The fourth part of the story about small demons. This time the directorial post was taken by Jim Wynorski (Jim Wynorski), whose creativity, of course, is very prolific, only with rare exceptions differs in quality with the presence of logic, when sometimes even sins overt soft porn for more than one year. Therefore, the knowledgeable viewer must be prepared for the coming. The style of the picture turned out to be noticeably thrashing, but not when it carries the semantic undertones of the grotesque mockery of the genre or something else, but only for the benefit of frequent absurdity and script absurdity, focused on clichés and simplification in the story. For example, the main villain of the tape is always dressed in black latex with a frank neckline, with high heels, a knife hangs on her belt, and so she walks that at night, that during the day through the streets! Of course, with one gesture of a fragile handle, he turns the necks of those who come across, shoots without a miss and the need for a sight, aptly throwing ... sharp shurikens! Someone such direction may disappoint, someone - to laugh, but, nevertheless, it is still quite natural, because the episode-precursor was already firmly based on the constant inflated nonsense of what is happening.
Purely on the plot in the first couples, the film turned out to be quite curious, showing the former center character from the initial original with the presence of the former actor. As we remember, he used to be a student who unknowingly practised Black Magic, but, realizing the dangers of power, he stopped experimenting with rituals. Now he noticeably matured, working in the field of catching various criminals, that is, being a police detective. I must say, the image came out a kind of “cowboy with a badge”, when around a bunch of beauties, the boss is a blonde model appearance (the name of the director here is almost a guarantor of such an aspect when casting actresses), in which diner do not go, so there is necessarily robbed and you need to heroize...
However, as it turned out, sometime in the past, he still returned to the path of witchcraft, having smoked well with his student, but then again came to his senses and actually appeared before us already a full positive character. In sum, it is somewhat strange, only the whole film - as mentioned earlier - is similar, here even the final fight will take place in the walls of the insane asylum, where patients have seized power. "How", "When" and "Why" the Revolution occurred - left behind.
From the above it turns out that the lion’s share of the story is surrounded by a plume of police history with quite everyday incidents with shootings and fights against criminals, conversations with the boss in love (the very blonde, athlete, beauty, etc.), and the investigation of incomprehensible things in the city, just related to the second storyline, where we see a lady in latex, killing everyone in a row and performing magical rituals.
By the way, this is the fourth part of the franchise about goblins, those very small creatures, the ugly kind that attack people. That's right, but now Wynorski has put them in a kind of background appendage. Thus, the monsters absolutely all the time up to the fleeting ending do not come into contact with our central hero, somewhere snoozing behind, getting into ridiculous bindings or simply walking (!?) through the day city in their guise with horns. And I must say this is not those creatures we remember, demons with bloodthirsty cravings, now they are cheerful talkers and jokers who flies will not offend! Technically, all puppet models are removed in the production, there are only two goblins and their Lilliputian actors play, issuing a comic tandem. As it is quite clear at this expense, the component of horror is eliminated to zero.
Summing up the text and impression of the movie, I note that as a horror film is untenable, as a police harsh story-detective also does not shine with the development of viewer attention to itself due to the through-to-the-point absurdities and liberties, the presence of goblin demons is equally passable, if you try to find humor, then sometimes it will be found in a couple or two sketches, though in a specific “flat” manner. Comism is the first successful (to varying degrees) facet of the work, the second will be banal interest in connection with the participation in the main part of the former character from the founder of the entire franchise, tracking his future fate.
And in general, such a ridiculous feeling, as if on the screen a children's fantasy, but in a cheap version, besides with the presence of quite unusual gags, where representatives of the oldest profession will appear on the road and several murders.
This part of the franchise finished its turn, and it is a pity that in the end lost all the successful specific findings of the series.
