Engineer with capital letters This is an absolutely remarkable film that has no analogues, although parts echo different genres, combining biography, history, comedy and romance of engineering creativity.
First of all, this is a biography - the book shows the life of a famous designer.
In order to show the audience the full degree of his genius / talent, the director came up with such an original technique: the hero of the film draws by hand (without using a compass and ruler) the ideal circle of a given radius! Two parallel lines, the eye measures segments of a given length.
I do not know whether it is humanly possible to repeat such a feat and whether Alexander Aleksandrovich Mikulin himself possessed such superpowers, but after that a whole direction of sports creativity appeared in real life: how to draw a perfect circle by hand (well, I think this film played a significant role in popularizing this occupation).
My parents, engineering designers, always admired this episode of the film.
In addition to the biographical genre, the film also covered historical and comedy - the film reliably shows the era of the NEP in the style of Ilf and Petrov - with humor and all the nuances of that time. At times, Berezhkov behaves like Ostap Bender, for which he falls in the crosshairs of the economic security agencies of that time.
The film is slightly reminiscent of the film “Genius”, although these are two completely different, but still somewhat similar, films and they can be attributed to the same group.
But the most important thing in the film is the romance of engineering creativity and all the difficulties standing in the way of the inventor at all times.
In the course of the film, Berezhkov makes several completely brilliant inventions - not invented by the violent imagination of the director - but really workers, but no one needs these inventions, and all he receives from the "thankful" society is increased attention of the police, but any crooks quickly penetrate all their usefulness and mercilessly exploit the inventor and his inventions.
But the thirst for creativity of the main character is so strong and the talent is great that he like a bulldozer sweeps away all the obstacles in his way and in the end everything ends on an optimistic note.
And in general, the film is designed in an optimistic cheerful style - recommended for viewing by students and schoolchildren - future engineers, to create even greater motivation for the chosen profession.
