"Twenty" Minutes of Love" is one of my favorite short films featuring Charlie Chaplin, the period of his collaboration with the film studio "Keystone".
After working for several months at Keystone, Charlie could not accept the role of an actor who plays what they give. Gradually, he expanded his powers, helping writers and directors. In the end, the tricks in such buffoonery Chaplin developed personally.
The plot of the comedy “Twenty Minutes of Love”, as in many films “Keystone”, as such, is absent. This is a typical sitcom, where a huge place is given to various gags, tricks and jokes, rather than a script. But even among such films, Chaplin managed to create an excellent comedy, which can be called a masterpiece.
A kissing couple on a bench, a sleeping gentleman, a policeman walking, another beloved couple (where the girl intends to see evidence of love from her boyfriend) - all these different, at first glance, people are united not only by the location - the park, but also the main character - Tramp (Charles Chaplin), who, molesting the girls, will get into trouble. In addition, the story of the clock, which is constantly walking from owner to owner, added even more funny moments and space for improvisation.
Chaplin once said that in order to make a good comedy, he needed only a park, a policeman and a beautiful girl. In fact, "Twenty Minutes of Love" just clearly demonstrate the validity of this simple theory.
“Twenty Minutes of Love” is a short film that cannot be ignored if the viewer wants to get acquainted with the works of Chaplin’s early period. Although, by the way, shot a year later, remake "In the Park", was also a very good comedy (with the only difference that "In the Park" Chaplin shot already independently).
