America; early 30s of XX century
Bud / Eric Linden / - provincial naive boy who came to New York to his cousin and got into an unpleasant situation; trusting, romantic, enthusiastic
Gibby (Walter Catlett) - Bud's cousin, an age-old burner of life, a swindler and a deceiver who prefers to have fun at someone else's expense
Vida / Joan Blondell / - Gibby's girlfriend, a lover of parties and easy life, a chorus girl in some institution, not the most decent girl, a typical example of a "provincial girl in the city"
A short story (only 1 hour 2 minutes) which, however, is full of events and in a certain episode was able to surprise me. A film that is still very relevant today. About a young man who got bored in his province and, as soon as he had the opportunity to leave for the big city with fun and opportunities, he immediately went there.
However, as many people know, a big city is also a great test of strength and determination, as well as many other qualities. The main character gets into a situation that would knock anyone off track. And it was a big surprise to me, I did not expect such a development. At first I thought it would be a romantic comedy.
Comedic situations abound, some cause straight smiles. But a certain dissonance is felt, because the comedy is sharply replaced by a detective thriller of some kind. However, none of the genres here will not reach the end, and there is no heat, but there is a reason to relax in the evening. There are many minor characters in the tape and even a young Humphrey Bogard appeared, who was not even mentioned in the credits, can you imagine this?
As a result, a nice picture came out, which I can recommend to fans of classics.
