non-randomness of premises and consequences, becoming one of the fundamental pillars of science fiction. Passionate creators, trying to bring a particle of scientific balance to their entertainment works, repeatedly appealed to the legacy of Lorentz, but only in 2003 the most memorable picture based on the ideas of the Butterfly Effect appeared on the screens and quite naturally received a similar designation.
So, the plot of the film introduces us to the student Evan Traborn (Ashton Kutcher), making very tangible progress in the field of psychology. Possessing charisma and attractive appearance, Evan does not lack communication, always being in the company of friends and girls who do not mind spending the night with an intelligent handsome man. Evan himself is not averse to taking advantage of the situation, considering himself a real pamper of fate, but there are too many secrets in his past that his mind has decided to forget. In his distant childhood, suffering from short-term memory loss, the hero tried to write down in his diary all the main events that happened to him during the day. The recommendations of the attending physician eventually had a therapeutic effect, and stepping into a more mature age, Evan was able to recover from a specific ailment. And despite the fact that some of his childhood memories were erased from his head as if by a magic wand, he felt absolutely nostalgia for the past. Until another return to the diaries that interested his girlfriend. Opening the book on a free page, Evan began to read his own memories and suddenly realized that he had traveled back in time. Namely, the hour preceding the immediate events described on the page. Having hardly realized what happened, Evan decides to use the gift of fate and change part of his biography, not forgetting about the best friends of his childhood. But interference in history does not bring unambiguous joy to either Evan or his entourage, since the already held time period is in no hurry to give an uninvited traveler easy ways to accomplish all his ideas.
The creators of The Butterfly Effect did not intend to build a serious scientific base around their film, directly borrowing the ideas of Edward Lorentz and other researchers of chaotic systems, leaving this work to science fiction writers and pseudo-scientific television broadcasters. Taking into account the main idea of The Butterfly Effect, Eric Bress and J. McKee Gruber built a fascinating entertainment spectacle on it, bearing the features of a unique temporary journey and intense drama that makes the heart beat much more often than the norm released to it. Together with the main character, we make a series of leaps into the past in order to then return to the present and find out what has changed in history this time. The past, the present and even the future are always in motion. One action overlaps all the others and leads to unprecedented consequences, which is why Evan has to seriously scratch his head, because all his actions lead to a result that he a priori cannot satisfy. Measuring his own fate, in parallel with this he breaks the life of his neighbors, if he does not take it at all. Of course, in Bress and Gruber’s The Butterfly Effect, all these assumptions are presented as simply and clearly as possible, but the film cannot be called an unburdensome dummy. He knows how to surprise, keep us in constant tension and frighten us. And watching as Evan again and again goes into battle with time and his own brain, involuntarily let go of any claims to logic, as the screen unfolds a serious intrigue that requires maximum attention. The authors offer us several completely different options for the development of events, but the message remains always the same: any detail plays a role and if you overlook it, then be irreparable trouble. In fact, Lorenz talked about this in all his works, and if you want to learn more about the scientific aspect of the Butterfly Effect, you always have at your disposal vast materials on this study located on the Internet.
One of the biggest risks associated with the film was the invitation to the lead role of a young Ashton Kutcher, who proved himself among critics and thoughtful audiences from far from the best side. Taking part in the filming of such dubious, albeit funny, comedies as “Where is my car, man?”, Kutcher has established himself as a cute, but stupid and primitive actor whose only purpose is to attract the attention of a dreamy teenage audience. Kutcher himself, after a number of frankly specific roles, was tired of being a bad clown on public display, from which he saw a good opportunity to change his attitude in The Butterfly Effect. And it is worth admitting that the guy, recently scouring in search of a machine and destroying the alien conspiracy, managed to recreate a deep and multifaceted image, which few expected from him. Having studied the psychological background of Evan Traborn with the meticulousness of an excellent student, the actor completely abandoned the signature comedy smiles, managed to cover the involuntarily opening mouth and gave the full range of emotions raging in the consciousness of his unusual character. Maybe Kutcher lacked the dramatic skill to hit the demanding audience to the core, but for him, participation in “The Butterfly Effect” was already a serious progress, which should be applauded standing up!
In the end, I want to say that “The Butterfly Effect” despite its emphasis on entertainment, was incredibly intriguing and not stupid film. Eric Bress and J. McKee Gruber, who previously created an excellent sequel to Destination, were able to invent and clearly show an eventful story, trying to exclude sharp logical blunders. Perhaps “The Butterfly Effect” could become the basis for a much more dramatic, philosophical work, but for the general audience for which the film was intended, the findings of Bress and Gruber came in handy. And I wish you only the most exciting view.
Directors and writers of this film Eric Bress and J. Mackie Gruber, people little known and throughout his career made only this film. Few people thought that two debutants could produce a truly meaningful piece. However, they managed to find the right moment to release their tape. A focus on youth audiences has done its job. The film gained a cult status among young people. However, it was highly regarded by professional critics. In any case, the picture became a notable event in 2004.
The plot of the film is based on the concept of the butterfly effect from chaos theory. Which was popularized by Ray Bradbury in his cult literary work "And thunder broke out". The film about how our actions can affect the causal relationship between the past and the future, along with other topics. There is a place for domestic violence, and family relationships, and freedom of choice, and responsibility for actions. But the lack of directorial experience affects, because of which the logic of the narrative suffers. When I watched the movie as a teenager, it made a strong impression. But reviewing the tape now, its shortcomings are striking.
It's a youth fantasy thriller. But it does not manage to be a serious drama, as the authors wanted. There is also a complete lack of depth. And the lack of philosophy, does not allow the film to become on the same level as other sci-fi films. Although here the word scientific and completely unnecessary. The picture leaves no questions, does not force to analyze the events taking place and does not give rich food for thought. That's a big drawback. The film has several endings, the director's version leaves the strongest impression. But she shocked the audience at the previews and was replaced. The plot is confusing, but the ending puts all the pieces of the mosaic into a single whole.
Since the budget of the film is small, you should not expect any exciting special effects. But the technical part of this does not suffer much, the tape is shot surprisingly qualitatively. Operator work and musical accompaniment are at the highest level and make a significant contribution to the atmosphere of the film.
Ashton Kutcher is a young actor who made a name for himself on goofy comedies. With this role, he decided to perform in a new role as a dramatic performer. The experiment was successful, his work was highly appreciated by the public. Amy Smart gave a very strong emotional role, revealing herself as a talented actress. In general, the performance of young actors deserves praise.
The Butterfly Effect is a very inventive and original fantasy thriller. With a focus on the youth audience. Good acting work, non-standard plot and a cool soundtrack make the picture an interesting option for viewing. This is a good movie that lacks depth.
I had a dual impression of the film because I first read James Swallow’s novel The Butterfly Effect. So it is customary for me to read the book first, and then watch the film adaptation. But later it turned out that in this case I went from the opposite, because the book is a novelization (the process of reverse adaptation) of a film written by Gruber and Bress. That is, first they made a film, and then writer James Swallow created a fiction book from the script. It turned out a good quality novel using many spectacular techniques such as: a first-person story, which turns into a description of the life of the main character from the third person with inserts of a vision of events from the perspective of secondary characters. But the novel is a complex thing, full of emotions, suffering, aspirations of the characters, and the film is a two-dimensional thing almost flat and there are very few actors in the world who are able to make their characters three-dimensional, to show the range of complex emotions that in our heads create just simple lines on paper. And here comes the same duality of impressions. On the one hand, you understand the emotion a character must have felt when watching a game from a book, but the actor couldn’t portray it. What if you first watched the movie and then read the book? Then already created cinema images are complemented by their experiences and thoughts. What if you first read a good book, then watched a movie, and only then learned that the original source was the film, and then the creation of the book? Personally, I'm confused. But there was only one clear feeling: the book turned out better than the movie!
But that's not all the confusion. There are two versions of the film: directorial and official. There were even more scenarios: four. And each has a different ending. I was unlucky, in the sense that it was even more confusing, as I chose the director’s version with the most unfortunate ending to watch first. It was a great book, because there was another book. It’s the weirdest thing in cinema I’ve ever seen. It's even worse than open finals. But on the other hand, you can choose the ending to your taste.
Whichever way you choose to get acquainted with this story, the chronological part of the events is unchanged and unambiguous. If the classic plots of the life of the main character is divided into before and after, the life of Evan (the main character of “The Butterfly Effect”) is divided into pieces constantly. It turns into many alternative lines of events, but it is impossible to see any expediency. He doesn’t want to achieve one thing, like saving Crocket (Evan’s dog) or being happy with Kaylie. It always replaces one alternative with another. And none of them satisfy it, you can always improve something. So I don’t know how I feel about this story. From a technical point of view, the plot is verified and flawless. From the point of view of the characters and their actions and how easily their lives are changed by one small change, I want to shout and insist that the heroes themselves are to blame, they choose to become hostages of circumstances. And I have every reason to say that. What do you tell me that a person does not affect his life? What kind of person does chance make a choice? As a child, fate decides for us, and then not. Then we make our own choices: to work as a waitress at a gas station and commit suicide or become a prostitute; to devote ourselves to science or to care for a girl with whom we have been in love since childhood. But this is just a discussion on the subject. In fact, the writers made all the characters (Evan, Kaylie, Tommy and Lenny) too unhealthy to fight for happiness - Evan suffers from memory lapses, Kaylie had a psychological trauma as a child (father of a paedophile), Tommy is the son of a sadistic pervert father, Lenny has complexes due to appearance and a tendency to seizures. Therefore, the laws of change that occur in the fates of the heroes when the circumstances of the past change, both in the good direction and in the bad one cannot be turned away. In this sense, the film is brilliantly designed and thought out perfectly. Enjoy it!
The Butterfly Effect is not just a movie, it’s a thriller. In which it is as if we influence the plot together with the hero, opening the veil of new memories. Complementing them and expanding the range of dangers around the protagonist.
The movie really looks amazing. I would certainly like to warn teenagers and women with a weak mind not to look at the picture. But I don't think anyone will listen to me. The film is frightening with its inhumanity and inability to change anything. There are two endings, and I personally like the director's version more than the people.
Play actors average, but Ashton Kutcher One of the favorite actors, remembered just for The Butterfly Effect, Steve Jobs, Once in Vegas. I’ve watched this movie several times (about 5). And every time I was amazed at the cruelty and the incredibleness of the events. Perhaps the reason that the revision of this picture does not cause boredom is that with each new viewing you notice some additional detail, the look of the character, some new emotion.
The film sags slightly towards the middle. However, I consider him the best of these films. Here and next is not weak on the dynamics of events Donnie Darko (however Jake Gyllenhaal was also filmed in a good on this topic Source code), and Destination point too pop. I recommend the film to watch it is really beautiful (as beautiful a thriller can be), along with Fincher’s creations. In the movie episode, teenagers watch the film FincherSeven, there is a kind of metaphor here. The sign is full of comedy with Jim Carrey Dumb and Dumber, but the children go to the thriller Seven. We are not watching a children’s movie.
Perhaps it is a bad habit to read unflattering reviews of film critics about the film before watching it. So, it’s worth noting that I had a higher expectation before reviewing the critics. But then I started to have some doubts.
With “The Butterfly Effect” I had this story: after reading the abstract, and then looking at the reviews of film critics, I doubted that the film would be worth it. I personally have this tendency in relation to the evaluation of films – if the rating of users is good (7 or more), it means, as they say, that “the people swallowed” and the average person will have to taste. But the rating of film critics usually says, as a rule, whether the film has at least some sense.
In general, it is worth noting the 2000s - a period in which not the best American cinema was shot, a la comedy films for teenagers about love, slashers in the spirit of the film "Scream" and the like. In other words, a movie designed for the masses. Yeah, I saw it once, and I forgot. But “The Butterfly Effect” is that film of the era of mass American cinema that tried to become little more than a passing one. But it was “tried” because nothing really worked. Absolutely nothing in this film claims to be meaningful or philosophical. There are a lot of errors in the tape, but the logic and sequence of actions should be flawless in films of such subjects. I am not the most attentive viewer, so it seems to me that the incidents in this picture are just like a huge ketchup stain on a white T-shirt.
On the visual side, a big minus - the film does not "tighten" the picture. The cameraman, excuse me, is bad, takes actors from not the most profitable angles. And, of course, as for the actors themselves, there is a mistake. The worst of all, unfortunately, plays the role of the main character. Whatever happened, his facial expression remained the same: a kind of frightened, confused look of a man who does not understand what is happening to him.
And, if you judge that, “The Butterfly Effect” is even worse than all these stupid, but rather cute American films of the 2000s because of its excessive vulgarity, bombast and simply idiocy.
This is my opinion and I do not want to impose anything. However, I do not recommend watching and I will only say that sometimes, when the rating of “critics / people” varies greatly, it is worth thinking about whether this creation deserves its laurels.

If you still decide to watch this film, then you do not need to bother to closely monitor the course of events in it. Do not look for meaning where it is not.
I’ll say right away that after watching the film, I had a pleasant impression, but I won’t praise this film. Because after a few minutes, I realized that the film was not the best, and my pleasant impression was due to the fact that I forgave too much in the course of the film. The pleasant impression disappeared when I realized that I had forgiven the film too much, so it does not deserve high marks.
The plot is simple. The main character Evan has the opportunity to return to some moments of his past and change them. Returning to the present, the hero finds himself in a new reality that has changed and become worse.
The actors are neither good nor bad. But it’s not a movie that requires a good game. The film takes its plot, its idea, which, unfortunately, is not very well implemented. But I will not write about these shortcomings, because it is better not to know them before watching the film.
The Butterfly Effect is a film that will be interesting and even useful for teenagers. But for me too clearly visible some roughness of the picture, which greatly interfere with enjoying the film.

The eternally young and ineradicably popular theme of time travel, in addition to feeding fantasy as a constant immaterial quantity, is based on the natural self-criticism of man. Jokingly or seriously, but obviously each of us after admitting a mistake convinced himself that he could (and should) have done otherwise. At the decisive moment, he said, he was stupid, and now he became smarter and realized everything. Not life, but a continuous carnival would reign in this case: he did not like it, moved and corrected it. If you are lucky, then such “slips” will not become a habit. Only fate is not a manufacturer: it does not put quality stamps, it does not write out guarantees for the best outcome, and it is good if a brave traveler along the space-time continuum does not simultaneously break all the good that he managed to make.
For years, feelings are unknown, and the hype around “The Butterfly Effect” has long weathered, and thanks to cretin sequels, hardly any of the respected filmmakers will want to return to this topic. The movie looked like a bottle of champagne. A pleasant sweetish taste is still available, but the bubbles with gas have already evaporated, taking pleasure. And all because nothing particularly unique in the picture was initially. Many have fought the temporary prominences in a similar way, from Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap to the odious tycoon from Dallas or the textbook double from Simple Truths. In each case, as you can guess, the multiplying troubles from the feverishly reconstructed past systematically extinguished the excitement of playing with the almighty mistress-fate. As if on a racing track full of dangerous turns, all participants sooner or later admitted their defeat, but the hero of Ashton Kutcher was the most stubborn among the brothers in terms of capabilities.
Thanks to the feverishly gleaming eyes of a disheveled, unshaven guy, anyone can be identified in him: at least a stereotypical patient of a psychiatric hospital, even a fabulous Aladdin. The Arab boy did not immediately find a way to respond to the jinn’s request to announce three wishes, and his life was also insipid. However, Evan Treborn, armed with his own diaries with nervously written pages, is much more unhappy than Aladdin, for he has no one to consult. You have to constantly try, make mistakes, hope and continue in circles. And given the unfunny consequences of its seemingly good transformations, “The Butterfly Effect” can be considered almost a horror film. The inability to put your own life in order and watching how loved ones are increasingly distant from you - destroy the psyche steeper than electroshock therapy. And with both “methods of treatment” it is impossible to get to the idea that not everyone can play the role of Atlanta, able to withstand the firmament of circumstances.
The impression produced by the film almost inevitably provokes a cascade of reasoning about the importance of personal memories. There are always those who mercilessly burn the soul with a red-hot poker, and all do not want to be erased. Our life is often a chain of mistakes, some of which we have already comprehended, and the rest are yet to come. The desire to go back to the past and somewhere in it to swing to the right instead of to the left, to move back instead of forward is as natural as the dream of unearthly happiness. But looking at Evan’s two-hour ordeal, it’s hard not to think about the level of human capabilities and what kind of sieve life would become if we all became gods – conquerors of time. Belief in the future is often the last thing that remains intact, it does not allow you to finally come to terms with the unfortunate situation and pushes you to try to fix something. But perhaps it is better sometimes to just accept and let go of yourself, no matter how difficult this choice may be. Such a variety of endings of the film shows the polyvariance of the development of events, as each of us is able to enthusiastically fantasize, sinking deeper into the abyss of pessimism.
“The Butterfly Effect” can hardly be called a life-affirming picture, and as it now becomes clear, in an irreconcilable battle with cynical time, it has no favorite status. Well, this is logical, but regardless of our preferences, history still turns in a spiral: today something seems familiar and boring, and tomorrow it may appear fresh and new. Every day is unique and generous to discoveries, if only you want to see and recognize them. The film’s strict adherence to scientific theories is no doubt good for it. The picture inevitably loses the effect of revolutionaryness, but is transformed into something no less interesting. The drama of the life of a person endowed with a gift, it is easy to try on yourself to notice literally behind your back what previously did not worry. It's okay to make mistakes. It is much worse to fear them, for out of fear the helper is evil. It is better to put in your pocket a trickster-hope before you are going to change something. And in this case, the flapping of the wings of the butterfly will not bring serious consequences.
I’m going to talk about my favorite movie. Without exaggeration, I have watched this masterpiece of cinema in total about 10 times. What is remarkable is that I am not tired of reviewing it. The film is based on an interesting theory with the same name. Its essence is that even such a small thing as the flap of a butterfly's wing can cause a typhoon on the other side of the world.
Evan since childhood suffers from memory lapses, he can not remember some events of his life. Over time, lapses in memory cease to bother him, and the main character gradually forgets about them. He grows up and goes to university to study psychology. After a while, Evan discovers an amazing ability. Reading the diaries he wrote as a child, the guy can return to those distant events and change the future with his actions.
The Butterfly Effect has an unusual genre. It combines psychological drama, fiction and thriller. Because of this, the tape looks in one breath. I've always been attracted to manipulation and games over time. But the way it's done here is beyond praise. Another undoubted plus is the fact that the picture makes the viewer think about the next plot twist. As a result, you don’t turn off the story throughout the story.
Atmosphere. This movie is a rather depressing drama with elements of fiction. Once you see how many scenarios are shown in the film, you will begin to take situations more seriously. In general, the picture teaches a lot and makes you fall into philosophical reasoning. For example, many things may not go according to plan or not as we imagined in our heads. Trying to fix something can only make things worse... etc. In general, the tape will give you thoughts for the near future. It is noteworthy that the film as much as 4 endings, which in itself is logical and looks very convenient.
Game of actors. I was impressed with the acting. Both the main and secondary characters are alive and real. Their logic, motives and actions are always clear and understandable. This is a very important point, because many paintings suffer from some ambiguity and inconsistency. First of all, I would like to highlight Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart. This duo struck me with their playfulness and emotions. After watching this drama, these actors were among my favorites. I also want to say some words of gratitude to the guys who played four friends in childhood, and makeup artists. Such bright and distinctive images of characters in different realities are the merit of a team of makeup artists and makeup artists.
Music. A great selection of songs. I will highlight the most favorite tracks: AP2 - "Heroin Hate", Jimmy Eat World - "Hear You Me", The Chemical Brothers - "My Elastic Eye"Even Rude - "When Animals Attack", and, of course, Oasis - "Stop Cing Your Heart" can only be heard in the film version. Instrumental music in the tape is real magic. It helps to impress both individual episodes and the whole drama. So Mike Sabi, a low bow to you.
Result. Amazing, extraordinary, outstanding film. In all respects, he is the best in his genre for me. I advise everyone to read this masterpiece. At the same time, I strongly recommend watching the director's version first, and then the theatrical version.
