I think the film needs no introduction, because this is one of the iconic comedies with Jim Carrey, even at the height of his career. I have known this actor since early childhood. Around the time of elementary school, I watched his first film, The Mask (the same year, by the way). It made a big impression on me, because I still consider it one of the funniest movies of all time (I’ll review it sometime). And I also remember “Bruce Almighty”, watched also in the early school years, which causes extremely pleasant sensations.
Now let’s move on to our main “starter” of the celebration. This comedy breaks many of the then frames and shows a whole range of all kinds of humor, starting with banal toilet, ending with complete immoral absurdity. The two main characters mix a seemingly ordinary and linear story so that it becomes impossible to predict further events. What is the range of jokes of the film, such is the spectrum of feelings it causes: from fun to disgust, and so on in a circle, not allowing the viewer to relax.
In fact, the film is not even about this, but about the unshakable friendship of two guys who were not separated by a single problem (albeit created by themselves). He also shows that happiness is not material goods, and that one can be cheerful without them.
Jim Carrey himself is playing his part here, clearly beyond what was required. Perhaps this was the key to success for the picture, especially among the masses. And in my previously mentioned “list to watch” there are several more films with him, mainly the 90s and 00s (including the second part, shot 20 years later). So we will have time to discuss in more detail, seeing Jim from many alternative angles.
Summing up, you can describe the film as a good comedy that can make a person laugh with absolutely any sense of humor. And indeed, it is perfect for passing the time, relaxing. Its purpose is to distract and cheer up, and this film does a great job, so it will definitely brighten up the evening.
A nimble boy from Newmarket, Canada, who grew up in a van instead of a house, dropped out of school to clean toilets at a titanium wheel factory, compensated for his ADHD with unimaginable curves, booed on his first stand-up, grew up and became great. A phenomenally successful comedian and just a great actor, one of the best in his generation.
I remember in the mid-90s in video rentals caught movies with Jim Carrey. They were in their arms all the time! Buying or recording "Dumb and Dumber" was known as a lucky person, who in school was constantly defeated: "Give, give, give!" And the cassette - already worn - with, of course, a nefarious translation and the label on the sticker - 'super comedy' - went hand-in-hand and was re-recorded until a complete loss of consumer value.
And while Dumb and Dumber is definitely not a children's film, it's been loved since childhood, and - yes - it's one of the most beloved comedies so far. Comedy, in which almost every joke works, which is very rare, because humor ages quite quickly. And only a real work of art can fight with time.
“Here you go!” said a Bergmanophile. "Dumb and Dumber" is a work of art? A slutty comedy about two idiots with farts and dead parrots in the hands of blind children, which openly indulges the tastes of the most undemanding audience. Art?
But it's not that simple. Is ‘Dumb and Dumber’ Really a Stupid Movie? Let me remind you that it came out a few months after Forrest Gump, which established a fashion in the cinema for the most distant hero who gets everything from life. The heroes of “Dumb and Dumber” are the same “forest fools” deprived of everyday acumen. In fact, Harry and Lloyd are children, Enfant Terrible, continuing the traditions of Bill and Ted and Wayne's World. They see the world like a child, joke about children, dream like a child and all the humor of the film is built on situations in which an adult would never get. But is Lloyd's instant love for a girl who just didn't send him to . . . after the first words so different from Chaplin's Little Tramp's love for a blind flower girl? Both are absolutely innocent of their motives and both are ready for feats that no “sound, rational, pragmatic adult” will perform.
At its core, Dumb and Dumber is a reimagining of any decent romcom in which a poor loving knight performs exploits for the sake of his passion and defeats the dragon. It's also a wonderful road movie and, of course, a friendship movie. Harry and Lloyd's friendship is the only thing they have. It would have been some Gaswasentian loneliness if these guys hadn't had each other. There's a spark between Carrey and Daniels, these people are having fun together and they're broadcasting it across the screen. Everything around them is a huge hostile world in which they have to survive, clinging only to friendship. They have no families, no one loves them, no one needs them, their skills are minimal, and their naivety is overwhelming. If it weren’t so funny, it would be tragic.
But, despite their hopeless lives, Harry and Lloyd infect with optimism, and despite some - again absolutely childish displays of cruelty - they are not evil and have a lot to love. For sincerity in all manifestations, for readiness for self-sacrifice for the sake of love and friendship, for inability to be discouraged, for selflessness, which, again, is akin to Little Tramp.
Yes, the humor of the Farelli brothers, then debutants in a big movie - not always Chaplin level, but corresponds to the time. Did Chaplin make his films as masterpieces? No, the time he conquered made them masterpieces. At the same time, it was just successful good talented comedies that made the audience laugh and cry – exactly what makes Dumb and Dumber.
Without realizing it, the characters defeat experienced killers, which brings them together with the “Tall Blonde” and “Umbrella Prick”, and the Farelli brothers, despite their inexperience, turn out to be excellent directors, skillfully mastering the rhythm of comedy, letting the plot exactly as many jokes as necessary, not letting the viewer rest and at the same time not filling it with a bunch of gags. Despite the assurances of some critics, I do not find this film vulgar. Because the vulgar is, above all, not funny. That's funny. Sometimes with facepalm, but still funny.
The film has a very kind, positive, solar energy, and it's very spontaneous. I mean, there's a lot of comedies that try to make fun of themselves, but there's a sense of improvisation, of spontaneity, of the truth of life, probably because it was made by people who were good friends.
And, of course, the most important thing is the actors. You can talk a lot about the script, about the genre and rude humor, but all this would not matter if in the place of these actors were other, less bright and talented. This is more of a Kerry movie than Daniels. He is the driving force and the plot driver, behind his frenzied energy, facial expressions and hinged plasticity, crown improvisations, Daniels is not something that gets lost, just, shall we say, catches the balls Kerry throws him. Daniels is an intelligent, rare charming actor, subtle, 'Vudiallenian', seemingly alien to Currie's clowning. But he also created the image of a good-natured slob, a fool with a heap of straw hair on his head, a kind of "Fearsome" without brains, but with a kind heart, ready to follow his friend into fire and water. And in general, it is difficult to find a more harmonious and harmonious duet! Jim and Jeff act as a Carpenterian 'something', as a single organism, where each word and action of one finds an instant response from the other. Of course, they are in the same row as De Funes-Bourville, Curtis-Lemmon, Richard-Depardieu, Renaud-Clavier, and this is a very good company!
The cherry on the cake is a huge success for viewers who have been making the film to the lists of the best and most-most for several decades. Love cannot be faked, it is either there or not. You can give an average movie an Oscar, but you can't make it love. You can’t make people laugh sincerely, reliving the adventures of two such strangers and at the same time such close to the whole world fools! Only works of art can do this – cultural objects that outlive their time and find an emotional response in people years later. And so "Dumb and Dumber" - a stupid comedy with ridiculous characters, farts and "the most disgusting sound in the world" - a work of art and absolutely piecework. Farrelly was never able to repeat his first film. They did a lot and different things, but they entered the history of cinema with this film, which taught many directors of the next generation a real eccentric comedy.

Once upon a time, it was one of my favorite movies. Alas, since then, Kerry has gone wrong and the Americans have turned out to be the wrong funny dudes. So I'm afraid to reconsider. In general, a light and stupid comedy. You can see it.
You know what I'm tired of, Harry? I’m tired of constantly interrupting myself in this life, I’m tired to death of being nobody, but most of all I’m tired of not having anyone.
Dumb and Dumber, 1994.
I have nothing to write about this movie. Funny and stupid comedy that you can just look, so to speak, in the lungs, relax and forget. That’s why my friend and I watched this movie.
This is an absurd story with ridiculous and amusing situations going on after each other, where the main characters achieve their intended goal on pure (stupid) innocence and luck. The film is the epitome of the phrase: “Fools are lucky.”
Maybe there's some deep meaning here... But in fact, the comedy was created purely to beat, nothing more (I think it is). It flashes references to movies, Jim Carrey's 'magnificent curves', the 'magic' of two fools and a happy ending. The film even has alternative endings!
What else can I say, pure comedy. In general, it will come down to once to look at the company, and giggle.
Comedy for all time is definitely about “Dumb and even dumber”, because this film, even despite very tough jokes sometimes, is so stuffed with gags that can burst at the seams!
In those years, when there was no Internet, this film “virused” through VHS – watching his classmates dragged the picture to the phrases and those who had not yet had time to see the story about two stupid friends, tormented by envy, because for example, the words “Excuse, Flo” seemed to sound fun, but it was not clear where they came from.
Lloyd Christmass (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunn (Jeff Daniels) are inseparable friends and there are no days to be sad. Even if they were a little smarter, there would be reasons for sadness. However, sadness is not about them!
Funny enough, the Farrelly brothers paid almost half of their budget to Jim Carrey, whose quotes on the acting exchange jumped sharply after the resounding success of Ace Ventura, which was released in February 1994, as well as Masks (July 1994). Initially, the salary of the actor was supposed to be “only” 700 thousand, but increased 10 times!
All three films grossed more than 700 million in total and it is not surprising that Jim Carrey immediately broke into Hollywood, becoming one of the highest paid actors of the time!
But Jeff Daniels agents persuaded not to star in the film Farrelly brothers, saying that participation in this comedy will destroy his career. To which Daniels told them that his decision was final, and if it was a mistake, he must make it himself.
And this duet turned out great! There’s also Kerry’s obvious No. 1 dummy, but Daniels’ character doesn’t lag behind him! These two in the frame create a harmonious picture of utter idiocy and the viewer can only wonder: and the truth – which of them is dumber? Lloyd or Harry?
However, this duet may not have been. At one time, the Farrelly brothers were considering Corey Feldman for the role of Lloyd and Corey Haime for the role of Harry. But New Line Cinema CEO Robert Shay did not allow it, believing both Coreys were no longer in-demand actors. And to imagine them in such roles - to be honest - the brain does not turn. But Harry and Lloyd could also play Nicholas Cage and Gary Oldman.
For brothers Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly, this film became the debut in a full-length movie, which is quite symbolic, because for Tom Shedjak, Ace Ventura: Pet Search was also the first. Carrey starred in both, and all three directors clearly did not regret that Jim worked for them. After all, Kerry himself woke up famous. Therefore, this cooperation can be called successful for everyone!
Dumb and Dumber is certainly not the most intellectual comedy. On the contrary, it can just be called stupid, with a share of toilet humor, black humor. However, it does not cause rejection. Perhaps because fools are not offended and “what to take from them”. Lloyd and Harry are stupid, but they are harmless and so kind. .
The film itself is for all time!
Facts:
- Woody Harrelson has revealed that he and Peter Farrelly were roommates when both began their careers. Peter Farrelly wanted to invite Harrelson to Dumb and Dumber, but Harrelson said they should play a pool game. If Harrelson wins, he won’t be in the movie, and if Farrelly wins, he’ll be making the movie. Harrelson won, so he didn't appear in the film.
- The film starred professional hockey player Cam Neely (at that time a player of the Boston Bruins), who played a trucker. At the time of the release of the film, two hockey players played in the National Hockey League - Jim Carey (at that time the goalkeeper of the Washington Capitals) and Jeff Daniels (in the season 94-95 played for the Florida Panthers). By the way, Jim Carey, because of the similarity in the spelling of his surname with actor Jim Kerry, received nicknames from fans: The Mask, Ace and The Net Detective.
- It's funny, but if Mary married Lloyd and took his last name, her name would be Mary Christmas.
The final shot, where Harry and Lloyd walk alone on the highway in an unknown direction as the final credits begin, is a reference to the western genre, where the cowboy leaves the city, returns to the desert and moves on.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
One of the first films with Jim Carrey, which literally set the tone for all the upcoming works of the expressive comedian. Also, the tape can be called a kind of classic of modern sketch comedies. And even to some extent "smart" cinema.
Peter Farelli did a great job and created a formatted picture for the viewer, in which everything is subordinated to one, the most important goal - to mix. There is no oversaturation, no dullness, nothing molds or sparkles. The main task of the director was literally, like a marker, to highlight the humorous duo and all their comedy sketches. Successful installation in a coupe with the correct setting of the frame achieves just the desired effect. Hoodpost is also an advantage of the picture, for it takes the viewer filigree into the atmosphere of middle-class America, roadside cafes and dirty toilets. The segment with the elitist life also looks authentic.
Of course, the main advantage of the film is the tandem of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. The chemistry between these two is exceptionally real, and so strong that you involuntarily begin to become obtuse, looking at the adventures of the hapless couple. Thank goodness it was temporary, I checked it out. Even more, the comedic genius of Carrey and Daniels underscores that a significant amount of jokes in the film were pure improvisation. This fact is not surprising, for real humor, in whatever form it may be, is born in the moment.
And to understand the statement I made about “smart” cinema, it is worth delving into the story told to the viewer. If we omit the tooth-crushing madness, which overflows almost every second of timekeeping, we will see a rather instructive morality about friendship. The fact is that most of the film tells the story of two freaks, outcasts of society with their special view of life, who found each other. If they fight, it's because of the main engine of the plot - stupidity. They have sincere negative feelings, as well as a desire to harm them. Yes, short-sightedness often leads to conflicts, but nothing goes beyond childhood grievances, which are almost immediately forgotten. It seems to me that this view of life should be borrowed by many. As a result, having passed a joint test, during which everyone had to overcome themselves, our heroes remain together. Even the femme fatale, as is usually the case, did not separate them. What is not a beautiful morality in the form of idiocy bordering on medical diagnosis?
To be honest, not everyone can recommend this film. It requires a strong tolerance for naive stupidity and an incredibly subtle ability to be frivolous, while remaining focused on what is happening. Or you could just be stupid.
So I decided to write a review of the movie Dumb and Dumber. I love Jim Carrey very much, but this movie with him disappointed me. . .
The plot is built around two rather comic guys Lloyd Crismas and Harry Dunn, who constantly get into ridiculous situations, and the characters themselves look appropriate to their behavior. One day at the airport, a girl forgets her suitcase and our heroes decide what? That's right, find her and give her back the lost thing. In good faith, Lloyd and Harry pick up a suitcase that contained a ransom for the girl’s husband. Events are fueled by the fact that Lloyd fell in love with her.
Honestly, I really liked the plot seed, and I thought I would spend the next hour and a half riding around the floor laughing, but no. The main problem with this film is humor. He's as low-grade as possible, and most importantly, not funny. The directors ruined a very promising story with silly jokes. I would call this genre thrash comedies. And this is clearly not my genre, because I am not funny.
There are no complaints to the actors - Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were perfectly able to play such stupid heroes, and this also requires not a dozen talents. But their characters do not catch me personally, you do not imbue them with their images.
I really appreciate good music in movies, but as for the music, I have mixed feelings. It seems to be quite not bad, but not so much to listen to it just like that. Basically, it's faded like the whole movie. Put it away and nothing will change, and the music should contribute to the immersion in history.
It's probably just not my genre. Carrie's The Mask is one of my favorite movies. “Dumb and dumber” can be seen once, but here is the second time to review it you will hardly want.

I've been looking at vacations in NG, but I haven't really looked at them for a hundred years. There are some jokes, but I will not recommend it to anyone for sure - it went and stupid.
Jim Carrie's Week No. 1 film. So I began to review the comedies of this great comedian.
This is Jim's first film that I watched in snippets on cassette in 1995, so I lost the thread of storytelling I could use to evaluate the film. I didn’t really regret not reviewing it. That same year, the Mask came out.
'25 years - you're a brake ' friends would say now and laugh. But I kind of put off that moment and wanted to study the film. And I realized why I wasn't funny watching this movie.
It is strange to hear praise for this film. Some call it almost a milestone in the cinema. But I've seen funnier.
Let’s be honest and objective: the movie is an ordinary road movie, where the limousine driver Lloyd accidentally meets a beautiful stranger and finds that she has forgotten the Magic Suitcase. He and his friend Harold will do anything to find the girl (and tell the Kunaki a joke) and return the suitcase. But along the way, the heroes get into different situations and open the case.
Here above already noted a peculiar ' toilet ' humor and in my opinion not funny moments, like in the scene with a blind boy. Or the scene with the owls and Harold on the toilet. Looking at all this, I wasn't really funny about a comedy with Jim Carrie. Although I think it's not Carrie's fault, it's the writers' fault.
In conclusion, the film is bad. Not a failure, but with big flaws. Plus I would put the heroine Lauren Holly for having retained dignity in such an unworthy film.

Did you sell a dead parrot to a blind boy?
(About the 20th minute of the film)
Dumb and Dumber
In case you haven’t forgotten, this year’s Oscar was the Green Book. Who took it? Peter Farrely is one of the creators of this comedy. Am I happy for Farrelly? Absolutely. A curious moment - between the paintings really skip similar notes. See for yourself, in the movie “Dumb and Dumber” – the main characters, more than half of screen time, go by car (from point A to point B, roughly speaking).
What is going on in the Green Book? A similar situation. It's very funny actually. And the funniest thing is that the Green Book featured quite hilarious sketches (after all, Farreli is a comedian by nature, although he shot a drama). In “Dumb and Dumber” – on the contrary, insanely funny comedy, but for some reason it becomes sad (especially closer to the end – pinched, pinched, pinched...).
I recommend watching both films, of course, and now let’s talk about the debut picture of the Farrely brothers “Dumb and Dumber”. The first pancake is always a lump - clearly not about her! "Dumb and Dumber" was a hundred percent successful. One of the funniest comedies of the '90s. Russian film lovers watched in the days of cassettes translated by Gavrilov. Perfectly selected cast.
I can't imagine a movie without Carrie and Daniels. They're pretty damn charming. Magnificent dash bright tandem, played at an exorbitant level. Some say humor is disgusting. Include any modern comedy, Dumb and Dumber will seem like an innocent prank at all – with these dreams of Carrey’s hero fighting a cook. And all the vulgarity of the picture, putting hand on heart, you can justify - you laugh and even very much.
Carrey’s character and Daniels’ character are kind and a little naive people who look like grown-up children (you won’t believe Harry, I was robbed by an old woman)! The film got a good box office, and now it has become a comedy classic. Personally, I must review it every two years. Never get bored. “Dumb and Dumber” is a part of childhood.
P.S.
Policeman on the road - a-hee-hee, no words, poor guy ...

And Jim Carrey and Jeffrey Daniels as restless (but very smart) boys can forgive everything. Including participation in this "convulsive" comedy of the brothers Farrelly. Acting and mimic gift performers of the main roles are not deprived definitely, and therefore even the most toilet chochma is smoothed due to the professional submission of the latter.
The very appearance of Harry and Loyd is a creepy facepalm, which initially adjusts to the desired way: fans of extreme stupidity arrange more comfortable, and the rest finish watching the debut picture of the directors in the first minutes. And that's a good thing, because "Dumb and Dumber" is a name that speaks for itself and is not at all "subtle." Screenwriters descend to the level of jokes about disabled people, fools, rich people and crime. A complete set, where, among other things, animals also suffer (only in the frame, of course). And here we can compare the Kevin Smith with his two "bumps", where the chart "pros and cons" Jay and his Silent Bob are a dozen steps down. This is explained by the fact that Farrely’s film can be called, if not the standard of that “toilet humor”, then a classic and verified example of it. After all, even the stupidest humor can be thoughtful and appropriate and here all this is.

Aspen is a city in Colorado, perfect for skiers. For all those who are familiar with the picture of the Farrelly brothers (Peter and Bobby) "Dumb and Dumber", Aspen is the end point of his journey, the place where the characters of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunn.
But if I go back a few decades, I’ll find myself in the company of a friend I grew up with. He had already seen the movie and decided to show it to me. I remember laughing like crazy back then. I roared hysterically with jokes below the waist, with plowing and with toilet humor. I laughed and wasn't ashamed of it. And immediately, immediately, I readily speak of the natural nature of this laughter. There was no laughing machine when you were “forced” to laugh, and then you were ashamed of it. Everything is pure and at ease. (By "purity" I mean the origin of "laughter from the soul").
I cannot agree with the critic Sergey Kudryavtsev, who in his book “3500 reviews” says that, they say, the plot in such paintings is not the root cause. It is. He is almost always in almost every movie. Anyway, "Dumb and Dumber" has a good plot for twisting and twisting for the plot.
A careless limousine driver (as he is called in "Viki") Lloyd falls in love with one of his passengers at first sight. And so he sees that at the airport, where he gave Mary Swanson a ride, the girl left the case. He, in the simplicity of his heart, slipped between two people (whom this case was intended for) and picked up the same case, in order to immediately return it to its owner. He didn't dream of interfering in a story. Or, to put it simply, it’s a mess.
Harry Dunn is a friend of Lloyd’s who transports dogs in a dog-style minibus. And this machine-dog will forever be remembered by viewers who have seen this film at least once! Both boys: Lloyd with a hairstyle like Ivanushka, a fool and shaggy, always disheveled Harry will soon decide: take the suitcase to Aspen (because that’s where Mary Swanson flew), in order to personally transfer this diplomat from hand to hand. If only they knew what was in it. . .
In this film, everything is built in such a way that there are no extra frames and scenes here. Even before the tape turns into a road movie, the creators have found how to make fun of their audience. It's about the Pitti parrot.
But here's the road. I don’t know why, but I always have a lot of respect and interest in movies where people travel. And I would say that “the journey itself is always more pleasant than the arrival”, but “Dumb and Dumber” can send this postulate through the forest. Because after you get to Aspen, nothing will end. (Although 2/3 of the film will pass).
But I'm getting ahead. "Acre Corner" says that Lloyd's broken tooth is nothing more than the starkness of the actor himself. For Mr. Krivlyak of all time, this moment makes it even more organic. It so happens that even behind the scenes, Lloyd could lose part of his tooth due to his eccentricity. Just remember how weird they were. Oh, those idiots... The way they extinguished hot pepper with ketchup and mustard became a parable in the tongue. And a meme for all time. But-- Sometimes they are not as stupid as the title says. It is still to think of a scheme tried in a diner with payment of the bill ...
Yes, the heroes also have great luck. But the lucky one. But the scene in the bathroom at 02:15 is out of the ordinary! There are two ways to look at it. Did what was written on the toilet wall happen? There are two versions. One of them is truncated, the other says the opposite.
But the main thing is different. No matter how stupid the main characters are, a real friendship from the category “not spilling water” is shown! In the course of the action, we will see mutual resentments against each other, but it is much more important that these two will always come to each other’s rescue.
So on a serious note, I'd like to end with my impressions of this painting. It is far from stupid, despite the fact that the word sounds twice in the title (the second even enhances the effect of the first). There are also more wacky movies (including those featuring Jim Carrey), which are purely for “beating.” Dumb and Dumber is not a stupid movie. It does not humiliate the main actors. He doesn't mock them. It feels like a line that the creators have not crossed. They didn't move because they felt it too. And the toilet humor? I'm not a prude. And I laughed the most at the moment with a broken toilet and a “done job”! I don’t even want to admit it...
And the film gave rise to the animated series (which I learned only recently), and the prequel (which is terrible in nature). And many years later, there was a full return of that . Harry and that Lloyd.
"Dumb and Dumber" I watched out of respect for Jim Carrey, who is my favorite actor and expected to see a cool, funny cult comedy. After watching, I think Dumb and Dumber is one of the most vulgar comedies I've ever seen.
This comedy can be described in two words: boring and sloppy. First of all, it's really stupid and vulgar humor. Yes, I laughed at the joke they paid at the diner or at the joke about the suitcase:
Did you see what was in it?
- You what? A true gentleman does not look at women's things.
- It's locked.
- Yes
The rest of the humor is stupid. The stupid joke about how they urinated a cop, I looked at it and I thought, what's so funny? If you did this gag in a Russian comedy, so that some Yunusov gave a bottle of urine to a policeman, it would be called vulgar, but from the hands of Jim Carrey it is ridiculous! Or what's funny about these two sitting in a hot tub and Lloyd saying, "I'd roast you if you had boobs," man, what gay hints. And so on, the humor here is very stupid and vulgar and do not justify it by the fact that the main characters are stupid, the humor is still idiotic, for example, how they swallowed the sauce.
So this is a comedy, and it's really boring. There is no movement, no intrigue, everything is terribly boring. I was already asleep in the middle and couldn’t want to turn off the cult comedy.
You know, Dumb and Dumber is one of the dumbest comedies I've ever seen. Not only is it boring to the point of not getting any worse. Watch "American Pie" there vulgar humor really managed to make funny.

Fear and Loathing in Aspen, or Journey to the Center of Unheard-of Dullness
Here it is, it turns out, that stupid American comedy, whose name has become a household name. To say I didn’t like the movie is to say nothing. A worthy competitor to this film masterpiece from what I saw earlier will be, perhaps, only “Meet the Fockers”, which I, however, mastered only half.
I understand that the purpose of this film was to create "absolute rust," something very stupid and vulgar, and at the same time insanely funny. No, no, and no. This is not funny, although the disgust was well worked out, and the faces were curled from the heart. Jokes here only pretend to be funny, they are extremely stupid, bland and primitive, there is no intrigue in the plot, the characters do not cause any interest, sympathy or sympathy. The film itself is bland, tasteless, boring and drawn-out. All the twists, grinds and “ridiculous” actions of the characters are unnatural, tortured, intentional. Outright clowning, and clowning is disgusting. The whole plot is built on squeezing more concrete rumble from the viewer, it completely lacks emphasis on something else. Even the presence of a love line does not save him. What can we say about the very nature of humor, toilet humor is generally not a very worthy achievement of culture, but sometimes it is acceptable in the general context. But not in this movie, he cuts his eyes like never before. Ew, in a word! And to tell the truth, you expect something from the dialogue of the characters, but there are no meaningful dialogues! Maybe everything that happens in the film is explained by the exceptional stupidity of the characters. Perhaps, but the poor quality of the film does not justify it. I won’t say anything about actors. I don’t know much about Jim Carrey until I don’t like him, although he’s certainly a talented person. Maybe one day I’ll get to know his later dramatic work.
I watched the movie hard, mostly to have the right to say everything I think about it. Well, hope died last, waiting for something good to come along that would change the picture. It didn't appear.
In conclusion, the title of the film reflects its content, and in the worst sense. Decide, ladies and gentlemen, whether it's worth seeing. If you dare, be careful with hot drinks, cigarettes and food, there are many really nauseating moments in the film, there is a risk of burning yourself, choking, choking, etc. Oh, yes, there are still scenes of animal cruelty, for which a couple of points are minus.

Just because people were working on it, they probably tried.
Well, God, what do you expect from a film of the nineties with such a “loud” title, and even with Jim Carrey in the title role? Of course, a lot of "sort" humor, curvatures, mooing, almost "fart". Because when you were a kid, you probably saw this movie, and the worst part is that you remember mostly those qualities of the movie. And they really are here, there is no escape from this.
But reviewing the film today, when I am already 25 years old, I am a certified doctor, it is difficult not to note that comedy is not from the category of “poor” and “dumb”, which today make packs both here and abroad. The film contains a lot of jokes.
Yes, I repeat, there are “gags” with “fart”, Jim Carrey most of the time is twisted (which is actually great for him), jokes below the belt are also present. But beyond that, a bunch of witty ridicule, comic situations, a bunch of dialogue jokes and even parody moments.
The movie is for almost any comedy lover. You can relax and laugh at "low" jokes, or you can sit in concentration, "catch" witty jokes, smile and laugh in places in your voice. The Farelli brothers managed to find a unique middle ground in this “assortment of jokes.”
And by the way, for me, Jeff Daniels' character was more funny than Kerry's. Of course, in the duo they are much cooler.
From the details: Lauren Holly was a thing in her youth, a great hit with Aspen in terms of the city and great soundtracks.
One of the funniest and brightest comedies:
The story is about two friends, Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels), who cannot solve their problems. In order to change their lives, they decide to go to Aspen, where Lloyd lives, who, according to Lloyd, will help them settle their lives. Since this is a comedy, and even with Jim Carrey, you need to understand that this is the smallest part of the plot, so as not to spoil the impression of the film.
In general, in technical terms, it is not believed that this is a 1994 film, since the quality of the picture is good even by the standards of today's films.
The movie is really funny! In the film there are jokes that will make the viewer laugh to stomach pain. Jim Carrey lived up to my expectations. He played on all 100 of 10, crooking and joking in each frame, which suggests 'animal' a laugh that, unconditionally, speaks to his talent. In this film, Jim played not alone, but in a duet. In the duet, he was given actor Jeff Daniels, who played no worse than Jim, and even better in his own way. But they cannot be compared, since each of them has its own comic image and style.
The movie is very funny. The time spent will not go to waste, since you are in a good mood. In some moments, the creators overdo the jokes, but they look more less appropriate against the background of all the other jokes in this film.
Good to see you!
A completely uncouth eccentric comedy, which (using the richness of Russian suffixes) should have been translated as “Dumb and Dumbest”, was released in America for Christmas and the next ten weeks stayed there in the top ten rentals, eventually beating the box office two other hits with Carrie – “Mask” and “Ace Ventura”.
So in the same year, the stars of Jim Carrie and the Farelli brothers rose. But in this case, the mutual success was also determined by a successfully found partner - Jeff Daniels, who fit into the film so successfully that one can only regret that in the future the brothers directors refused to exploit this tandem again. The essence of this story is traditionally uncomplicated.
Two friends carry a suitcase full of banknotes across the country, followed by gangsters, who, in fact, this money was intended for, and naturally, everything happens on the way. Compared to Carrie's other two hits, this one stands out with a markedly large number of scabies, which has become a trademark of the anti-correct production brothers.
It was the brutal male, if not sailor, humor that made them cult figures of the era of political correctness. The brothers here make fun of everything that is possible and impossible, and in the credits deliberately make grammatical mistakes. Despite the far unromantic plot twists and turns, in the process of filming Carrie and Lauren Holly began a novel, which then lasted more than a year.
There was such a great era in the history of two competing superpowers - the Nineties. In Russia, according to the millions of vanilla posts on VKontakte, it was a cocktail of walks in the yards, Sega, Zuko with Invait and candies made of burnt sugar; when the heroes returned home, they were waiting for the supreme god – a video recorder and an apostle – VHS, revealing the secret of the same era, only from across the ocean. Never again in America will make such a comedy: the great Nineties, leaving, took everything with them, offering instead sperm, vomit and shit - three slugs, which for at least fifteen years trying to hold American entertainment cinema. It is not for nothing that the film companies refused Farrely in a wide promotion of the second part of "Dumb" released in 2015 - then time is definitely and irretrievably lost. The main audience of cinemas - teenagers - no longer need jokes on which their older brothers and parents grew up; the current "comedy" hero sits on the throne of senseless obscenities, and in his hands holds someone's anus and faloimitator. And alas, this has led to the fact that at the moment even a genius like Kerry as a comedian is almost obsolete. The modern viewer needs – strangely enough – to have a brain in order to properly perceive “Dumb and Dumber” and enjoy it.
The movie is good. Even though 92 percent of reviewers caresses it, it doesn’t become overrated. Yes, there is a very specific toilet humor. Yes, it's #typicalAmerican comedy. But this is the Nineties, which means that any eccentric antics of the writers are automatically harmonious. Everything is carefree, everything is innocent, everything is fun (except for a couple of inappropriate jokes about killed animals); it is with this main task that the tape copes with hurrah – it is fun. There is no film with Sandler, Stiller and others so tasty in the soundtrack, such landscapes, such childishly ridiculous situations and such charming jerks as Harry and Lloyd; there is no shyness about the vile sexual jokes that our today’s heroes, which is natural, do not spoil the viewer at all.
A piece of a unique era, when films of any genre, already being in its own way whippy and shocking, still had, nevertheless, meaning and fully justified their two-hour timekeeping. If you are interested in the latest history of American cinema – do not miss one of the classic modern comedies, a big step in the career of the once beloved J.K. K. If you just want to have a good time, look anyway. The mood is falling.
PS. And yes, a special thanks for the chic ending that brings out the whole film after some modest flaws.
Translation is important in this film. The most correct is a good old translation of the mid-90s with NTV such a half-nasty voice. Most of the jokes were remembered in that version (where ' chic-chik I'm in the house / twice chic-chik and the key lost / can not be chic-chik by two multiplied ' - more in any version this moment is not correctly translated, but in English this place is generally a garb).
The second is music. It creates a unique atmosphere of this film.
The third is the main character game. When you look at their faces, it’s like they’re real and just born to play those roles.
The fourth is the atmosphere of kindness as in old Soviet comedies.
Well, a plot in which there are no boring places and long moments, and jokes pour one after another.
It’s hard to say which moment in the movie is your favorite. It is perceived holistically as a parallel universe of two idiot friends.
Yes, ' toilet ' there's plenty of humor here. But even he is kind and used to the place.

With a typically American humour that seems really funny to them. Each country, each mentality has its own specific humor and understanding: our jokes are often incomprehensible to them, and theirs to us, etc. It's no secret. But there are universal films that everyone laughs at, regardless of the country of production. Unfortunately, this product does not apply.
All the jokes seemed flat and stupid, consistent with the title. They consisted mainly of fools and make-up by two idiots. Their actions are not just “dumb,” but even in some ways immoral (to take the same dead parrot and blind child). I am used to laughing a little at others. And all this galimatia has never made you laugh from the heart, but the charge of abomination is provided - what is worth one juicy hamburger.
I didn’t want to believe that I was a failure. Such a sensational film, so many enthusiastic reviews... The beginning was inconclusive, but I kept waiting: suddenly there was something worthwhile ahead. Ahn no. Soon I was completely disappointed. Until the very end of the minute, the film went on the principle of "dumb and even dumber."
Jim Carrey's game is good. He played his part well (as he always does), despite the crazy scenario. But in general, the film could not save even the brilliant Jim. Although -- it's like watching. How many fans would this creation have had without Kerry in it?
I want to do something positive. This guy can learn to be optimistic:
What are my chances?
- Not very good.
- Is this one of a hundred?
- I would say one in a million.
- So you say there's a chance? Yeah!
To watch only those who like flat American humor, made not of decent jokes, but of fooling around with idiots.
Brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly are the real kings of vulgar comedy with meaning. In their films, the need to develop a plot constantly competes with the desire to shoot something like that. They reached their apogee in “Everything is crazy about Mary”, where the trouble with the width was successfully combined with attempts to win the heart of a stunning beauty. And then it went downhill. It all started with Love Is Evil with Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow. Jack is subjected to a kind of “backsight” spell – he now sees people according to their inner world. In this state, he falls in love with Gwyneth, unaware that she has serious problems with excess weight. After some time, there comes a moment with a change in the size of flying underpants, which can cause psychological trauma to people with a nervous constitution. Because it's just not funny... Well, "Unmarried Week." The concept that wives give their righteous seven days to go free without consequences is already strange. They should have gone to a psychologist.
The story of two high-aged boobs Harry and Lloyd, who go on a journey to return a found case, which was supposed to serve as a ransom for a kidnapped husband, was filmed at the very beginning of the creative path of the directors and is very different from subsequent works. For non-fans of toilet humor, this is a real treasure. Everything in this respect is somehow even noble. The same sudden diarrhea is not so disgusting. Of course, there's an episode of a Highway Patrol officer stopping Harry and Lloyd. He sees many open bottles, does not believe in the sobriety of the main characters, decides to try one of the bottles. Yeah. At least this is better than flying cowards, and the attention is still more focused on the adventures themselves, rather than specific jokes.
The script for Dumb and Dumber looks like it came out of the eighties. It was the time of comedy fighters, a vivid example of which are “Twins” and “Kindergarden policeman”. Not for nothing, when Lloyd Crismas picks up an abandoned case at the airport, the sixth sense is that Iron Arnie is wandering around with his huge gun in search of another scoundrel. Instead of a pumped-up heavyweight, the Farrelly Brothers add self-images (such are in all their paintings) to watch what will happen. From here, all these gangsters, all this kidnapping, all this ransom, start to stand in stark contrast to this variation of Beavis and Butthead. At least look at the faces of the other actors – they clearly signed up for another movie. An example is when one of the gangsters, a tough dude named Joe Mentalino, with sincere surprise, says “How did they know I had gas?” Oh, yes, meeting people like them, you won't forget soon. It is time for two bosom friends to leave the cozy sofa and go in search of adventure on their head.
Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Crismas and Harry Dunn are the reason why Dumb and Dumber are still remembered. As good as the background is, play the main violin someone else - comedy was no longer what it is. So already tried to do in the prequel “How Harry met Lloyd”, but there the actors could not grasp the essence of the game predecessors. The comedic talent of Kerry and Daniels smooth out all vulgar corners with charisma and brings in moderate doses a shade of madness, held on a thin blade of stupidity. Moreover, if at an earlier age he liked Lloyd, despite the fact that he is actually a moral freak (selling a dead parrot to a blind boy, cheating on his gullible friend, offering to spend other people's money), now the soul gravitates more to Harry, a much kinder character capable of experiencing real romantic feelings, but who fell under the influence of his friend. Anyway, the two complement each other wonderfully, setting the tone for the appearance of guys like Harold, Kumar and many others.
The only thing that didn’t work was the final. To believe in the absolute stupidity of the heroes in this case is not possible. In this scene you can see the future of the directors themselves. They will investigate the relationship of the sexes long and hard until they come to where they started. Whether they managed to regain inspiration in this way, time will tell.
“Don't worry, we'll be lucky too. You just have to look both ways.
1994 in the genre of comedy was marked by the indisputable triumph of the young comedian Jim Carrey, who, thanks to his participation in such box office films as The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, forever immortalized his name in the Hollywood Hall of Fame. And if the first of these films took the viewer hostage due to the unthinkable at that time special effects and really extraordinary idea, the second first of all is a fully feature film, in which the visual component of the project and scale are not so important as the development of non-trivial characters of the duds, who often present themselves with unpleasant surprises. “Dumb and Dumber” is the debut in the direction of Peter and Bobby Farrelly, two brothers-comediographers who later became the leading figures of the genre, involved in such unshakable classics as “He, me and Irene” and “Everybody is crazy about Mary”. In addition to Kerry and Farrelly, Dumb and Dumber opens for us another star of Hollywood cinema, the performer of the second leading role, Jeff Daniels, who later thundered with the News Service and Pleasantville. The entire project cost producers only $ 17 million and the louder was its success, resulting in a grandiose 247 million! I remember that “Dumb and Dumber” was on everyone’s lips. The popularity of the film has exceeded all conceivable and unthinkable limitations. But personally, I consider the picture of the Farrelly brothers just cute, moderately naive, moderately funny movie, which does not give any extraordinary idea at all, but at the same time carries away without a trace, periodically forcing you to just burn away from some successful jokes that hit exactly the goal.
So, the plot of the film tells us an episode from the life of two stupid friends in the person of Lloyd Christmas (Kerry) and Harry Dunn (Daniels). The first of them gets a job as a driver of a posh limousine and literally on the very first day he is instructed to take cute rich Mary (Lauren Holly) to the airport. Lloyd instantly falls in love with the heroine, and when she accidentally notices that she left her case in the middle of the terminal, she rushes like a beast behind him, but only Mary has already managed to fly away. And not to any province, but to the elite mountain resort of Aspen. Without hesitation, Lloyd teases his friend Harry and they set off on a journey across the country to retrieve the notorious suitcase, and possibly kickstart a romantic relationship between Lloyd and Mary. It is a pity that our heroes do not have enough intelligence and they get involved in a real criminal showdown, in the center of which is the same abandoned case.
Dumb and Dumber is mostly based on images created by Jim Carrey and Jeff Denies. However, despite the fact that there are two full-fledged main characters in the picture, the first violin is still played by Kerry, who a year before the picture Farrelly has already managed to become a world star thanks to the success of the comedy Ace Ventura. The character of the actor, Lloyd Christmas, became in many ways a template for the entire subsequent career of Kerry, only if you remove the overwhelming pathological stupidity of actions. As always, he grimaces incredibly much, laughs inadequately and sometimes irresistibly gestures. At the same time, his character is quite cunning and at the right time shows considerable ingenuity, which is in stark contrast to his general image of a potential client of a psychiatric hospital. In addition, Lloyd boasts a delicate, vulnerable soul, which can be broken in two counts, and therefore the friendly ties connecting him with Harry are a fundamental element in the life of the character. As for Harry Dunn, he is largely the voice of reason in the film and sometimes it is he who pulls his friend out of this or that dangerous situation, which like mushrooms after the rain awaits the heroes on the way to Aspen. Outwardly, Harry looks much stronger and more dangerous than Lloyd, but in fact he turns out to be just a high-aged child who is also not averse to adjusting his personal life according to the examples of Lloyd, only like his friend, Harry at the most crucial moment lacks ordinary wit. Not to mention the complex schemes of conquering impregnable beauties. By the way, about ingenuity and luck: before the final credits in the picture there is, in my opinion, the best comedy scene that makes you forget about many of the shortcomings of the production. But it does not make sense to describe it, but it is worth seeing yourself!
The picture of the Farrelly brothers is a kind of road movie. Heroes travel around the country and get into a variety of comedic situations. However, to the surprise of many, I still can not call this film the pinnacle of comedy. For a few stretched timekeeping really hilarious jokes are not so much. But to the credit of the creators, they also do not break into a frank farce in all the moments and situations that accompany this, including the images of the main characters. At some point, you begin to realize that there is a lot of soulfulness in the characters of Harry and Lloyd. Farrelly emphasized that despite the clinical idiocy, the heroes of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are those rare people who put all their thoughts and actions on display, casting intrigue and omissions into the background. I don’t argue, they also try to deceive each other, but in the end they realize that friendship, along with family values, is the most fundamental thing in our lives. And jokes with the element of primitive under the leadership of Farrelly surprisingly organically emphasize this.
In the end, I want to say that "Dumb and Dumber" is not the most brilliant, but also far from passable comedy, which is rightfully very popular among viewers for more than 20 years. Of course, every second of viewing does not want to fall into hysterical laughter, but the feeling of interest and ease does not disappear anywhere. The project of Farrelly, Kerry and Daniels has already grown into a trilogy, but sometimes it is worth going back in time and revisiting where the story of Harry and Lloyd began. That is why it is a pleasure to see!
In 1994, under the direction of two brothers Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly released the film “Dumb and Dumber”, the main genre of which was comedy. This film tells us about two idiots (or rather, you can’t choose) Lloyd Crismas and Harry Dunn, for whom each new day is crazier than the previous one. And now they, once again losing their jobs, get involved, without realizing it themselves, in another stupid story that can already grow from an ordinary stupid situation into criminal intricacies of criminals who conceived a plan to ransom the husband of Mary Swanson, who fell in love with Lloyd, and then Harry.
The plot is quite simple and somewhat banal, which is probably better attributed to the pros than the cons. After all, this is just a comedy intended for fun, we are offered, like these two idiots, at least 107 minutes to turn off their brains, remove themselves from their problems, annoying daily, and just laugh at their ill-conceived actions, sometimes playing with a hint of black humor (a dead parrot for a blind boy), their stupid situations (exchange an electric bike for an unfueled car), and, of course, at them. It's the ever-smiling face and Lloyd's bangs cut to the root, these naive accusations of your friend's stupidity that only make you smile. Harry's disheveled and electrified hair, his funny thick protruding belly, all this evokes only positive emotions.
Bottom line.
This comedy from the very beginning shows the frivolity of its intentions, it does not call us to plunge into philosophical reflections, does not acquaint us with the bitter truth of life, and in no case imposes on us its "stupidity." It's just to get distracted, to laugh at everything that's going on, to finally make friends with these two friends of stupidity, who I think are distributed in equal numbers, and to experience with them this unrealistically stupid funny story that leaves only positive emotions.
In my opinion, the situation with this film is exactly the same as with Ace Ventura. This is a popular representative of the genre of “stupid American comedy” with Jim Carrey, where he is in his “incompetent” hypostasis. What do you call an amateur?
The lowest sort of humour, Kerry's unnecessary and meaningless crooks, zero idea. Whoever will visit the desire to “stupidly beat”, of course, you can watch this film. This is a total waste of time.
And most importantly, I don’t understand how some people can compare this film with the “Mask”? There and the hero is cute, and the curves are plot-based, and the idea is, and the mystery, and even mythological subtext, though accidentally, but hit the point. And here is another incompetent waste of Kerry's talent.
On the other hand, thanks to this thrash, he became popular ... well, "if only you knew what kind of crap" (c). In any case, no more than -
That's classic! You can watch this movie endlessly and find something new in it every time. Duo Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels gives a masterpiece comedy game.
The plot of the film is simple, but I like it. Two idiots fall in love with the same girl, follow her to another city and get into different funny and ridiculous situations. This film is full of clichés: toilet humor, and various faces and so on, but this is where all these jokes were demonstrated for the first time, so laughing is allowed.
The title of the film is very accurate: who is dumber than the two characters is unclear, because both of them in a row betray one ridiculous act after another. It's a lot of fun. Strictly watch! You won't regret it!
Well, Lauren Holly as a bonus and “that girl” never spoils the overall impression.
When I saw this comedy for the first time — and it happened shortly after it was released — I almost lost my mind from all the weirdness that was happening on the screen. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels laugh as Lloyd and Harry. It’s like they were born for this picture. And now I do not even want to discuss the fame of Mr. Krivlyaki and his images in other films.
Even then, immediately and irrevocably, they remember their car, fitted under the dog. And the "crusts" can be disassembled into components. You can't even list them. This is the case at the gas station (quite even a combined joke), and the situation with the policeman and bottles. Joke mass!
Okay, so let's say I'm just starting to eat teenage life. But today, having decided to pay tribute to the classics (modern paintings actually leave no choice, we have to learn something from the old) and revise "Dumb and even dumber" again. At the same time, forget about the problems of evil days. I even tanned a little bit - the effect did not work. But in the place where Harry used the toilet, I broke up. How creatively he came up with the idea of kicking out the stench! And also (especially): how he poured his stool from the toilet through the window. And at that point, I didn't even think that I was bringing out the toilet humor. (In fact, it is.) But this movie sends all the postulates to hell. Funny and fine.
This film is not a demagoguery. We need to see him. Someday the time will come and I will reconsider it again. What I recommend to you...

You sold Pitty to a blind boy? I mean, he was headless.
- I took care of it.
Verdict: Harry and Lloyd are two friends who are not particularly brilliant. One day they decide to go to Aspen to find the girl who accidentally left him at the airport and Lloyd found him.
This Farrely Brothers comedy can't, don't like it. It is based on the play of two actors. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have created an amazing duo of idiots. Both heroes are ridiculous and stupid to the point of ugliness. All the jokes in the film are about things below the belt. But the thing is, it's funny. I’ve seen this movie many times and I don’t think I’ll like it. There are jokes about bottles of urine, about spending money, about murder and even about headless parrots. There are no new ideas in the film. “Always stick with your friends and try to support them.” The soundtrack in the film is also good, but the most memorable song is "I Love the Flower Girl."
Verdict: one hundred percent comedy, which will not make you miss watching, but will only surprise, even if you watch it.

To truly be able to make people laugh, there must be a talent, a gift from above. Few actors have it. But Jim Carrey is a comedy genius. You can't help smiling just by looking at him. We just can't take him in serious, non-comedic roles.
I think in this film he revealed himself 100%. All jokes in his style, eccentric and daring. It may seem silly, but only at first glance. Everything is thought out and played professionally. This is a masterpiece film and you can really watch it many times, if you have a sense of humor.
I hope that the 2nd part will be removed and it will be no less successful!

As a teenager, I laughed at this comedy. I still feel positive about laughter as a way to relieve nervous tension. But now I understand that this should not be done at the expense of morality.
What is the b/b of this movie? When we hear the title “Dumb, Dumber” we think, “Now we’re going to laugh at these fools.” But there is one thing to understand: if a stupid person is the main character of the film, then we no longer just laugh at him, we look at the world through his eyes, we become him. Do we want to be like the main characters of the film?
What moments do I remember from this film? The scene where these guys stick a dead parrot to a blind child. Are you sure this is really worth laughing at? Look at this not through the eyes of a degenerate, but more realistically. This is your baby.
Toilet scene. How would American cinema go without this? Freud believed that the anal period ends at three years. But, judging by such films, for some people it lasts a lifetime.
The scene when one of the characters froze his tongue. Well, it's an innocent scene. Only if the main character was a child. A healthy child licking handrails ...
I like Carrie, he's a good actor. It's a pity that he spent his whole life on movies like this.
So people, think again about what you're watching and what you're showing your kids. How do you shape their worldview?
