Once cinema was more melodic, naturalistic (without comp. graphics), much more spiritual. Why is that? Because we watched it younger, much less sophisticated and more greedy before it. Today we easily turn our nose from the movie: I didn’t like one, so there are a thousand on the doorstep. When the movie was smaller, we valued it much more, especially without the movie substitutes in the form of YouTube and his like comrades and commodity owners.
Our film is fun and non-trivial even for our time, not just for its time. Just say that almost at the beginning there is a scene in the elevator, where the shaman takes a person by the nose with his fingers. Where's the logic and what? What is it? Try to get in the elevator today and grab a person with two fingers by the nose! You'll lose your nose. But our hero behaved calmly and non-trivially... maybe because he is a hardened Frenchman?
In general, one "hardened Frenchman" met with a native Indian and for some magical thing of beliefs and because of a debt to dangerous people went in search of something otherworldly or a soul, hiding from the repayment of debt. It is much more interesting for me to catch a glimpse of the surroundings of the picture: cars of a bygone era, clothes, buildings, etc., although in the end we still go to the jungle. The jungle has not changed for centuries or millennia. But you can also walk through the jungle. Many of us have rarely been there.
And here lit up in addition to the famous "Leon" the same "Machete" if anyone is interested. There are generally notable actors, even those who became famous recently in Western TV series.

In general, I like to travel to movies. Especially in the jungle, with rafts on the river. After all, in reality, such a trip is fraught with meetings with mosquitoes and larger animals, and so you look at the picture, and then you fall asleep in your bed, and not unclear where for thirty lands. Although the mosquitoes ... already several of their likenesses sat on the monitor, I press them. Oh! One more... and a few more... and more. Yeah, mosquitoes are more fun to watch.
In the French adventure film “Jaguar”, two interpenetrating thematic streams are played out:
1) the degree of human genetic predisposition to life in natural (to varying degrees primitive) conditions;
(2) the hidden physical, mental, and perhaps even spiritual qualities of the individual.
Humanity is known to be divided into two main categories: children of nature (such as the plain Indian Vanu) and children of civilization (some of the characters in the film). The children of nature, in turn, are divided into people who are directly in contact with nature (wild tribes, villagers, forest, desert and mountain hermits, etc.) and those who can only dream of forests and fields (the so-called urban romantics who, at the first opportunity, go beyond their settlements). As for the children of civilization, their typological classification is identical to the first category - those who rotate in the urban cycle and those who cherish the dream about it.
But there is a third, the most interesting, category – intermediate, whose representatives combine the characteristics of both the first and the second (the hero of Jean Renault); as well as people who have a craving for something natural or, on the contrary, artificial muffled by the existing environment (for example, the spoiled catcher of dishonest enrichment François Perrin).
Next. Why did Van turn to Perrin for help? Yes, because Perrin, next to his materialistic worldview, greed, cowardice and small spiritual impulses, concealed undiscovered natural talents - endurance, courage, dedication, etc., which could not find themselves in the artificial conditions of the modern metropolis. The Indian saw it through the eyes of the soul.
The mediator between Vanou and François Perrin is a man, experienced in numerous hikes through the impassable jungle and bitten by all the slaves and unknown creatures - Jean Campana (Jean Reno). His goal is to help the chosen one navigate in unusual conditions for him and, accordingly, show him who he really is. . .
Thus, people sometimes do not know what they are capable of and what their true nature is. Usually enlightenment or something like that comes after some unpleasant life cataclysm. But some give a chance to direct their lives in the right direction, and others do not. And here everything depends on whether a person is worthy of insight or not. After all, this gift is not given simply, it must be earned. In the film 'Jaguar' this is stated with sufficient clarity.
“Jaguar” is an adventure, comedy action movie by the famous and talented, French director and screenwriter Francis Weber in 1996. This cult film turned out to be a wonderful, French, cinematic gift, having value and its extraordinary history. The film is wonderful, and it is already a classic of French cinema. I have loved this picture since childhood, and recently I revisited it with pleasure.
We see a history of spiritual friendship between an Indian and an ordinary Frenchman. The Indian felt in the French fortitude and goodness and rewarded him with his spiritual strength through magic. We see an unforgettable, amazing journey of heroes in the thicket of the Amazon to save the soul of a sweet Indian.
The film leaves only positive emotions, and to this day remains a wonderful, clean film that you want to show someone. This action adventure is rich and informative, it is ironic and touching. There is a lot in it, and not to see it means to lose a lot.
The cast was pleasant, so this picture was immediately interesting to watch. Jean Reno is a talented, French actor and a real man. He’s been in a lot of great movies and it was nice to see him in this movie. Jean Renaud is one of the most prominent actors in French cinema, and he always plays convincingly, reservedly and talentedly. Patrick Bruel played the main role in this picture, and his character is a funny and multifaceted person, but he was chosen by an Indian and immediately this hero attracted attention. Bruel also played well and many scenes were very funny. In the role of a nice girl it was nice to see a young Patricia Velazquez. She's an interesting actress, and I fell in love with her after the Mummy movies. Well, Danny Trejo always played a negative role. He is always perfect for such roles. As for the Harrison Lowe Indian, he was so wonderful and seemed so defenseless. "Jaguar" is a beautiful and wonderful film, and everyone should see it. The film was made with dignity and interest.
Francis Weber is an iconic figure in French and European cinema in general. Judge for yourself: he opened a wonderful duet of French actors Pierre Richard and Gerard Depardieu, shooting them together in three films that have become even for us some kind of native. His experience in Hollywood should not be taken into account - he did not work out there. But he triumphantly returned to his native France and continued to work with Gerard Depardieu, and also developed the talent of Jean Renaud in a comedy role when he began working with this actor. True, he has been using Richard Berry more recently, but we are not considering this, he will still have time, but for now we will return to Jean Renaud.
The first film, where Francis Weber starred this famous actor with Spanish roots, was "Jaguar". I must say that comedy in this case is relative. There are moments where you can smile. They mainly appear at the beginning, when the swindler and Alphonse François Perrin (Patrick Bruel) meets on his way a shaman from the depths of the Amazon and he sticks to him like a bath leaf. In him, the shaman sees a replacement for himself, because he is soon kidnapped... Unable to take responsibility, François agrees to fly with the French Amazon forest defender Jean Campana (Jean Renault) to South America, as Perrin begins to be pursued by usurers to whom Perrin owes a decent amount of money. From the moment the Brazilian shaman plunges into a coma, the comedy ends, and a “greenpeace” movie with an ethnic bias appears on the screen.
Of course, shots with the virgin forests of the depths of the Amazon are pleasing to the eye, but in the picture "Jaguar" you hardly recognize the good old Francis Weber . In addition, this experiment with the director came out quite decent. The clash between conservationists with the highest and most benevolent goals against criminal capitalists was marked by the fact that any spectator would take one side in this conflict and that side of the good, so Weber teaches us the good. In the midst of all this story revolves a small crook Perrin, who is destined to become the savior of the tribes of the Amazon. It is good that he does not save the world, or it would seem that the work in Hollywood was not in vain for Francis Weber.
To the unambiguous advantages of the tape, I will write that the acting trio Bruel-Reno-Patricia Velazquez became a single whole. Of course, the brutality Jean Renaud was striking first of all, and the fact that Bruel did not reach the peaks that world stars reached in other films Weber in the second, and the exotic beauty Velazquez is ahead of her acting talent in the third place, but still they played in combination. And Danny Trejo in his usual role of an antagonist is good and quite fit into the concept of the picture.
In general, "Jaguar" is a high-quality European cinema, so far from Hollywood standards that it takes joy for watching something unusual, even rare.
7 out of 10
P.S.: I advise the French to patent the name of François Perrin, otherwise it has become a household name.
I love this movie so much!! He is an amazing combination of comedy, drama, adventure - just a little and everything in abundance.
In the first half of the film more funny: no dialogue, it makes a smile.
The scene where the Indian grabs the nose of the unfortunate François in the elevator - she laughed to tears! Or the moment with the coat - just no words! "I need the keys, they're in the coat, or should I give a car too?" (c) Fffse, I just don't exist! And when does François discover ritual drawings on his face? No words, only BRAVO!
In general, of course, there is something to think about... it seems to be an entertaining movie, but it also has a philosophy... for which I adore the French, that they are able to submit everything easily and easily. After all, not everyone is given to be born “good” (conditionally), sometimes it leads to a long and thorny path (or does not lead), and this is what we see in the hero of my beloved Patrick Bruel – Francois. The gambler, without principles and morality, is not clear at all than the living, then we also observe cowardice ... but life is a series of accidents ... and is it accidental? Do not enter the elevator that has already left... do not notice and save him Maya. Only an old Indian could see it from the beginning.
What a brilliant cast here! I have no idea who could be replaced! No one! Jean Reno — bravo! Patricia Velazquez — ah, how touching, tender, sweet, is it really that bitch from the Mummy?! The villain Danny Trejo is always convincing! And my great love is Patrick Bruel. Oh, how good he is in this movie! And when the unscrupulous womanizer, and when he was furious, and when he met Maya. But in the black cashmere coat that he gave, without knowing it, the best of all! What a voice! Oh! But the actor is even better than all of the above combined. Acting skills plus French charm - could there be a more lethal mix?
What a beautiful movie! In the beginning, magical Paris seems to be the focus, but the atmosphere is amazing! Then the majestic jungle of the Amazon with waterfalls and rivers - you can not take your eyes off. A runaway Brazilian outback that just asks to be painted in watercolor.
Even if I wanted to complain about something, it would not work. Every second of screen time, every frame is perfect. I don’t even know who doesn’t like this movie, so my opinion is to watch it. Especially if you've been tortured. As a cure. I don't know who, but it always helps me!
