The hamlet of Szcigraw County - call me the Hamlet of Shchigrov County. There are many such Hamlets in every county, but perhaps you have not encountered others. . .
Classics should be interesting and relevant. And what if the work can not interest contemporaries? Perhaps such a film can push off the basis, create a false impression of uselessness, futility. Based on these assumptions, I would not make this film at all.
The story of a eccentric young master turns out to be too detached from the literary source. It is difficult to find a direct connection with one of the most ornate stories of Turgenev’s “Notes of the Hunter”. The authors added several lines, and a coherent fascinating story never turned out.
Without a doubt, the play of Oleg Ivanovich Borisov is brilliant. His monologue in the cap lasts a long time. I never sleep. I fall asleep myself, and I do not know why; I lie down, lie down, and fall asleep.
It was also a successful scene of awkward matchmaking. It “arises” suddenly, and the subsequent development of events is discouraging. It is as funny as it is tragic.
However, the winning moments here live their lives. And the tape like a patchwork blanket only offers them shelter.
The disadvantage of the film, I think, is the cameramanship. An overabundance of close-ups hides a lack of attention to detail and nature, sometimes turning the film into a TV show. There is no Turgenev spirit, no intrigue, no speculation.
This film can hardly be recommended for viewing. But ... it is impossible to cross out a worthy game of Oleg Borisov
