Animals, Radio and Love Debut in the cinema Audrey Wells, which then became a well-known screenwriter, writing stories for very popular films, here she also acted as a producer of the picture. And she wrote a romantic story about an insecure girl who works on the radio in a program where she gives advice to people on how to care for their pets. One day she accepts an invitation to a date, but then backs down, setting up her friend - a long-legged blonde - for an unknown boyfriend. How to understand that then everything will happen as the most common love novels – the leading and new friend are destined to be together.
Directed by Michael Lehmann, a director who worked first for the big screen, and then moved to television. His paintings were not very successful, but the audience he always had, just hits did not appear on the screens under his leadership. This statement can be safely attributed to The truth about cats and dogs. Gradual presentation of material, easily readable scenes, anticipation of the final - all this did not benefit the picture. I noticed that I was constantly distracted while watching, and when I was again included in the film, I clearly knew that I had lost nothing of value. Still, no matter how easy the genre of love melodrama with elements of comedy, but something deeper is always expected and when this happens, the film is revised, and here it is suitable only for one-time study.
There was no spark in the acting. Ben Chaplin never for me was the performer of the first echelon, although sometimes I got into the paintings on the main plan, but to remember something brilliant from him does not come out, everywhere average and grayish game. As in "The Truth About Cats and Dogs" - some eternally tortured helpless man, from whom you did not expect bold steps - this is the impression created by his play. Janine Garofalo fits well into the image of an insecure girl who has everything quiet on the love front, but again the question arises: Where are the emotions? Where is the expression of feelings?” It's kind of dispassionate, and it's all over. A few words flattering worthy Uma Thurman (well, she became a star of large caliber). She is not a beauty, but there is something enigmatic and charismatic about her that she took full advantage of in this film. It was the scenes with her participation that were both funny and touching, as the genre of the film requires.
In general, a simple movie, you can pass the evening at leisure, but do not expect something powerful and serious, it is only continuous entertainment without a brain load for those who are not alien to a sense of romance.
