Bobby Bowfinger as a child conceived to shoot his full-scale Hollywood film, but time passed, and luck did not turn its face. Removing a blatant slag with the participation of useless actors, Bowfinger was almost disappointed in himself. He is already 50, he is not the handsome man he wanted to be, and his colleagues working on box office blockbusters, and he simply do not know anything.
But one day, Bobby gets his hands on the script of the fantastic thriller Puffy Rain, which promises to be an event. And although Bowfinger has no money and equipment, he finds a way to make a picture, and even with the most popular Hollywood star – Keith Ramsey. The only problem is that Ramsey does not know that he is being filmed, and therefore it is worth preparing for a huge amount of selective humor that will not leave anyone indifferent!
Frank Oz's film was based on a screenplay by Steve Martin, who booked the role of Bowfinger. Martin, with his peculiar irony, laughs at modern Hollywood trends and literally turns the insides of the Dream Factory out. Shooting his film for mere pennies, Bowfinger shows that nothing is impossible if you muster up the audacity and believe that fate gave you another chance. And to be honest, I admire Bowfinger and would love to go to “Puffy Rain” in the movies, no matter how terrible it was.
But Eddie Murphy had to play two roles here at once - Keith and his loser brother, whom Bowfinger engaged in his film as a double. Murphy blended into the fantasy of Steve Martin and played two completely different roles. Moreover, in Cool Guy, Murphy gave a very cool and confident game that is completely different from what he did afterwards. “Pluto Nash” and other dubious projects of the beginning of the new century is better not to remember.
I also liked how the authors showed us that from any available means you can make up quite normal, and how to save on filming, when there is no special permission. I’m not saying this is not a farce, but the opposite. But what a joyful and ingenious man he is.
To sum up, “Cool Guy” is one of the best comedies in the careers of Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy. It is a celebration of humor and healthy irony. Do not refuse to watch, because a good mood is guaranteed.

This is a very caustic, topical, but at the same time really funny, and most importantly a good comedy about all these “star” curves. There was a kind of parody of Hollywood everyday life, with elements of frank banter.
Poor, but enterprising director decides to make a film, gutting his piggy bank. Hollywood star is available, but she does not know and it is not a problem at all. The viewer will be entertained by the filming process itself, which will amaze with its sparkling nonsense. There is a strong impression that most of the modern blockbusters are shot in this manner. Unashamedly revealed the main secrets of Hollywood.
Perhaps not all jokes are good, because their quality is very difficult to assess. When such comedians perform, you have to laugh willy-nilly. Martin captivates with his unrestrained energy, charisma of the coolest guy and eternal hope for the best. Murphy is good with his crown serve, lively, impulsive and, as usual, the viewer is waiting for a double portion of Murphy. Every appearance on the screen Graham, it is already a big smile, her character is as impudent as times demand. There was no duet at all, although the presence of two central comedians contributed to this, but the film only won, because the whole team tried to fame, each character was original and caused a mountain of emotions.
I will recommend the film for viewing, this is a really funny comedy, which did without vulgarity, somewhere even laughing at lust, with a parody zest and a wonderful vision of behind-the-scenes games.
I wish everyone a pleasant viewing!!
There was a time when the actor-comedian Eddy Murphy was so hurried that I wanted to shout louder and louder. This is the era of "Beverly Hills Cop(s)" and "Coming to America." The last time this talent brightly lit up in the voice of the Donkey from Shrek. Then he dissolved into mediocrity.
Can the comedy "Cool Guy" be considered mediocre? Yeah, if you're mean. Can this film be considered a comedy? Well, it has a set of qualities that characterize this genre. And besides, in a couple of episodes, I laughed genuinely (albeit quietly).
Bobbie Bowfinger is a producer and director who is experiencing career difficulties. And so, in his head comes the brightest of thoughts: to remove the star — Kita Ramsey (just Eddie Murphy) secretly. They will not know what they are doing. Along the way, Bowfinger found to believe the film crew (except the operator) that the case is crystal clear.
Well, actually, here. That's what this movie is about. And sometimes it's very interesting. Sometimes it gets boring. But to catch for yourself, as a movie lover, can be a lot. How is this filmmaking process going? Perhaps the funniest of the moments was how Ramsey the coffeemaker (see and see what it means) was forced to cross the busy highway.
Subtleties in terms of legal aspects do not promise us. You don't have to. This is a film to relax the body after a mentally or bodily hard day's work, relaxing when watching which the brain. Which means he's good. But not the most, not without it.
But I wish you all a pleasant viewing! I think this movie deserves to be seen.
P.s:And all I have to do is evaluate this light as a feather film...
I came across this comedy quite by accident. And, frankly, I did not expect anything grandiose from her, besides, I was embarrassed by the year of release - after all, a lot of water has flowed since 1999. On the other hand, what is the test of time for comedy? Well, I can now say with confidence that the movie “Cool guy” is worth your attention.
There was never a feeling of anything out of date or old. The film looks easy - no protractedness, no vulgar jokes. And the most that neither is the crazy and funny story of ascent to the tops of Hollywood dreamers-enthusiasts. There is little to it (as, in general, comedy) a lot of funny moments. Ugh, that's Steve Martin! With each of his films, I am convinced that he has no sense of humor. And in combination with a tight Eddie Murphy turns out a beautiful tandem. Christine Baransky does not lag behind them (her character I liked the most) - and the eye pleases, and humors unobtrusively (this is certainly where the comedic talent is buried).
The comedy was great. Definitely, a slight fine mood after watching is guaranteed. I recommend all lovers of good humor.
Making a good comedy is not easy. Directors and screenwriters often climb to the edge to at least somehow make their audience laugh. Vulgar jokes, black humor, stupid curvatures on camera - all this is fun only for children, and even now even children know how to filter movies correctly. Sometimes directors invite well-known comedians to their project, but this still brings nothing: only actors are ashamed that they starred in such a weak movie.
The movie "Cool Guy" (or Bowfinger) is not one of those. This comedy can not be called a reference, you can not give any award like “Best Comedy of the Year”, but of course, this picture deserves great respect and viewing. I guarantee you that she will remain in your memory, and when you accidentally see her on TV for the second time, you will be proud to shout: “Oh, it’s cool guy!” That's a great movie! And in general, after viewing, there is a pleasant sediment that contributes to a good mood.
The plot of this film tells us about the unsuccessful Hollywood director Robert Bowfinger, who is trying to make at least some film. In his hands gets a great, albeit very strange script, which leads Robert to the idea of starting filming his mega-blockbuster. In order for the film to somehow pay off, you need to shove a superstar into it, which is in the person of Keith Ramsey - the most popular actor of our time. Naturally, Keith refuses to star in such a strange film, with an unknown director and crew. Then Robert takes a risky step: he makes a film with Keith, but without his knowledge, carefully preparing each scene. They have only one take, so that Keith does not know anything.
Incredibly fast, energetic and fun plot will immediately spin you in the whirlwind of sunny Los Angeles. Wonderful, kind jokes will not let you get bored, and short timekeeping will not impose longing. Steve Martin not only starred in the film, but also as a screenwriter, for which I am very grateful. The script is the main part of any movie, and this is where the script is written perfectly.
You can endlessly talk about the ideal actors in "Cool guy." Eddie Murphy - this is generally one of the most talented American comedians, able to reincarnate in any hero, rebuild on any humor and twist any funny grimace. Even in this film, he plays two characters at once (something that reminds me of, doesn’t it) and it’s not that he did any of them better. Both completely different characters are played very, very well. And about Steve Martin generally bad words language does not turn to say. I don’t know who else would have played Bowfinger if not Martin. Attractive appearance, kind eyes and a smile that can knock any girl on the bed. A true professional in his field.
One of the advantages of the film is its simplicity. There is no hidden meaning, no incomprehensible jokes and all that. This picture is created to entertain the viewer, to make him a little more fun. The good thing is that “Cool Guy” can be watched with both friends and family. What do you need for a great comedy?
In the end, I would like to say that Bowfinger is the film, after watching which you will not regret your time. Quite the opposite. Thanks to Frank Oz for so literate and fascinating comedy, which will be pleasant to remember and which will be pleasant to review, pouring all the same loud laughter and repeating after the characters the jokes they said aloud.
I suggest you watch it.
Over the past century, cinema has become a powerful industry, especially under the wing of American companies. I am sure that among the impressive stream of projects of various genres, films should come out that will give us an ironic view of cinema from the outside.
The film tells about a little-known director who is burning with the idea to create a truly enchanting film. To do this, he invites one of the most successful actors in Hollywood and attracts major studios, but none of the above is eager to participate. In the film, there is just an insane amount of irony on the cliches in the cinema that we know perfectly well. Watching the crew make a movie with Eddie Murphy, who doesn’t know it, is fun and positive. There are some very interesting ideas in the film. Yes, they are not always performed at the highest level, but it is a comedy, so a little indulgence can not hurt. The film is unlikely to cause hysterical laughter, but the mood will certainly lift. Thus, the picture is far from the titular representatives of the genre, but, in my opinion, such ambitions were not. I would like to note the consistently excellent performance of Steve Martin in the role of the same hapless director.
The most interesting feature is the film itself, which is essentially a third-rate fantastic action movie. And here is the full irony of Hollywood stereotypes. Not all scenes turned out to be equally interesting, and the opening part could be shorter. However, the film leaves the most pleasant impressions and a slight smile on his face.

“All Oscars go to white people, that’s a fact.” Have I ever been nominated? Nope! Why not? Because they didn't play slaves, they didn't kick my ass, that's what they're nominated for. If a black man plays a slave, if he is fooled, get the nomination. White plays a moron - get an Oscar. Find me a script with a retarded slave - it will be an Oscar.
Why and why did I decide to watch Frank Oz's comedy "Cool Guy"? Naturally for the actors of the leading roles - great comedians Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy.
Robert Bowfinger, a failed director, finally gets his hands on, in his opinion, a great script called “Puffy Rain”, and he has a chance to become a recognizable face in Hollywood. For a good film you need a star, and Robert invites to the main role of his action movie Keith Ramsey - the best hero of action films. The problem is that Keith doesn’t want to be in this movie. Then Bowfinger decides to shoot it secretly, without Keith’s knowledge, with fake actors and scenes from life created according to his script.
Actors. Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin – one of the best comedians in Hollywood do not let you get bored for a second. Eddie Murphy, a master of hard-hitting monologues, shows us the class, reflecting on the injustice of cinema. I am sure that all his lines he invented himself, and perhaps it is improvisation. Steve Martin, in my opinion, loses a little against Eddie, but also looks fresh, funny and interesting. Among other actors, I want to highlight Heather Graham, whose character mocks the image of young actresses who are ready to do anything to light up on the screen. Robert Downey Jr. was also pleased to see in his small but capacious role. But most of all, I was fascinated by Bowfinger's dog, walking around the parking lot in heels. This is really an actress!
As for the whole movie, I haven’t seen such a good comedy in a long time! A good script, great actors, an unusual idea for a movie — and here’s a cool guy — one of my favorite comedies. The only thing that I think is missing here is the splitting of the plot line and the addition to the film can be some criminal notes or parts of the action movie. Well, it is also exciting to turn out with intrigue. And so without this it turned out just a kind and very funny comedy, which I advise everyone to watch without exception and have a good time!
