Still, it still does not fit into my head how an actor who played such a cheerful person (and this is not the only role of Robin Williams in such a role) could plunge into the abyss of depression and commit suicide in real life.
Filming in a biopic is a responsible thing, because it is always a risk: whether the protagonist is a real person is believable. Hunter Adams was initially dissatisfied with the way his image was presented to the public by both the actor Robin Williams and the filmmakers. He felt that the painting was too simplistic. However, after the death of Williams, Patch Adams somewhat softened and changed his point of view, describing Williams' play as quite on the damage.
What Healer Adams practiced is essentially an alternative model of medicine. It was then tried to create in the Australian state of Queensland during covid lockdowns, when everyone, especially private practitioners and workers of the near-medical professions (cyropractors, osteopaths, nutritionists, psychologists, etc.) was told to climb under the bench and sit there until vaccination or in its absence. According to this model, the doctor to the patient is primarily a person, that is, an equal, not looking down snob, boasting his diplomas on the wall, like Patch’s dorm roommate, magnificently played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. His medical student turned out to be so caricatured that he literally inflated with importance and inflated self-esteem.
In English, there is a term “bedside manner”, i.e. the manner of behavior of the doctor with the patient. And this manner is a separate criterion by which the medical workers are evaluated in reviews on specialized websites. Needless to say, dry, callous, rough, insensitive, not able to listen specialists are not very popular there. And there is also such a term – “to have a click with the doctor”, that is, when the patient trusts the doctor when he is comfortable with him, a certain emotional connection arises, and a special, warm relationship develops.
Modern medicine, unfortunately, has turned into pharmacology (although pharmacology is only part of medicine, one of its aspects), when everything comes down to treatment with only pharmaceutical drugs, which are often synthetic. And for each symptom there is a tablet, although it is not the symptoms (effect) that should be treated, but the root cause of the disease. Few doctors take into account the patient’s nutrition, lifestyle, state of his soul, psycho-emotional characteristics. The body in this scenario is considered not as a single whole, but as separate systems that are not related to each other. Therefore, recently, integrative or complementary medicine is very popular, capable of combining many different approaches, teachings and treatment methods. In fact, it is a synthesis of “new”, i.e. alternative, and “old”, traditional approaches to the treatment of diseases.
It got in the “Healer Adams” and the insurance business, which imposes exorbitant charges on Americans in the form of insurance costs. Thank goodness I don’t live in the U.S. but in Australia, but medical insurance is very expensive. Moreover, insurance funds do not hesitate to regularly raise the price of health insurance, doing it every year. In fact, medical insurance is a business like the “wild west”, practically not controlled by the state and working on the principle of the unforgettable Mavrodi with his “MMM”: tomorrow will be more expensive than today.
By the way, the Gesundheit Institute, created by Patch, exists in the United States to this day. This is not just the idea of a hospital, which would combine such methods of treatment as naturopathy, acupuncture, homeopathy, art therapy, needlework and much more, but also a non-profit holistic medical project based on the concept that the health of an individual cannot be separated from the health of his family, society and the world as a whole, aimed at rejecting in medicine such concepts as “greed” and “power” and unconditional satisfaction of human needs. Despite the bold plans, Hunter Adams and Co.'s patients have unfortunately long since been admitted. They devote their time and energy to raising funds for the construction of a proper “dream hospital” without which admission of patients is impossible. The “proper” hospital, as Adams sees it, is a departure from the world of corporate business into a world of compassion and, at the same time, full-fledged patient care, where the initial appointment would take 3-4 hours per person (impressive, but unlikely to be realistic). However, Patch Adams and his team can be hired to perform clown performances. I saw a performance like this at the Brisbane Children's Hospital, where I live, when I went there with my youngest daughter. To be honest, it was great. What children need, especially those who are afraid of medical staff. I must say that the atmosphere in this hospital was not oppressive, it was quite pleasant to be there.
However, despite the major mood in the film's finale, the "Dream Hospital" is still unbuilt and it is not known if it will be built at all. In the world of money, it is not easy to knock your forehead on closed doors. Although Patch, apparently, is not going to give up... After all, its goal is not only a hospital, but also to build a bright future for all mankind through the “humanization” of that very medicine.

The movie is so vanilla that it starts to vomit. But it would be great if suddenly a kind soul and light in the eyes would cure people. Great, and in the case of some mental disorders, it will work. And even in the case of severe diseases, increase survival. But there is no magic or miracle. The film creates a fictional world, an illusion, a fairy tale for adults. Judging by the reviews, adults have a demand for this. There really is something valuable in the film. Adams objects to labeling patients as diagnoses or "interesting cases." He believes that treatment should begin with getting to know the patient and establishing a trusting relationship. All of this has really happened in the past. The problems were recognized, medical organizations called for reform of the profession and medical ethics from within. The approach has changed. Patients are no longer called diagnoses. There are standards that require a personal approach to each patient. By the time the film was made, these changes had already taken place in the United States. But they did not happen in all countries. They're desperately needed. It is noteworthy that the film did not like the Adams prototype.
The film was kind, but I had mixed feelings. A lot of outdated morality, not under me. The way people behave, I sometimes cringe. I wouldn't watch it a second time.
Overall impression: Meet Healer Adams, a doctor who is dramatically different from his prim and important colleagues. Adams made an incredible discovery in modern medicine. The best cure for any disease is laughter. And Dr. Adams is ready to do everything possible to make his patients, as well as the audience of this beautiful picture, laugh without interruption!
Movies with Robin Williams can’t be bad. They are filled with special warmth, soulfulness. Healer Adams is an excellent biographical film about one person with a big heart. Patch Adams is an American doctor, public figure, hospital clown and writer. He is best known for his work as a hospital clown and is considered one of the creators of this phenomenon. In 1972 he founded the Institute of Health. Every year Adams gathers a group of volunteers and at the head of them travels to different countries around the world, where, speaking in clown clothes, tries to cheer up and cheer children in orphanages and hospitals.
The film shows the difficult life of Adams, the thing is that even in school he became the object of ridicule, which led to eternal sadness and suicidal tendencies. After three hospitalizations in one year, Adams decided to change everything. You help people, you help yourself. Patch has found his calling!
Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors. The multifaceted role of the clown doctor seems to have been created for him. When I look at Williams, I wonder how you can absorb both comedic and dramatic features. By the way, I noticed that comedic actors get better at running from genre to genre than those who work in one direction.
The movie is very heartfelt, laughing through tears. It touches the living, but leaves a pleasant feeling. There are things in the world that we cannot change, but we can help people, kindness is the best quality that a person has.

It happens that you are looking for an interesting film to be good, positive, but not sweet. With meaning, but without overload, but on the contrary, the one that will free from the burden of vain thoughts and worries that hang the sword of Damocles and do not give a breath. You flip through the sentences on Instagram and suddenly, among a ton of infomuser and plastic rhinos, you find something really valuable. A pearl with a bright aftertaste.
The movie “Healer Adams” today became such a pearl. I wonder why I've never seen him before. The film begins with depression. Perfectly prescribed internal monologues of the hero with himself. Only Robin Williams could so talentedly convey the darkest thoughts with the light of hope. The hero, being in a complex emotional state of hopelessness and emptiness, aimlessness of his existence, having tried a lot of means in an attempt to pull himself into a “normal” life, voluntarily places himself in a psychiatric hospital. And paradoxically, this is where the desired metamorphosis takes place, which explains everything.
I will not tell you the plot and do not recommend to read the logline about the picture or watch trailers before viewing. They'll kill all the atmosphericity. Look at it like the first time. Then you'll be fascinated from the first breath. I guarantee it. Watch the film authentically. Turn off all phones and distractions.
The film is perfect for you if you burn out, in an emotional pit, tired, look for light light thoughts and often do good deeds that can not be famous.
I'll give you a shot with four fingers. From this moment begins the metamorphosis of Patch Adams. And I'll share with you a quote: "Many problems could be solved if you were sometimes a little too cheerful."
See what others don’t see. What others refuse to see out of fear. See the whole world again every day.
This film is a story about how one person is able to overcome the fears and accumulated anxieties of patients languishing in hospital beds and waiting for their fate.
Such films can turn the ordinary idea of simple and even obvious things, for example, about what is ' good', and what is 'bad', or, by the way, what should be your doctor, or how to help people without feeling guilty if suddenly fail. What should the attending physician be?! Should he be a friend who can show sympathy, or should the doctor treat only the disease and nothing more? Numerous films and TV series devoted to medical topics give an example of a number of approaches, the gradation of which can be briefly characterized by the phrase ' from simple to complex'. For example, the TV series ' Dr. House' tells that being close to the patient and providing him with sympathy will not help in the treatment of the disease. At this moment, Patch Adams enters into a desperate struggle, bursts into the foreground and proves that the emotional state, as well as the thoughts and secrets of the person, is the key to solving the mystery. Our emotions are often overwhelmed with the head and then we are not subject to any treatment, because to convince a person is like breaking his system of principles.
As is already obvious from the title, the main character of the film is Hunter Adams (Robin Williams) . Hunter - an extraordinary and somewhat ambiguous personality. His ideas and actions sometimes do not inspire any trust, drive into the paint, and sometimes completely deprive speech. However, it is this eccentricity and disregard for the rules that give the result - patients begin to experience joy, they leave the torment and guilt, they recall all the beautiful episodes that once occurred in their lives. Everyone wants attention, everyone wants to be heard. This is what gives them the hope that the world is not so dark and terrible, that it is still able to impress and amaze.
No less good and secondary characters, namely Carine (Monica Potter) and Truman (Daniel London) - characters without whose help and support the story would not have happened.
I believe that the film will again make you analyze the whole situation, repeatedly scrolling through possible scenarios. Each of the episodes seems to live an independent life, woven together and forming a holistic picture called ' Healer Adams'.
All these stories, the lines of the characters, their thoughts and feelings, the pain of loss and the joy of meeting – all this lives in me, inspires and makes me move forward from film to film. The idea is not to love something, but to find and discover yourself in it, in a new way, day by day, trying happiness to taste.

' Healer Adams' came to Robin Williams while he was working on one of his best roles - also doctors - in the great film Gus van Sant ' Good Will Hunting' The film adaptation of the memoirs of a well-lived doctor Hunter Adams was taken by a talented comediographer Tom Shadyak, who did not know failures in his business and released at that time 3 phenomenally successful hits with Jim Carrey and Eddie Murphy. ' Healer Adams' Naturally became the fourth, although at that time - the most controversial: viewers were accustomed to Shadyak's films - these are eccentric light farces with desperately comic heroes, and here, despite the fact that the real clown became the hero, the tape acquired a sentimental sound, even a serious desire to breakout in the season.
Critics, however, reacted to the film coldly, praising Williams, but berating not too successful genre cocktail, one-sided script, superficial presentation of the material, too straightforward pressing tears from the audience. However, this did not prevent the film from becoming a favorite of the public, and, from the height of today, it is already clear that the critics, even if they were right in particulars, were mistaken in the overall perception of the tape. For example, on 'Tomatoes' is a strikingly large discrepancy between critical assessments (22) and viewers (75). The audience loves these movies and will always love them.
The picture corresponds to two favorite Hollywood themes: the story ' Cinderella' which achieved recognition and the history of the victory of the individual over the system. The viewer loves simple, kind heroes, desperate to make his world better, loves biopics - a genre that allows you to experience a special involvement with movie heroes, likes to laugh, cry and Robin Williams.
For Williams, this is also one of the favorite themes - the victory of a small man over a soulless system, the preservation of his inner child in the captivity of everyday life, well, the character of Adams is extremely close to the actor, who always felt comfortable in the roles of people not of this world. The victory and triumph of such people, as well as the triumph of love of humanity, laughter, love, strength of spirit over the forces of order, traditions, condo discipline, prudish morality - is the main theme of the actor's work, which he led almost since the times 'Popeya'
' Patch' (in some translations it was replaced by offensive ' Shoot' although ' Patch' and there is a euphemism for ' Joke' - something like ' Slaps' Velcros' Band-Aid' - in fact ' Dr. Pilyulkin') Adams is the direct heir of the characters created by Williams from ' Society, a dead man, a ecologist, and a lost poet, 39; and a lost poet, 39; and a poet, a stranger; and a lost poet, 39; A kind of Don Quixote of medicine. Like John Keating and Dr. Sayer, he is foreign wherever he is, every society rejects him and tries to squeeze him out like a splinter, and he desperately tries to convey his insight to at least a few. This is the theme of Christ and the Apostles. In each of these films, a group of followers is formed around the misunderstood genius, ready to tolerate the truth and the teachings created by his messiah, and the teacher promises salvation - here - literally. His hero, like the above, feels complete only next to children looking at the world not yet ossified gaze, and with people on the verge of death, ready to perceive this peculiar & #39; anointing'. Williams is here in his element and deeply truthful.
Of course, the theme of mission and messiah is too big for the framework of comedy that Shadyak tries to fit into. Hence, a lot of unnecessarily harsh criticism of the film, which simply tries to convey the very subject of messianism to the general public, tries to be nice and friendly with the viewer, talk with him on the same level, without encroaching on the title of author's statement, as '1492: the conquest of paradise' Scott or ' Schindler's List' Spielberg.
Another thing is that the film does not always match the talent of Williams. If he is not used to the roles of outcasts, which he would like to have in friends, and he is struggling to bring something new to the usual image of a reasonable, kind, eternal, receiving a portion of cruel sobering and a portion of triumph, then the rest of the actors sometimes have tightly within the narrow plot framework of this story. And it is not senior that for the sake of Williams sin against facts - for example, the age of Adams, who went to university immediately after school, not being a mature man, and was, for example, huge - almost two meters - height. It doesn't matter. It is important that for the sake of aligning the stories with the Hollywood canons and to bend intrigue, additional characters are added to the script with an uncertain hand: for example, Philip Symour Hoffman plays a hard-headed classmate Adams, who, of course, will then be amazed by the successes of his twisty competitor. And Monica Potter is a romantic object that has long held the defense against the charm of the doctor-clown, but, of course, can not help but give up. The film does not win anything from their presence, except that it is delayed.
By visual style and temporism, characters and morality, he imitates a large biographical Hollywood movie, like ' The Mind Game' and, if not for a good spoonful of humor, be very pathetic and moralistic. In the film there are several pathetic moments, for example, typical for this kind of paintings court, during which the hero, proving his rightness, come cured children, and, as a sign of support, put on red noses. In ' Dead Poets Society' a similar scene was piercingly sincere and powerful, justifying Keating's teachings. Here it looks like cheap manipulation and gives falsehood. Fortunately, Shadyak still has enough sense of humor not to keep the same annoyingly tearful note throughout the film.
Is this a funny movie? I think so. It is funny that Williams, incredibly brash, sharp, irrepressible and sharp-tongued on stage, preferred to be quite sentimental in the movie and chose the roles of the Fools & #39. But when the script permits, it explodes with fireworks of humor and proves that laughter can coexist not only with tears but also with death. Laughter is a mission. No less important than the mission of religion or medicine. And this, of course, adds to the film significance and power, which he tried to take unjustifiably pathetic scenes.
Sometimes the picture lacks subtlety and bulge, but, as I said, the overall impression of it is very bright, and the aftertaste is persistent and pungently pleasant. Williams is so good that even Dr. Adams himself, who at first did not accept the film and viciously criticized it, eventually changed his anger to mercy, and two decades later he already praised the tape that made him and his cause world famous, and called Williams a friend.
Apparently, he realized that closing our eyes to the flaws of the script and productions, we see the main thing - a person who changed the world for the better. And a movie that tries to do the same.
A movie that leaves out the rest of Robin Williams. Previously, this name was the pledge of masterpiece paintings. But here's the miss.
After the film remains unpleasant aftertaste, disgust for the hero Robin and as a result to the actor. That’s because making a movie about pranksters in serious, professional spheres is very important not to cross the line.
Here the director failed, the feeling that the author has an imbalance in the adequacy of humor.
The humor came out flat, not rude and not vulgar, but close to this, sometimes perverted: a game with bits of meat for example, or a meeting of gynecologists. In the desire to please the sick, Adam’s hero seems ready for any antics, without thinking about their adequacy. For example, spend a pool of pasta for the perverse dream of one woman.
Besides, what's the problem? Is medicine too serious and does not tolerate humor? Are there any jokers among the doctors? The author of the film has never been to the hospital. If there was, I would see that the chief doctors and surgeons, oncologists – those on whom great responsibility for the lives of people are forced to fight with great stress – they either drink or joke, otherwise they simply do not survive at such work.
The indelible impression of the Living Man, who through all his “mature” life (which began as an inspiration to people staying in a psychiatric clinic, their “highlights”, each of their stories, and resulting from this already from Adams’ ability to see in them the person, causes and effects, literally stand in their place and from there heal, roll away with laughter, appease and simply live with them according to their values and their needs) carried this rare authenticity, which is characteristic not only of a strong spirit of individuals, but also of loving and apprehensing all their lives, at the same time creating a burningness and despair.
In every situation, in every meeting, in every problem, we were confronted not by a narcissist, a madman, or simply an “idiot” whom he impressed on everyone, including the future love of his life, a lady whose gaze he caught in the audience, and then, piece by piece, layer by layer, revealed in her the kindness and peace that had been lost in the unknown hardships of her life. Before us appeared a fighter for the right to be yourself, to give others (both old and young) a chance to be happy even in the most difficult moments, for the right to radiate and give joy along with valuable medical and everyday advice. I can hardly believe that such a person still exists, and it is very joyful that this is a real story, because it gives hope that all is not lost, that one should try and really, really, want to become one ... but already with his history, with his faith and with his idea. Right, bravo!
Any profession can be safely studied in numerous educational institutions around the world. However, I have always believed that there are two professions that you cannot simply learn. A person is either born with it or not. No matter how you learn them, you cannot be better than those who were born with all these qualities and for whom his work is recognition. One of such professions, I consider the profession of a doctor and the main character of this film Tom Shadyak clear proof of this.
Being a man from a family of hereditary doctors and almost became a doctor himself, everything that happens on the screen turned out to be very close and familiar to me. Let for the most part this film directed by Tom Shadyak is a full-fledged fairy tale of a wide age destination, but despite this, it raises very relevant and really important topics on the screen.
We are very often faced with the fact that doctors respond to our complaints rudely, and the process of treatment turns into a real torment not only physical, but also psychological. However, the director of this film Tom Shadyak found another cure for all possible diseases in his film - care, understanding, warmth, kindness and humor. Which in aggregate becomes the center of all events taking place on the screen.
Telling a very pleasant, light and bright story with some notes of sadness on the screen, the entire creative team of the picture teaches how important it is to reach out to the needy and help them in every possible way. After all, sometimes even one gentle word and one insignificant gesture can not only lift a person’s mood, but also inspire hope for a brighter and more favorable future.
Being one of the most outstanding comediographers of American cinema, the director of this film Tom Shadyak suddenly appeared in a slightly different role. Having kept on the screen the same comedic enthusiasm and the ability to make the viewer laugh enough, but also creating a dramatic canvas on the screen that pushes to numerous thoughts and touches the soul in all its glory. Allowing you to experience the sincere and strongest emotions when watching such a wonderful picture, which looks with all your heart.
In many ways, this is facilitated by the magnificent acting of the genius Robin Williams, which once again gave the world another strong role in his career and an incredible dose of luxurious humor on the screen. Allowing the entire film to experience the same healing of the soul with humor that was experienced by all patients of Healer Adams on the screen. Complement Williams on the screen acting works of such wonderful artists as Bob Gunton, Philip Seimer Hoffman, World Coyote and many others. Including Monica Potter, whose character not only gladly pleases the eyes throughout the film, but also brings some depth to the story. As if giving an opportunity together with her heroine will turn from a more callous and serious person overflowing with joy, light and warmth when watching the tape.

Healer Adams is an amazing product of a magnificent creative trio in the face of wonderful comediographers director Tom Shadyak, screenwriter Steve Odekerk and actor Robin Williams on screen. Very bright, kind, warm, positive, instructive and touching to the heart of the film with a capital letter, which you want to watch again and again. In fact, like most of the works of the talented Robin Williams, who healed a lot of viewers with his work during his busy life.
Tom Shadyak started his career by writing various sketch gags and comedies. His talent as a comedian allowed him to bypass the idol of Bob Hope in an unspoken competition. It was at that time that Tom Shadyak met comedian Jim Carrie, who managed to establish himself in Hollywood as a cool performer of roles in comedies, even reaching the status of a star in this role. Around the same time, another comedy writer, Steve Odekerk, also makes acquaintance with Carrie. The consequence of this was their joint work - first Shadyak shoots the first part of "Ace Ventura", and then Odekirk does the same, but with a sequel to the comedy. Shadyak then directs, and Odekerk writes the script for the remake of the film “Crazy Professor”, returning Eddie Murphy as a star. In 1997, Shadyak again worked with Carrie, releasing the film Liar, Liar, and Odekerk worked on the comedy Nothing to Lose. And the next year, Shadyak and Odekerk again join forces.
The fruit of this union was a tragicomedy called Healer Adams. If earlier Shadyak and Odekerk worked more on the field of the subgenre of light comedy for the whole family, then Healer Adams became their first serious challenge. The fact is that they took up the production of a picture based on the real biography of an amazing person. Hunter "Patch" Adams ("Patch) became the founder of a new direction in the art of treating patients. As a doctor of medical sciences, Patch Adams decided to radically change the method of treatment, turning working with patients into a show similar to clowning. Patch Adams said that this way patients will recover faster, being in a more optimistic mood. This method of Adams caused extreme anger among representatives of traditional medicine and only with great difficulty “Dr. Clown”, as he was called by some, opened his own clinic, allowing patients to be treated without medical insurance and filling out a pile of forms. This is the movie that Tom Shadyak and Steve Odekerk offered us.
I must say that after the premiere, the picture caused extreme indignation from critics, and Patch Adams himself stated that in the film he is shown as a clown and only indirectly affected the fact that he is actually a doctor of medical sciences. But the ordinary viewer all these attacks were ignored and “Healer Adams” collected in the world box office more than $ 200 million with 90 invested. And how could it be otherwise, if the film blows kindness, and everyone, probably, the viewer remembered how he visited the hospital, and there knocks down the queue to the registry office, often in a bad mood registrars, queues to offices, doctors who do not always fully perform their duty... In general, many people probably wanted to go to the Institute of Good Health, founded by Patch Adams, where they will always greet you with a good smile, try to cheer you up and you will not feel the painful influence of the hospital walls. Here in such a kind, bright and joyful style a picture is put, which, however, did not bypass the drama of some events.
The most dramatic of these events are associated with the beloved screen Patch Adams Karin Fisher, played by Monica Potter. I won’t reveal the nudity of their relationship, but the beautiful acting of Robin Williams (as you guess, he played the role of “Dr. Clown”) and Monica Potter will not leave anyone indifferent. Of course, not only the love line was reduced to their game. It is very entertaining to watch the heroine Monica Potter from a secluded girl absorbed in study, turns into a beautiful Mademoiselle with a fervent desire to help those who are denied treatment due to bureaucratic delays. Robin Wilms himself is an amazing and warm actor, from whose smile glows not only children. It is very interesting to see the background of why Patch Adams decided to do this, making a local revolution in the work of medical institutions. It was true that in some places it seemed as if the role of Patch was written under Jim Carrie, but the great talent of the comedian with a sad look allowed Robin Williams to instantly make him forget about it, but his bathing in vermishel is unlikely to ever be forgotten.
A very kind, pleasant film, where with all your heart "morrow" for the doctor and his assistants who decided that if people laugh, then it will not be bad. The main character challenged and found support, as played by Robin Williams found audience love. The acting of Monica Potter and Bob Gunton will also cause certain emotions that make the excitement of what you see even stronger. People like Patch Adams deserve to be known!

I would recommend this film to all doctors. Whose professional cynicism and distance from the patient often exceed all permissible limits. Not everyone can be like Adams, nor should they be. But any doctor, it seems to me, should rather be guided in his work by the theses that Adams voiced in his defensive speech, and not by the “established” tradition of healing.
The path from suicide attempts to selfless service is very short. You just need to find your own business, and interest in life instantly awakens, and all the unspent energy accumulated while you were in suspended animation, like volcanic lava, will burst out. This is exactly what happened to the main character of the film.
Not everyone is allowed to see in each ward a living person, and not a patient with such a number and such and such a diagnosis, but to master the main idea of Adams: to treat a person, not a disease, I think everyone is able to. And then the ability and ability to help people will bring high the doctor himself, including.
Robin Williams is as good as ever. This type of person is clearly "his." And he enjoyed the game as much as his character enjoyed healing. I did not quite understand why the children did not grow up, did not change, and did not change their original composition at all. But this small inconsistency of the overall impression of the picture does not spoil. The film is definitely worth a stay in any home collection.
I know everything there is to know about medicine. I have studied everything and I guarantee that I will diagnose and prescribe better treatment than any therapist or surgeon in this hospital. But I can't make her eat.
When people ask me what this film is about, I answer very briefly: "about life." No, not because I have nothing more to say or add, but because this film touches on a huge number of topical and not obsolete problems, the essence of which is impossible to tell.
So Adams is a doctor who works in a hospital. The method of treatment he promotes is new and completely unserious for his colleagues. He cures with laughter. In addition, the main character really loves his job, he wants to help people and makes every effort to do this. Adams did not take his method out of thin air. He went to her for a long time, tested her effectiveness on his own experience. Every person undergoing treatment wants understanding and support. Adams knows it like no one else and he gives it to people.
The main character is not afraid to go against the system, defending his position. He is well aware that established therapies miss a very important point. For all the power and effectiveness of medicines, procedures and operations, many doctors forget that it is not a disease that should be treated, but a person. Any treatment within the walls of the hospital is stressful for patients of any age, it is pain, longing, boredom and absolute moral exhaustion.
“I can’t make her eat” is a phrase that has a huge meaning, emphasizing how important a person’s state of mind is in the treatment process. “I can’t make her eat” is equivalent to “I can’t make her want to fight illness and live.” A doctor can treat the body, but treatment is much more effective when the doctor treats patients as people rather than as organisms to be cured. Adams didn't fight for patients, he fought for their lives. He was interested first in the patient and then in his diagnosis. That's the difference. The film does not say that treatment with laughter can cure any ailment. It shows what not only doctors, but also us should not forget: humanity.
Regarding the story, I didn’t like it. Too much humor to make you laugh. Everything is exaggerated, the writers tried their best to clearly show this healing power of laughter. Overdo it, in my opinion. Outraged by the final scene, even caused disgust, but did not laugh, not a drop. I didn’t know why I needed it.
I liked the film purely because of its meaning, because there is really a lot of it, but treating it as a good comedy for me was an impossible task.
I want to share the film with my friends, in case someone, like me, has not yet had the opportunity to see this picture.
This is the American film "Healer Adams" ("Patch Adams), 1998.
“What is the greatest disease to which medicine and the world suffer? Greed.
Hunter Patch Adams.
Personally, I watched it a couple of days ago, quite by chance. The only thing that caught my attention and made me watch was the fact that the main role is played by my favorite, and by millions of people around the world, inimitable - Robin Williams, unfortunately, who passed away so early into the other world.
To be honest, I thought at first that the film, the story, the plot – well, very naive, idealized, some utopia invented by the screenwriter, kind, but fairy tale. I was wrong and shocked when I found out at the end of the film that it was based on real events. I went online. It turned out that Patch Adams is a kind doctor, a clown is a completely real and still living person; that his free hospital for all who need help - moral, medical, spiritual and spiritual - is a very real place where people get absolutely real help.
I think the fact that the film seems like fiction is sad, but not surprising. We are just used to not believing people, to believe that the pursuit of money and power is a normal phenomenon for many in the modern world. We do not believe that an end in itself for a person, much less a doctor, can be a sincere desire to help people because of a deep love for them. And if we assume that a person becomes a doctor only for the sake of completely free treatment of not only thousands of human bodies, but also souls, this is a sign of mental illness, then I want to be mentally ill.
I’m not going to do it any more than I did.
If you have depression, everything seems gray and trusting people becomes harder and harder – watch this movie.
It's very deep and light. It’s about a real person, a real person, a person who learns the story of a man who wants to go on living.
It's a very bright and kind film. A film that can warm you up in a cold autumn that deserves your attention.
Ironically, the main character finds his way, his purpose in life, turning to a psychiatric hospital for help. But not the doctors, but the patients helped him recover. And as soon as he realized that he had found what he had been looking for for years without delay, he set about fulfilling his destiny. He was not confused by age or prejudice. He just loved people, he just wanted to help, he just believed in himself and knew that was his way.
Gorky’s “legend about Danko” comes to mind. A man with a burning heart who would do anything for the people. The main character of the film also lost his heart, not literally, of course. He lost a lot, but he did not lose faith in people. And this is very valuable: he was able to overcome all the difficulties, to prove that he is not just a clown, whom he was seen by the “respectable doctors”, to prove that his case is important and necessary. To achieve your diploma, because despite the fact that his grades were above all praise, the system is always against (in this case, against “excessive cheerfulness”). But he overcame all this, with humor, and remained true to himself, which means that we have hope that the system does not always break a person and there will be exceptions to all the rules.
It’s especially nice to watch this movie, knowing it’s based on real events. This adds a bit of optimism.
And, of course, it is impossible not to mention the amazing game of Robin Williams, however, as always. It is very sad that we no longer have such a brilliant actor. But in our memory, he will forever remain his beautiful roles.
I went to see this movie for a long time, because I thought it was about some healer who healed people like Jesus Christ. "Driving to fiction," I thought. I never read film descriptions (with a few exceptions), only look at the title, genre, average rating and cast. But I saw from the corner of my eyes that the film was based on real events, and I was curious. After watching the film, I could not recover for a long time - it impressed me so much.
This film is a kind of biography of a man who, without a doubt, was great. I am sure that if there were more such people in the world, our society would be extremely kind and responsive. Hunter Adams has dedicated his entire life to people. He gave a smile and laughter to those who needed it most. I don’t want to spoil it, but the incident with the old woman towards the end of the film unwittingly made me cry. And his warm attitude towards children with cancer! And pacifying the most violent patient in the hospital! I write, and before my eyes run all the positive moments from the film. It’s an amazing story indeed.
The lead actor, Robin Williams is a man with a capital letter. It seems to me that no one could get used to this role better than him, since Williams was probably like that in real life. In any case, all his films that I have seen give me reason to think so. Each of his roles is the result of deep penetration into the character. This film is a vivid example of my words, their direct confirmation. Hunter Adams, despite reproaches and all sorts of insidiousness from the outside, still went to achieve his goal - to help people.
The genre of the film is defined as a drama comedy. However, in fact, there is little funny here. Basically, it's a very touching drama. A drama that shows us that a true doctor does not have to be cold-blooded and insensitive, exemplified in the film by the dean of the faculty Adams is studying at. One of the main features of the savior of human lives, besides the Hippocratic oath, should be a warm attitude to each of his patients and to each person in general.
I will say a few words about the love line that goes in direct parallel with the main topic. Patch and Karin’s love theme is what this movie is all about. It was a pleasure to see the romantic relationship between the characters.
I think this film should be seen by anyone who has anything to do with medicine. And if his philosophy up to this point coincided with that of Dean Walcott, he would have to change his mind. Our doctors should not forget that they are primarily human. People who are not alien to compassion and kindness. People with a soul, not just a medical degree.
Impressions. Healer Adams, or The First Hospital Clown
To be honest, I expected more from this film with such a good poster and such high ratings of movie fans. Choosing what to see, I was looking for something as life-affirming as Awakening or Rain Man. But “Healer Adams” turned out to be completely different.
What I liked:
- Robin Williams (still an incomparable actor, who really leaves a mark on the soul, probably every work) and the cast as a whole. As always, Philip Seymour Hoffman was wonderful. (Looking at his co-production with Robin Williams, it is strange to realize that both are no longer in the world.)
- The fact that the movie is based on real events: it was interesting to learn the history of the emergence of hospital clowning.
- A few touching scenes (I will not describe and spoiler)
What I didn't like:
- Cliché. During the viewing almost did not leave the feeling that everything that happened on the screen I have already seen in many American films: the same characters, the same plot moves.
- The one at the meat packers meeting. It's very subjective. The bright atmosphere spoiled the pieces of raw meat in the frame, besides used for entertainment. This is not in line with humanity.
On the main thing:
Adams' idea that humane treatment of patients, and people in general, is paramount, I deeply like. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
But, as it seemed to me, the emphasis shifted not just to a humane attitude - benevolence, responsiveness, the destruction of the rules of paperwork, but to the fact that the doctor must establish personal contact with each patient, entertain him, instilling hope in him. In my opinion, a person will not withstand such a psychological load (and a doctor is also a person). Taking everything to heart, taking responsibility for the psychological state of a person (psychology is a delicate matter), the doctor may find it difficult to take “aggressive” measures that are sometimes simply necessary to treat or save the patient’s life. Why bother someone you're used to? and then, what if the hope the doctor gave you is a phantom? There is a double-edged sword here.
But that is why there are doctors, and there are hospital clowns, healers, whose main medicine is humor.
I'm the one who's groaning. In fact, it's not a bad movie. This can be seen if one asks the question, “What does the Healer Adams & #147 teach?” Humanity. Being yourself. Believe in yourself. Flexibility of thinking.
However, I was not impressed by this film. I didn't. Not positive. Too many sublime words - somehow in Hollywood pathetic, and not touching-comfortable. Too many copied flat characters. "Healer Adams" is such an old tale. It's a good story, but I didn't believe it. I should have seen the movie a lot earlier.
In conclusion,
Remember that laughter prolongs life and that the Golden Rule applies to everyone.
Robin Williams is a wonderful actor who, unfortunately, has passed away, giving a lot of different emotions in every film in which he starred.
Williams’ character, Hunter Patch Adams, shows how important it is to keep your desire, your hope, your dream, and how important it is to be yourself in our society, even though most people will call you weird or crazy. This wonderful man (it is not even believed that he really existed) coped with all the difficulties that met on his life path not with ease, but with a smile, and still achieved his goal. He is so inspired by his desire that his manifestation of excessive cheerfulness only gives a certain color to the emotions that you experience watching the film. I want to treat life, my desires, people, with the same sincere kindness, with the same love, and try to be as cheerful a person as the Healer Adams.
After watching this movie, it begs the phrase “... let’s fight indifference.”

This is one of the best films with Robin Williams and the best film directed by Tom Shadyak (completely having nothing to do with his comedies with the crooked Jim Carrey).
Once in a mental hospital with a diagnosis of deep depression, the hero of Robin Williams suddenly finds the meaning of life in helping others. He suddenly realizes that it is not a portion of the drug that is mechanically given to patients, but in sympathy, the desire to look deeper and understand what kind of help a person really expects from a doctor. Entering medical school and watching the depressed, sparkless sick every day, Patch Adams seeks to break the ossified medical foundations, where the patient is just a number in insurance, not a person with a name and soul. Instead of showing indifference, Patch talks, listens, laughs and fulfills dreams, without neglecting even hopeless patients. Help is not just about medicines; help is about letting you know you care. Fun and balagur Patch quickly wins the favor of patients, medical staff and classmates, but runs into disapproval and unwillingness to recognize the innovations of the representatives of the “old school”. But having found his calling, his meaning of life, he is ready to fight and prove to the whole world his rightness.
This film has everything: life and death, joy and sorrow, love and hatred. You are guaranteed to laugh, cry, empathize, but definitely will not remain indifferent. You are waiting for pleasant moments of watching a great movie! Enjoy, laugh, cry, empathize!

I'm only writing about this movie now that Robin Williams has left his body. I just got my hands on writing about this work. This is my attempt to contribute to the praise of the talent of a wonderful actor.
Yes, there is a bit of pathos and some exaggeration in this movie, but for that it is a cinema. Where you need one scene to convey many different thoughts and feelings.
“If you treat a disease, you can win or lose. If you treat a person, you will surely win.
A wonderful film about a wonderful man! A beautiful hero, perfectly portrayed by Robin Williams! We have a lot to learn from him:
- To love people,
I love my job.
Going to your dream,
Always keep in mind the goal,
Be able to be yourself,
- accept yourself,
- to be honest,
Wanting to help others,
- be able to listen,
Be optimistic
- etc. etc. etc.
This movie is amazing! And I think I would agree that this is Robin Williams’ best performance. Blessed is his memory!
Few people enjoy going to the hospital to see a doctor. And not only because the cause is poor health caused by some disease. There's something about the hospital's very atmosphere that's depressing, discouraging any desire to spend an extra minute there. Where can we get the strength to recover, or how can we spend our last days in such a place without praying to leave the world as soon as possible, just to change this terrible situation? So the future doctor Patch Adams did not like such a mourning atmosphere in hospitals, and he decided that a little fun there would not hurt.
Based on an autobiographical book by an extraordinary doctor, director Tom Shadyak is filming a good-natured dramatic comedy about a simple truth that modern medicine often neglects and says that laughter is the best medicine.
Our job is to take care of our health. You know what that means? It means improving the quality of life, not just delaying death.
Unable to help himself and found himself in a psychiatric hospital, Hunter Adams discovers the ability to help others, those who do not need pills and injections alone. After leaving, he decides to continue helping people, and if this year he could open a questionable consulting practice, then in the 1970s he, despite his age, decides to go to study and become a real doctor. Only this can be considered a feat, and the way he, listening to his heart, struggles to find an approach to even the most introverted patients, whom nurses are afraid to approach, and demonstrates the inspiring courage and incredible power of laughter. This is not the first time Robin Williams has played a character who goes against the system, but it was this Patch Adams that allowed the actor to fully reveal himself as a mature comedian whose talent to make people laugh gave and will give so many smiles even in the most difficult times. Therefore, it is not surprising that this overly cheerful doctor with a big heart can easily become one of Williams’ most beloved characters.
Williams was joined in this film by actors Monica Potter, Daniel London and Philip Seymour Hoffman (one of his best secondary roles), playing more serious characters who came to the university to learn theory day and night, so that when it comes to practice, they could give the patient an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the right treatment. Of course, this zeal is necessary, because being a doctor is a huge responsibility. Being cool and impartial is also good in such a profession, but considering the patient solely as a set of cells, vessels and tissues, do not forget that he has feelings, and that sometimes his good mood can play a much more important role in recovery than all medications combined.
Good here and Bob Gunton, who played one of those characters that he gets so terribly convincing – self-centered conformist who does not want to consider any innovations, even if these innovations positively affect the health of patients. And the way the main character confronts him again and again, risking his future career, is admired.
From this film and blows optimism, it reminds that for a sick person can change a lot who will do something to cheer him up. After all, there are cases when drugs will not help a person, but laughter can make his last days better, brighter, and allow a person to enjoy life for the last time. And the events taking place here give a look at death not only as a tragedy, but also as something that should motivate a person not to waste his life, not to postpone the realization of his dreams and use any chance to help others.
Unfortunately, Patch Adams himself did not like the film, as did most critics, some of whom accused him of wilfully squeezing tears from the viewer. There really is one plot twist, from which tears come to your eyes, but it does not cross out, but successfully complements many other moments that cause a smile and laughter. Especially since that tragic turn was based on real events. In the finale, tears from pride and joy and in general from an overabundance of positive emotions appear, because after experiencing this, the main character still found the strength to realize his dream: to make the lives of patients not only healthier, but also happier.
In the medical journal write that laughter contributes to the release of catecholamines and endorphin, saturates the blood with oxygen, relaxes the arteries, speeds up the rhythm of the heart, reduces blood pressure, positively affects all cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. "
So let us not forget about this miraculous medicine called laughter, which not only favors the physical performance of our bodies, but also allows us not to lose heart in difficult times from the seemingly endless succession of injections, tablets and operations.
Is there any kindness in your life and do you appreciate it? Do you treat your neighbors with the trembling that you could? If smiling is so easy, why not give a smile to everyone? If it is so easy to give happiness a good joke, why are sayings, tales and philosophical reflections respected, listened to and read with more love than fairy tales and quality humorous stories? Is it possible that in the so-called “adult world” self-knowledge is limited to the framework of scrupulous study of sayings about the essence of being, problems and death that are important in this period of life?
It will be the first fun hospital in the world. The building is completely free-form. There will be slides, and secret passages, and rooms for games. We will treat pain and suffering with humor. Doctors and patients will work side by side as equals. There will be no titles, no bosses. People from all over the world will come here to fulfill their dream of helping others. It will be a place where joy is a way of life, where learning is the highest goal, where love is the main destination!
The comedy drama Healer Adams tells the story of a man who understood his purpose and found himself at a fairly mature age, and only after voluntary treatment in a psychiatric clinic. A man who saw a certain share of salvation in the joy that he is able to deliver to his patients only by appearance, sense of humor and diligent attempts, at least partially, but to fulfill the dreams of each patient. A man who changed lives at the risk of losing everything he has in his life.
I have infinite respect for the man on whose story this tape is based. I respect the character and spiritual strength through which he carried out what many people fear to bring to life. I respect the hope he brought to the hearts of the people he visited. I honestly cannot find words to describe how surprised I was by his attitude towards people whose days are numbered, including the individual approach with which he approached each patient.
It is possible to describe the actions of this person for an indescribable long time, and just as infinitely long you can describe each psychological component of the tape. It touched on everything from small to great, many topics about which reasoning will not cease even through the centuries, many questions, the answers to which not every person will find for himself and for a lifetime. Each scene gives its own ground for reflection in various areas of cognition and perception of life.
I can’t help but add to my review the words about the storyline of the heroine Monica Potter. A touching, piercing story that repeatedly made us cry.
I want to say a sincere thank you to a really great actor, Robin Williams. For the personification on the screen of this person, for sincerity in his game, for the feelings that he awakens her. It is very difficult to get used to the fact that this comic, good-natured uncle from childhood, in a state of prolonged depression, voluntarily died, hanging himself in his own house. And I want to highlight a couple of lines to thank him for each role that he gave the world, what he brought to this huge and incredible cinematic business, in this frightening and exciting world of cinema.

I couldn’t help but put the highest rating on the film, during which two tears came to my eyes. Play and words of actors, thrilling music and a plot about the nobility of the soul give rise to the brightest thoughts and pure dreams.
In my personal rejection of Robin Williams’ appearance, his acting talent deserves respect and admiration. He has appeared in at least two brilliant films, Awakening and Healer Adams, proving to humanity that caring for and believing in other people makes the world happy. Even a small, separate inner world.
People work in the circus or the theater, making people laugh from the heart, but each of us can do the same, and absolutely free. How often do we forget to please each other, even the closest people – smile and surprise, wish good morning or pleasant dreams, just hold hands and listen. It’s just... it’s very simple to cause a genuine smile on your face.

This film is nothing but a synthesis of the brightest feelings and qualities of a person - love, joy, compassion, care, kindness, friendship on this could end your review, because these words describe this film as best as possible, but still, this is not all I want to say.
The fact that this film is based on real events makes me think and find hope, and also inspiration, because if a person still has thoughts like Adams, we have hope, we are not hopeless, if there are still people whose minds are not clouded by hatred, indifference, false values fictions, instructions, dogmas and morals, we still have hope, and we cannot do without it.
I believe that everyone has their own vocation, their own destiny and purpose, so that's Adams' vocation to be a doctor, in the deepest sense of the word, because he heals people's souls, it's profound wisdom and all we need is love, love that does not lie but heals, this great gift to be needed and make people happy, because this also makes us happy, joy in the eyes of happy people makes us feel that you live not in vain, this is a sacred blessing.
Robin Williams is a genius, he is so bright and kind, I can not write about him as an actor and his character, I just do not turn the language, his play was so sincere, honest and soulful, there are simply no words. Daniel London, as a friend of the main character, also pleases with his simple, but still convincing game. Monica Potter, as a purposeful, somewhat obstinate girl looks interesting and pleasant. In the film, there are still many beautiful actors such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bob Gunton and many others, there is no point in listing them, their play is beautiful.
Tom Shadyak created a film that is difficult not to love, because everything that goes from the heart to the heart and reaches, the game of Robin Williams will live in my and your memory for a long time, and the story of the doctor who treated patients with a smile on his face sank into my soul, as a story of love, kindness, care and compassion, everyone who has not yet watched, I advise not to waste a minute, but urgently watch this masterpiece.

Laughter is the sun: it drives winter from the human face. (V. Hugo)
We live in a world where doctors are a profession. He examines us, prescribes treatment, prescribes medications. And often we come across the rudeness of doctors, and I've seen situations like this, where patients' complaints are reacted quite aggressively and impatiently. Why do people seek help from paid clinics? Not because there are more professional doctors. We pay money for polite and caring attitude to ourselves. Honestly, I don’t remember seeing a good doctor in a free hospital doing what he loves. Indeed, objective impartiality is present in all representatives of this profession.
But in the movie Healer Adams, we meet a man for whom a doctor is a calling. It is an opportunity to help people, listen to them, fulfill their dreams and illuminate their hearts.
In order to become a doctor, you need to learn to treat the patient, not just the disease. (c)
A wonderful and wise phrase. Dr. Adams decides to treat pain and suffering with humor. In our world, this idea seems like a utopia, but in fact there is deep wisdom in it. They say that laughter is the best medicine. Positive emotions are the key to recovery! In negative reviews, I read that Adams seemed to laugh at patients when they were sick! Nothing like that! He brought them joy, and for a while they forgot about their illness, distracted from their pain. And I'll go even further: laughter doesn't just distract you from your illness, it helps you get better! Therefore, this film should be seen by everyone! This is not a fairy tale - this is an effective technique thanks to which people are able to recover and get sick less often. You just need to fill your life with positive emotions!
Learn to see the world again! Every day... (c)
About actors, I can say that Robin Williams is perfect as a clown doctor - cute, funny, kind. He wants to believe and open his heart to him. I know that Robin Williams loves children, so he mostly acts with them or in films for them. In the scene where Adams begins to amuse seriously ill children, I see Robin himself, his sincerity. And the scene with the greeting of gynecologists - it's just necessary to see! I laughed to tears! The rest of the actors also coped perfectly, especially I want to mention Monica Potter. Her character was interesting and deep.
So I definitely advise you to watch this movie and get a lot of smart thoughts. I will conclude with the words of one French writer J. LaBruyer:
We will laugh without waiting for the moment when we feel happy, otherwise we risk dying without laughing.
So, sick, do not rush to run to the doctors and the pharmacy for expensive medicines. We can heal ourselves and our loved ones!

Above me is a blue sky... I can only see the sky. (c)
Hunter Adams became a psychiatric patient of his own free will, because he had no choice but to get rid of his tormenting depression. But it was in this sad place, faced with all the charms of official medicine, Hunter internally changed. Soon after becoming a student at a major medical university, Hunter decided to follow his path in medicine, offering innovative methods of treatment that go against official science.
The film directed by Tom Shadyak “Healer Adams” in 1998 is based on the biography of the real existing Hunter Adams, who proposed an innovative medical technique and survived many tragedies in his life. The picture masterfully combines the features of psychological drama, biopic and comedy, producing a strong impression even when rewatched, for the life of Hunter Adams is a struggle for his dream, love, for his right to be accepted and understood. The role of Hunter became one of the most noticeable and interesting in the career of Robin Williams, who showed brilliant dramatic talent in this film.
Monica Potter brilliantly played Hunter’s lover, an independent, intelligent girl whose life ended too suddenly. The amazing level of acting was also shown by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bob Gunton, Joseph Sommer and Peter Coyote.
Cinematographer Fidon Papamichael shot the film incredibly beautiful, bright and interesting, which is why the film delivers a strong aesthetic pleasure.
Composer Mark Shaman wrote an amazing, lyrical and gentle soundtrack for the film, which penetrates into the subcortex of the brain, forcing even more empathy for the main characters.
I recommend this amazing, at the same time funny, sad, and true film to all fans of good cinema.

Do you often help other people? And not at all in order that later, when arguing with your friend, you accidentally yell, reddened with anger, that the world is cruel, people are soulless, and you are a kind of virtue that even gave a poor old woman a couple of coins. Or, you know, so, sometimes to remember to amuse your pride, in the evening over a cup of tea remembering how yesterday they moved the old lady across the street.
And now you have to believe that the world is full of people who are ready to help without self-interest and any second thoughts. Simple. Take and help.
It would seem that could be easier? Give people joy and warmth. It's not unloading cars. It is really easy, but to shine, you need to light up, light up and, most importantly, do not go out.
Keep going. That's what this movie teaches us. Never give up or be afraid to be yourself. Let it be funny and strange, but yourself, not a caged bird.
There are many obstacles along this difficult path. Patch meets different people, different opinions and laws in his life, but remains true to himself. He is strong and ready to share this power with everyone. He's struggling, he's not standing still. He has dreams and goals.
Life is a struggle. Always a struggle. With yourself, with the laws, with society, and not so much with what. He who believes with all his heart will win. No matter what.
I originally wrote a very long and angry review full of spoilers and insults. Because this movie offended me. I was offended by the fact that someone took a scientifically meaningful, deeply spiritual theory, backed up by the hard work of a real person and turned it all into an annoying clown.
If you want to know the interesting story of a man who decided to help people regardless of their social status or wealth, as well as maintain a good sense of humor and establish an emotional relationship with patients that is a little deeper than sharing a bath with noodles, then read about the real Hunter Adams. What he does inspires, delights and delights.
If you want to know the story of a madman who thinks he has a sense of humor, puts on a red nose, annoys with his behavior almost every minute of screen time, then this film is for you. Patch here will steal medicine from the hospital, he will cheat on exams and prevent classmates from taking tests, trying to make them laugh, he will humiliate the real Hunter Adams from the first minute, to the last in which Williams will demonstrate his naked ass.
And the strangest thing is that I have no complaints specifically about the director, actors, operators, etc. They did well. Not great, but not bad. The film is dynamic, exciting, and enjoyable to watch (without getting into the meaning or using your brain). The music in the film seems so beautiful to me. But the writers of the script should be beaten. Feet. In the face. They wrote an uplifting, heart-warming story with a distasteful character insulting every doctor who has ever received this degree. And Hunter Adams in particular. If they wanted to tell a sweet story, why would they base it on reality? Not just slightly change the facts, but turn them upside down, openly lie and even change the sex of some participants in the events, just to fit in a love interest? It just doesn't make sense. They have turned an interesting, lively, worthy story into a barrel of the most nasty syrup that is forcibly poured down your throat.
The authors of the script for this film is a solid two, but the film barely pulls by one.
P.S. Seriously, if you’re fascinated by this movie, read about the real person it’s about. You might be ashamed. (Please be sorry for his dead girlfriend.)
I decided to write my review of “Healer Adams” after reading a negative user review under the nickname “4esn0k”.
Let me start, perhaps, with a slight criticism of the film: in the film I thought it illogical that during the meeting of the Medical Council and, so to speak, the trial of the main character on the table are glasses for water, but neither in them nor near water. Perhaps some people will consider it an attempt to find fault, and for me it is just an important detail for creating realism. Also, at the very end, the film is just full of pathos, and very unnecessary. To all this, I personally saw the understatement of the plot, the gaps in it had to be filled, but this is not a catastrophic mistake, which most viewers did not attach any importance. This is the end of all my complaints about the film.
I decided to watch the movie Healer Adams for several reasons: first, because of Robin Williams. Secondly, the crew, with excellent screenwriters led by Tom Shadyak (Ace Ventura: Pet Search, Liar, Liar, Bruce Almighty), inspired confidence and promised a good light comedy. And most importantly - I am close to the idea of the picture - a smile and a positive can be a lot.
A little bit about the idea
In the world there is a scientific hypothesis that all our diseases arise on nervous grounds, and people with positive thinking and mood get sick much less often than their antipodes. Plus, as my life practice shows, and many other positives attract the positive.
It is on this basis that the main character of the picture, and the idea of the film itself, seem to me quite logical, to refer to the fact that this biographical picture will not, since I can confidently say that biographical facts are embellished in any case.
As the hero of “Healer Adams”, Hunter Adams is already quite an old man who has a high level of intelligence and a sufficient number of enemies, because many people around him do not understand and consider him strange for this reason. As a human being, Hunter is a person who is so lacking in our lives, who gives more color to everyday life and would make our problems less difficult and bigger, because everyone knows that fear has big eyes. I believe that my words are confirmed by the scene in the ward with sick children, when Adams gives poor children a small ray of light and hope in their almost hopeless lives. And if there were people like Hunter Adams in our environment or family, or just people like Hunter Adams, our lives would be much easier, lighter, kinder and just more enjoyable.
Results
In general, a fairly good and life-affirming picture came out. Of course, in American pathos, but what without it?

P.S. I sincerely wish all the inhabitants of the planet to be like the main character of the film and thereby make the world a better place.
