Very, very funny movie. Thanks to the high sleep year, St. Oswald, February 29, which happens once every 4 years, and stupid family traditions, you can fly three thousand kilometers, get into the bind more than once, drown a car in a river, but cope with a herd of cows. See the beautiful Irish castles and meet true love. We're all looking for her.
There are among the relatively new romantic films How to Marry in Three Days (2010).
The brave main character decides to propose to her boyfriend and goes to him in Dublin. There is an ancient Irish tradition according to which one day in a leap year a man has no right to refuse a wedding if a woman proposes to him. However, the weather decides otherwise, planes do not fly, and the heroine has only three days to achieve her goal. She is forced to get to the groom by roundabout ways, and a grumpy Irish handsome man volunteered to help her, who desperately needs money to pay off the loan for renting his own bar.
I can imagine how many people are living in Russia. And how many women thought, “Foolishness to the man!”
Nevertheless! The film is worth watching not because of the obviousness of the genre, but solely for the sake of more valuable things!
Sunny Ireland, rainy Ireland...Have you been to Ireland? I'm not, and now I feel like I was. It's the same in isolation!
Emerald fields, ancient castles, gingerbread houses, cafes. . .
What kind of people are there? Ironic old gentlemen, conservative old ladies, hospitable and welcoming. What is the situation at home? I feel like I went back to my grandmother's childhood. I wanted to embrace every detail of the interior decorations, dance with every curtain and sleep on clearly obsolete beds, but what comfort they smelled, how warm!
In the film there is Amy Adams, I appreciate her after the film “Under the cover of night” (2016), as well as “Matthew Goode” (he is great in any film). Their ensemble at first glance is doubtful, but the sweet thing is that they do not immediately add up to a puzzle. Some clumsy, a little naive, as well as the plot, but nevertheless, they together with the live Ireland make this story. And, of course, the secret ingredient is the pursuit of dreams.
We love watching people try to achieve their goals at all costs, even if they are not close to us. But the miracle of the film is that the characters become close and family from the very beginning, so I looked to the end, not breathing.

Nice romantic comedies are designed to smooth out sharp corners after all sorts of acutely social paintings and other arthouses. On gray evenings, a few positive pictures of the power of love improve your mood. Next, we will share our impressions about the picture and thoughts on this.
A narrative criterion. In English-speaking countries, there is a tradition - on February 29, a woman can propose to a man, and he has no right to refuse. And so the stiff lady goes to Dublin to try to propose to her boyfriend on this day. But the weather changes her plans, and to carry out her plans, she has to resort to the help of a grumpy Irishman - the owner of the hotel. Together with him, the heroine is forced to travel across the country to have time to propose. Usually the scheme is as follows: on the way the main character meets a simple fellow traveler from the people and on the difference of characters psychology of relationships is created. There are funny scenes that make you smile, there are awkward moments, it’s scenes that I think create the atmosphere and narrative thread of cinema. Four out of five.
Visual criteria. There are no complaints to the picture, the organization of the frame is good, the transition between the plans is smooth. Particularly successful were the general plans with the landscapes of Ireland, especially the stick on the castle near the station, about which Declan tells a romantic legend. But all the scenery here is as if only for the sake of the background, although the story is built so that connoisseurs of romantics will note that all the details work in the frame for action. Which is good, four out of five.
Acting. Amy Adams here is a miracle as good, the image of a prim aristocrat, a connoisseur of high poetry and graceful manners came to her face, it is just pleasant to look at her. Matthew Goode frowns hard, shows masculinity in a fight with Irish Gopniks, opens his soul in the park to the murmur of the river, but every scene, every action is predictable. Jeremy was somewhat sluggishly played by Adam Scott, there wasn't much of him to make a full-fledged opinion of his game. By this criterion, I will evaluate the hard four.
Music and sound on the technical part work harmoniously, sound engineers correctly distributed the sound on timekeeping, all melodies sound according to mood and in a timely manner. Not the most outstanding work, but the closing credits sound great. Five stars.
Verdictating. A simple but sincere film about a romantic relationship. Nothing supernatural, but no rejection. Good to you all!
Watching romantic comedies is always a lottery: either it catches on immediately, or I turn it off at half an hour. The comedy “Leap Year” (or “How to Marry in 3 Days”) immediately caught my attention in the trailer with pleasant actors and magnificent landscapes of Ireland.
Perhaps at first glance, the plot of the film could seem banal: an ordinary Irish guy and a cool, educated city girl. Like The French Kiss and other romantic comedies. But the meaning of this picture is much deeper.
Living in a huge city, having a prestigious job, money, a prestigious gentleman (" He is a heart surgeon! - often boasts the heroine), we may not notice that such a life can be plastic. Women pursue the goal of getting married, as well as the heroine of the film, however, do not think about why the prestigious cavalier in 4 years and did not propose to her? And does he love Anna or does he just not see a profitable and promising reason?
Anna, pursuing her goal and passing through the circles of “hell”, as it seems to her at first, in Ireland gradually gets rid of the city’s gaze – this always happens when you spend time in nature, and, especially, among the beautiful mountains, lakes, castles and kind people who live naturally and simply. There is a sharper line between really important and necessary things in life and fashionable garbage.
Therefore, I can not call the plot of the film banal. It became one of my favorite comedies to watch again.
The acting is quite pleasant. They correspond to the images contained in the characters. Emmy Adams is a business woman, but romantic at heart, feminine, charming. Matthew Goode is ironic, denying many of the trivia of modern urban life, kind, courageous.
It should also be noted that the Russian translation greatly spoils the film. Many jokes, intonations are ruthlessly eaten, and the impression of viewing remains incomplete. Therefore, I sincerely advise those who have the opportunity to look in the original language - so you will get much more pleasure from viewing, as well as a fuller impression of what is happening.
Nice jokes, adventures, beautiful surroundings, contrasts - this is what this film is rich in.
Probably, this film is difficult to understand by many, especially those who have not experienced anything like this, namely, the desire to leave the big city further, where everything is real, especially the thoughts of others. But after visiting these places, I can definitely say that this is what is happening in reality, and you really start reaching out to these people - ordinary Irish / Scottish people who are open to you.

I do not want to describe the story from my bell tower, because there is a description for this. I'll go straight to thoughts.
Plot. Maybe inside me is a person who has watched a lot of movies, but to me the plot seemed painfully ordinary. Predictable, actually. The moments when you start to worry about what is happening, but immediately you understand what will happen a few scenes ahead. It’s as if the writers just took and stuffed the whole movie with “unexpected twists.” Such as “Oh, look, let’s drain the car”, “Oh, let’s just throw it up here!”, “Oh, let’s not answer her at the end” and so on. Maybe it was just me. But in that case, I'm just a sophisticated viewer.
Idea. She's not bad. In principle, each film (if it is not a remake, for example) carries some key idea, because of which the film began to shoot. So here she is, too, although Anna's trip did not make sense.
If we talk about the actor’s role, then I do not know what to evaluate here either. Nothing super-dramatic, just good charisma inherent in every actor just to become.
I want to celebrate the beauty of Ireland. Magnificent country, geography, views. And I was glad that the heroes almost walked to Dublin, so that the viewer just admired the beautiful scenery.
Leap year is an example of a typical romantic comedy, in which they try too hard to hide the lack of plot and script. No one doubts the beauty of Ireland or Amy Adams' stunning performance. I'll just give him 5/10. I don’t know why, but I don’t want to put it on the red list because there are rom-com movies that are much worse. And this is a standard romantic comedy, predictable, boring, but watchable once at home.

Total bad luck, or how to get married for three days
The film is very interesting and romantic, and indeed more for the female half. The filming took place against the backdrop of picturesque, beautiful places, and the dialogues of the characters are bright, with humor. The film looks in one breath and leaves the desire to revise it later. Which I'll note from my side. The main character naively believed in some dubious tradition that in a leap year on February 29, the girl can offer marriage to her boyfriend - went after her lover (Jeremy cardiologist) to Dublin to propose to him. Very brave, but in my opinion intrusive. But I understand that this is just a moment of despair, because in 4 years of a relationship, she never heard “Marry me.” You know, the cardiologist turned out to be heartless, even giving earrings that are in his ears, he even sits staring at the gadget, looking at pictures from the operation. Therefore, the main character intuitively feels that their relationship with Jeremy has long been at the level of living as neighbors. But optimism and self-belief prevent her from saying it out loud and admitting it to herself. And, having taken on Louis Vuitton (Louis' suitcase), Anna rushes to Dublin to propose to her lover - cardiologist Jeremy. Anna now and then, then the weather, then something else is stopped, as if they tell her “Don’t do this, stop!” Planes don't fly, ferries don't go, private boats don't get to their destination, the phone doesn't charge, the car is sunk, a cow cake has come in, "Louis got 'stolen, the train is late, the bride's forehead is smashed ... count the whole movie - it's just an obstacle for Anna so she can't reach her stupid goal. Anna is totally unlucky on this journey, it's not a woman, it's just a disaster!!! But persistent Anna, once she has drawn a circle above her head, seeks to finish the job to the end. He does not want to look at himself from the outside and doubt the correctness of his actions. And only “beautiful as Apollo”, “silent knight with a fiery heart” named Declan brightens up Anna’s crazy adventure. Enjoy watching, the film turned out very good and soulful.
The film was released 7 years ago, but I just happened to be able to watch it now. I don’t know why the creators decided to change the name. The essence of this is that the girl rushed to her boyfriend to propose to him on February 29, as her grandmother did a long time ago. After all, according to an ancient legend, on this day a man has no right to say 'no'. If not for this circumstance, the main character would have remained waiting for her cardiologist in Boston. As for me, it is ' High Axis Year' better.
I don’t really like the idea of the film. In my understanding, a man should propose a hand and a heart, and when a woman does, it looks a little... strange. I don’t know what made me want to make this movie, but I don’t regret it. It was a pretty cute comedy, but there were a couple of stupid moments. For example, who are these disgusting kissing couples at the table? I understand that you had to figure out how to bring the main characters together, but you could do it in some other way. And I still wonder how she came ashore from that trough? How did it get out to sea in such a storm? Well, that's if you find fault. For a lonely sad evening, the film will go. But you know what? Why are there such double standards? Why do we regret and justify Declan's detached behavior because he was abandoned long ago by a girl? And we secretly hope that Anna will leave her fiancé, even though they were together for 4 years and loved each other? Happy end? For whom?
With men, I think she was unlucky. The first one thinks only about himself and how he will look from the outside. Marriage with Anna is only a profitable party for him, as she will be the perfect wife. And the second is an even more peculiar type. Yes, it is generally believed that women fall for such, but his behavior at the beginning of their acquaintance is simply murderous. Ham, who wouldn't lift a finger to help her. And how will she, accustomed to luxury and hairpins, live with him in the countryside? But Matthew Goode is handsome here, that's a fact.
What I really liked was Ireland and its crazy beauty scenery.

The main character of the film, Anna, has been dating her boyfriend for four years, but he is not in a hurry to propose. But the time seems to have already come: they found a good apartment, and they seem to suit each other. The heroine’s father once again tells her an old family legend about how her grandmother proposed to her grandfather according to the tradition of a leap year, existing in Ireland. Then the woman decides to take matters into her own hands and goes to Dublin to propose to a young man. Of course, everything is not going according to plan.
A light, funny, light and funny comedy about how certain coincidences and coincidences help to find a true life partner. Your man, your shoulder, on which you can always lean, a man (or woman), next to whom the world will be brighter. There is a stereotype that first people should meet, live together for some time, and then, having thought deeply, make a decision about marriage. But movies like this tell us that this is nonsense. Everyone has their own path and their own love story.
Anna spent four years with a man who seemed to be the perfect husband candidate. People have been dating and living together for years: five years, seven years, ten years, but they never dare to get married for various reasons. Someone leaves everything as it is, someone eventually gets married, and someone sooner or later still runs away. Others get married a few months or a year after dating. They live happily ever after, or they get divorced quickly. And I know several couples who filed an application to the registry office a week (!) after meeting, now live together, have had children and are quite satisfied with each other. Everyone has their own story.
Declan was burned in love once. He is prickly, sarcastic and cynical and tries not to let anyone near him, so that his wounds do not reopen. Matthew Goode is extremely good in this role. His Declan - a guy from the outback with a gloomy character - believe from and to.
Anna is active, resourceful, independent and very feminine. I never cease to be surprised by the talent of the excellent Amy Adams, familiar to me from the films Miss Pettigrew and American Hustle. In fact, in these films, she plays a woman with whom it is impossible not to fall in love. She has an indescribable charm. But the images everywhere are different and integral. In general, watching this duet is a pleasure. Moreover, humor here is not intrusive and not rude, although not without some cliches, but there is a sweet self-irony of the Irish in relation to their country and culture.
Heroes make a journey from some village (go seedy town) to Dublin and, of course, constantly get into ridiculous, awkward, funny situations designed to bring them closer. All this is accompanied by excellent music and magnificent landscapes of the country, which will certainly want to see live.
Here is another story about two people who, at first glance, seem completely unsuitable for each other. But fate has an opinion.
Of course, you can’t expect anything exciting from the title “How to Marry in 3 Days”. An experienced viewer will easily be able to calculate what type of plot has such a name and will not be much mistaken. You should not expect serious psychological or social conflicts in the film.
Still, the film fascinates. It does not “stun”, “capture” or make you think, but “charms”. Attractive because it is filmed with kind irony and love for the scene (Ireland) and the people living there. It has everything – good-natured and unhurried villagers, superstitions, dialects and national music, adherence to traditional morality, romantic traditions, the ruins of an ancient castle and even an ancient romantic legend. Against this background, it is somehow not interesting to pay attention to clichés and stamps, without which, of course, it was not possible.
Unfortunately, Leap Year is one of those films that lose a lot in translation, as it is almost impossible to translate humor based on differences in lifestyle, pronunciation and use of words. If possible, the film is nice to see in the original, as all the actors try to reproduce the dialect and it sounds really funny.
Matthew Goode, in my opinion, quite coped with the role of “a simple Irish guy”, although it is probably not so easy for a native of Wells to portray an Irishman. Amy Adams, as always, is unusually cute in the role of a slightly stiff lady from Boston, who has quite ordinary ideas for this type of people about happiness, well-being and good upbringing. Just a classic urban character, like many of us.
It is quite possible to recommend a film to watch on a winter evening if you are looking for something light and not obliging to think.

Unusual traditions attract those who cannot do anything under ordinary circumstances. What do you do if you want to propose while being a girl? Take advantage and fly to Ireland on February 29. It doesn’t really matter if the Irish themselves don’t know about this tradition, when a girl proposes to her lover and it is considered a normal tone. Thus, the intelligent, purposeful heroine Amy Adams packs up and travels to Dublin as quickly as possible, on the way facing unflying weather, storm and unfriendly Irish audience, among which, naturally, finds a soulmate. The film would be unimaginable if, of course, not for the local flavor, the beautiful nature and Amy Adams with Matthew Goode in the background of all this beauty. For a good movie with a capital letter, this is not enough, but for an evening pastime it is quite enough. There is no need to worry about the target audience.
How to Marry in Three Days was released in the same year as Anne Fletcher's The Proposal. Both films are on the same theme and could compete at the box office if they were released at the same time. “How to Get Married...” appeared in theaters six months earlier, but despite this failed to achieve box office success, a sufficient number of favorable reviews, as it turned out to do with “The Proposal”. The problem with the film is simple: it’s not as polished as Fletcher’s creation. There is no gloss or unnaturalness here. Despite the primitiveness, in “How to get married...” there is a light, you feel life. In addition, Anand Tucker did not venture to the limit of vulgarity that cannot be crossed. Humor, characteristic of the outback, does not make you embarrassed or wonder about the feasibility of viewing. Cinema retains an intelligent appearance and this differs from its neighbors in the genre.
“How to Marry in Three Days” is not the best adaptation of the title in Russian, but it is not the worst love story about the wedding and the road. The story is banal and old, but has its own exceptional spirit. It feels fresh, so that the pictures of nature come to life, and the characters in the background seem natural.
The genre of romantic comedy in the plot does not please with its diversity, but thanks to its ease and charm, it always finds its viewer, so the premieres of such films are held with enviable regularity. Not always, of course, they pay off at the box office (with this condition, the release of films on DVD media often comes to the rescue). Short, rarely exceeding two-hour timekeeping, stories about unexpected love with fading hearts find a response from the audience, even if critics consider such tapes to be empty in advance, talk about something bright and good, with fabulous persistence bringing out that everyone will find their soul mate, and this can happen at the most unexpected moment, when you do not expect it at all, and the first counter will inadvertently be your fate.
“How to Marry in 3 Days” is from the category of such, a full plot template, an easily foreseeable development of the story and how it will end, but you still look, because it is curious when the characters understand that they are created for each other. “How to get married in 3 days” is also a “road-movie”, because the main characters, by coincidence, have to go on a joint trip, of course, during this time they will argue several times, make sure that they can not tolerate each other, but then their relationship will become closer, suddenly everyone will have positive and attractive sides, and now their hole already beats the sparks of mutual sympathy, and then even more. “How to Get Married in 3 Days” is a popular film. The lion’s share of the action of the picture takes place in Ireland and the creators gave themselves the will to ridicule the mentality of the island inhabitants of the hinterland with their constant signs. Do not dig a well on Sunday or drink wine on Wednesdays if it is an odd day of the month. In general, they laughed and laughed without malicious intent, I hope that no one offended the Irish and elves.
The film can be viewed in the context of the previous two paragraphs. It is only necessary to remind that the main character, played by Amy Adams, has a boyfriend of heart and now she rushes to Ireland to propose to him, since only on leap years it is February 29, the guy has no right to refuse the girl in the hand and heart. If she knew that there awaits her fate in the person of sly Matthew Goode, but the one who did not fulfill her dreams of an offer - Adam Scott - will be no longer necessary. Collaborative writers who have worked together more than once, Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, wrote the story of their characters’ unexpected love quite pronounced, so Amy Adams and Matthew Goode managed good, directed images. Although not exquisite and to the couples created by Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, they are very far away, but nevertheless, the temperament is, the intrigue in the love development is also available, the initial conflict is obvious, so the couple is still the same, if only the director of the film Anand Tucker added maybe not funny, but at least funny moments and curiosity, it would be even better.
So, as they said, Amy Adams and Matthew Goode did a good job of playing the roles because the writers were pretty good at it. It would be another matter if the actors failed such an easy material, then their careers could be suspended, or if they did not cope with a simple task, then where to give more capacious roles? No, everything is on a good level as for the genre of romcom, Amy Adams will appeal to the male audience, and the ladies (the target audience of the picture) may like Matthew Goode. And in general, Amy Adams can still please the audience with deeper roles - the potential is there, the main thing is to reveal and develop it. But Adam Scott played a stereotypical careerist who understands who loses only when he has already lost, trying to be himself, he proves that he loves and is ready to do anything, but, alas, the engine left and the couple did not leave. And you can not pass by two funny old men who have always argued about Irish traditions and signs, quite funny characters, contributing to the whole aura of the painting “How to get married in 3 days”.
Such tapes always have their viewer and she found him. The picture recaptured itself at the box office in the United States, and in Europe added several million dollars to itself, which indicates a successful work. A cute, entertaining film for couples in love, if they do not believe in various signs.
And as for me, the film is wonderful, romantic, sweet, kind, bright, with elements of comedy and some absolutely wonderful feeling of comfort.
It is true that the film does not have any zest that would distinguish it from all the other numerous romantic melodramas, there is little originality in it to become a masterpiece of all similar paintings, but this does not prevent the film from causing beautiful feelings and becoming loved by many.
I really liked the main characters, Amy Adams is such an incredible beauty and did a great job with her role. Matthew Goode also played a great role!
The plot is quite dynamic and does not stand still, a lot of funny situations, jokes, wonderful views.
Excellent shooting, very beautiful camera work, thanks to this the film turned out very bright and warm. It is also a great musical accompaniment.
To sum it up: How to Get Married in 3 Days is a very cute romantic melodrama that fans of the genre will surely enjoy. I was pleased to get acquainted with this picture, it remembered me, pleased and brought a good mood, so I see no reason to underestimate the rating:

Colorful landscapes, endless fjords, green fields, and rocky mountains - the heroes of the film will show how to spend an exciting weekend and find a common language with people of different views.
Primary Anna, after four years of living together with Jeremy, begins to live with the motto "I can't wait to get married", her nerves get a gift in the form of earrings instead of a long-awaited ring, before the guy leaves. And she decides to come to him and propose herself! But due to heavy rain, Dublin airport is closed and passengers are dropped off in the dark, promising that tomorrow the flight will resume work. But not here it happened, the girl is so excited by events that she is ready to eat the earth with her teeth, just to get to her destination, but her zeal does not bring her to the good.
Initially, the faces of the actors are horrified: what kind of girl with a strange appearance, and how perfect for her boyfriend, a friend with bulging eyes. At the same time, everyone is so overplayed that it begins to become not on its own (!), the fire is thrown by stiff sellers of apartments who conduct interviews, in such a city try not to go crazy. But do not be horrified, as soon as the heroine’s wanderings begin, her face will become simpler, and the landscapes and people of Ireland will completely melt her heart, so we can conclude that this is the director’s move. The charming hero of Matthew Goode - Declan will dispose the viewer to the picture with his jokes, statements and actions.
The wife left the guy or did not leave, if she gave him a child, then you should not ask her to return the gifts after years, it is at least not manly.
When a room collapses before your eyes, you fly from a huge slippery mountain or in expensive shoes you step into the excrement of an animal - at such moments you want to cry. And it seems that the viewer should worry more than the heroes themselves.
Interview with realtors who sell an apartment only to married couples is not for the Russian mentality.
Impressions are positive, the characters not only make you worry and cheer up, but this is a great chance to admire the views of the wild nature of Ireland, the eyes of unsophisticated travelers.

This romantic story can be called advertising the state of Ireland. Most of the events take place there, thereby taking the viewer away from the bustle of the big bustling city. The desire of the main character, at all costs to get to Dublin in a certain time, prompts the move, which has become a real road adventure. No dangers and car chases, but incredibly picturesque, full of positive emotions.
The relations of the main characters can not be expected to be counted as mutually friendly from the first meeting. Anna and Declan have a distinctive vision of their own lives and the world around them. On one side of the future romantic relationship is a young careerist from the United States, and on the other is a hard-working Irish chef, abrupt on the tongue and a little unceremonious. It is incredibly interesting to watch as the arrogance of the main character is broken against the rocks of the Irish wayward mentality. Although Amy does not belong to the stars of the first Hollywood magnitude, the image created by her, together with the performer of the main male part, can interest. This is extremely atypical for romantic comedies couple, but with its own history and, importantly, surprises.
As I noted above, the journey of the heroes, according to the feelings, is transformed into your personal, to the most beautiful and memorable places of Ireland. In our time of rapid development of technology and megacities, you catch yourself thinking that such secluded landscapes are the very thing that can relax. These are historical monuments, and cows, dimensionally crossing the freeway, and cozy living rooms near a local elderly couple, and a traditional, almost stereotypical, Irish pub, and a secluded railway station in the province. After watching the film, I want to earn the opportunity to go to these attractive places.
The picture, according to its content and emotions, cannot be uniquely defined for comedy or drama. The components of the two genres are closely intertwined. There are many moments that will make you smile and a few – to laugh at the stupidity of the situation or the behavior of the characters. But the film, in a good way, has moved forward from the humour below the belt that abounds in the comedy genre today. Dramatic notes in a minimal amount replace irony, overshadowing emotions. The project, we can say, has a book atmosphere and I personally would not miss the opportunity to get acquainted with the literary original, if such.

If on a warm evening you decide to watch a light romantic comedy, then you have found exactly what you need.
The goal of every girl in life is to get married. Well, or at least just get married, and the heroine of this film is no exception. Anna is ready to undergo any tests just to get to her lover in distant Ireland, to February 29 in a leap year to propose to him. And to get to Dublin she has an unbearable Irishman.
So, the pros of the picture: a good acting, Irish music and, of course, your favorite Hollywood & #39; Happy & #39;.
Cons: banal plot, not very funny jokes, although some I remember very well (eagle - I won, tails - you lost, your life is governed by the law of meanness?!), but, in general, the film liked. And especially the image of the protagonist, a kind of rude macho-muchacho who is actually able to love, as they say, passionately and deeply. And pleases the development of events in the picture, based on the law of life - from love to hate one step.
Cinema for all lovers of sentimentality, beautiful love stories, hot Irish!
“How to Get Married in 3 Days” is a comedy about a wedding. Before watching, I was hoping for a banal plot, silly jokes and predictability. Only one of my points was justified. In everything else - this is a great romantic comedy for the evening, which will lift the mood and will not leave anyone indifferent.
I realized that I had everything I wanted, but nothing I really needed!
The plot is original, but a little predictable. I think every viewer has seen tons of films about weddings and can easily predict the plot a step or two ahead. It's almost the same here, but it's how it's filed. After all, you can make a good comedy one solid vulgarity that will eclipse an interesting plot. Here, the predictability smoothed due to jokes and funny moments that came from the eccentric main character Anna and her guide Declan. Indeed, their quarrels were pleasant and funny to watch. They're two different opposites.
... they kill each other (c)
I liked the cast. Amy Adams (Anna) did a great job with the role, it was nice to watch. Her acting is very good and she impresses me as an actress. Matthew Goode (Declan) is an Irish caring guide to Anna. He perfectly entered the image of his hero, who is trying to kick Anna.
You won't get a dime! Just over my dead body!
- And this is a thought...(c)
Special thanks for the music and scenery, especially the castle. It was very pleasant to see the small villages and bright greenery. And the Irish motifs are wonderful!
We end up with a great romantic comedy. And most importantly, there are no flat American jokes (this is a special criterion for me). This is a film about feelings, how to understand what you need, and of course about love. Somewhat predictable, but a pleasant aftertaste is provided to you.
My assessment:
This is a truly English comedy with its inherent subtle humor and unsophisticated sincerity, conquering from the first seconds of viewing.
Despite the predictability of the plot, watching this film was one pleasure for me: an easy story about the sudden finding of true love is what you need for a Sunday evening.
I would like to point out one thing that I really liked: the mild irony in almost every conversation. These are not vulgar “jokes”, but wonderful, well-thought-out lines. A rare feature of American comedies is humor with meaning.
The unexpected on-screen union of Matthew Goode and Amy Adams captivated me. Two not the most famous, but insanely talented actors could not fail to impress!
Aland Tucker delighted me with a picture with a simple plot against the background of a deep penetration into the souls of the heroes. Anna is a desperate girl who takes the extreme step of trusting an old tradition and proposing to her boyfriend on February 29. Declan is a disillusioned romantic who has become an impregnable cynic over time. They have an exciting journey, during which both will reconsider their prejudices about each other and understand what is really important.
Thank you for a wonderful film that deserves
The film is not as easy and romantic as it seems at first glance. After watching it, I came to the conclusion that the director wanted to play on the feelings of the audience and made half comedy and half drama. This film is filled with the emotions of the characters. When I got to the middle, I became really worried about Declan and Anna. I wondered what would happen in the end, although I did not doubt my guess.
If you talk a little about the characters, Anna (Amy Adams) is a kind of business Lady who is waiting for an offer from her boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott), and you can say just obsessed with engagement. Declan (Matthew Goode) is an ordinary guy from a small town in Ireland, a calm, short-spoken prick, badly beaten by life.
It is a gift of fate that they met each other, even if they did not fall in love at first sight. He keeps her up, and she, in turn, endures everything, but does not lag behind him. What's not a great couple? Moreover, the very situations in which Anna gets on the way to Dublin, contribute to the development of their feelings for each other.
I also want to say that the film is not made for a certain audience, it tells the story of two beautiful people who need true love in their own way, and films with such a plot should be watched by everyone.
Don't hesitate for a minute, sit down and watch, have a good view!
In my life there was an event due to which in my cinema from time to time penetrate these romantic comedies. Yes, I have a beloved wife.
I will not hide, to view this film, the original title of which “Leap year” fits him fully, was very skeptical. But frame by frame I began to empathize with the main characters, laugh at cynical jokes and admire the unique landscapes of Ireland.
And so, closer to the topic: Anna, having met her boyfriend Jeremy for four years, dreams that the young man is about to make her proposals, because both the time frame of the relationship and the joint decision to buy an apartment push the guy to make a decisive step. But in the end, this very unwise young man, instead of the cherished ring, gives only earrings, and besides everything else, goes to a medical conference in Ireland itself, leaving Anna alone with her desires.
But then the girl smiles chance, she learns about the magnificent tradition, according to which every woman can make a man proposals on February 29, and he has no right to refuse her. Shortly thinking, Anna goes to Dublin for her “betrothed”, in order to fulfill the male part of the work.
But the same case turns out to be very changeable, and the girl finds herself far from her goal, in a country that respects all superstitions and traditions, which, incidentally, do not contribute to the connection of loving hearts. The heroine is firm in her convictions, armed with the support of the local guy Declan for a modest fee of only 500 euros, goes to meet love. Immediately I want to note the wonderful acting tandem Amy Adams and Matthew Goode, who brilliantly conveyed the entire palette of feelings of the main characters.
Here, for me, as a skeptical viewer, there was a turning point, because the relations of young people are tied not at first sight, but quite the contrary - from fierce hatred and opposition to romantic feelings. This kind of relationship, in my opinion, looks much more impressive.
I could not watch without a smile as cynical rude Declan joked and taunted over a naive pampered girl. What is the "suitcase Louis" and brazenly grinning face of the main character. What is not a phrase is a bane:
In such a confrontation, Anna and Declan, passing through various trials, where the most romantic moment ends very unexpectedly, open the lines that they so desire to see in their chosen ones, another moment - and real feelings flare up between young people. Now the girl has to make a difficult choice.
Here I want to mention the concept of fate, which the author allegedly tries to display. No way! In my opinion, the matter here is much more subtle, because obstacles on the way will arise with whomever we are the difference only in who is worth overcoming them and in the ability to find love spiritual and true. I can't forget the main characters:
Not the best way to describe a loved one. In the end, the theme of this film is how important it is to watch and see with whom you meet the dawn and whether your feelings are mutual. A beautiful film that made me laugh, especially at the superstitions of Irish grandfathers, will enjoy beautiful landscapes, magnificent Irish melodies and, of course, a love story, as well as a little reflection.

Leap year is another, but not another romcom. This is a film in which the plot is read back and forth, the finale is clear in advance, the characters are partly even caricatured, but what a damn attractive film it is.
I understand that the original title has been used many times in the cinema, I understand that in the same 2010 the film with the same name was released, but what Russian distributors have created is another blow to the gut. With their translation of How to Marry in 3 Days, they lowered the original bar by several levels and declared the film as something completely flat and template – another comedy for young people. Thank God, I overcame the initial reluctance to watch the movie, watched the trailer, and then the film itself.
There is a fine line between elegance and vulgarity.
There are three main characters on the screen: Anna (Amy Adams), Decklen (Matthew Goode) and Mother Ireland! I have a lot of sympathy for Amy and Matthew, but Ireland made them both, outplayed them. This slightly restrained detached and cold, but so soulful and mysterious Ireland, with its authentic and luxurious nature, with its bullying and slightly rude Irish, grumpy and cute old people, with its emerald cheerful greenery and icy showers. Just for the sake of all this beauty it was worth making this movie.
I saw Matthew Goode in several films in the role of a character playing along with the soloists, and here he is in a more complete volume. A real Brit played a real Brit! Amy Adams is good here, too. Probably not perfect, but very organic.
Can you be careful? This is a gift from my boyfriend.
- Did he buy you a suitcase?
- This is Witton.
- What?
- Louis Vuitton.
- Come on. Hey, Louie! I'll help you get in the car, Louis. A suitcase with a name? It's crazy...
This is one of those films that can fall in love with the country. I want to visit Ireland with its signs and beliefs, with its castles, rivers, hills and forests.
About the movie itself? What about him? A very banal set-up - antipodes by nature have to go through all sorts of difficulties, which ultimately connects them for eternity. The end. Everyone's happy. More importantly, this film was shot with great taste and with great love and tenderness for Ireland, because sometimes the operator released the main characters from the frame, as if forgetting about them, and completely devoted to the contemplation of nature.
The film is about the misadventures of an American woman in Ireland. A very common topic is a stranger in unfamiliar lands. A lot of conflicts and misadventures. This is all easy and skillful here.
This is a very positive film, in which everything is fine “from the mustache to the tip of the tail” – from the acting, to music and entourage. I love you, Ireland!

I came across this film by chance while watching the filmography of Emma Adams. An actress who surprised me with the ease and simplicity of her roles. Without pretending to any deep disclosure of her heroines, all her images at the same time turn out to be very cute and romantic. Films performed by Emma Adams are best suited for easy family viewing in the circle of loved ones, in order to distract from the daily bustle and plunge into the fairy-tale world, as, for example, in the film “Enchanted”, or simply to learn all the charms of life around us, despite all the surprises that it presents to us. “How to Get Married in Three Days” (also called “Leap Year”) is just such a case. Based on one very interesting medieval Irish tradition, the film turned out to be sweet and charming, although it did not live up to my expectations. But everything in order.
Still in Ireland there is an ancient and very interesting custom, originating in the distant V century (in the XI century it was legalized). February 29 in Ireland, the fair sex is a unique and perfectly legal opportunity to change their fate: any woman has the right to propose to someone she would like to be her husband. An ancient legend says that once St. Brigitte of Ireland came to St. Patrick and told him about the hard part of the women of her monastery, who suffered from unrequited love. Brigitte was very outraged that women were forbidden to take initiative in relationships and should only expect a proposal from a loved one. St. Patrick imbued with the request of Brigitte and gave permission to the fair sex to make proposals to their chosen ones, but only in a leap year. It is said that Brigitte of Ireland summoned Patrick himself to be her husband, but she never received consent. Literally, a law passed in the XI century. said that on this day women have the right to “propose to men they like.” The poor man still had a chance to refuse, but in this case had to pay a fine of 1 pound. The results of a survey conducted in 2008 leap year, showed that the chances of success for women who decided to propose on February 29, up to 94%! However, probably trying to insure themselves against such cases, in many European countries until the XVIII century, February 29 was considered as a non-existent day, a date that has no legal status. Although February 29 is the ideal day for such an offer, it is believed that women can exercise their prerogative throughout the leap year.
To be fair, this old Irish tradition has spread throughout Britain. In the XVII century, a similar decree was issued in England, but it did not have a mandatory status, rather it was only permissive. And in Scotland as early as 1288, the Lords in Parliament, concerned about the increase in the number of old maidens in ancient clans (male knights died in thousands of wars and duels) announced that from now on and forever on this day, which, as is known, happens every four years, every woman in the state has the right to propose marriage to a man. The conditions are as follows: it is necessary that "every lady who goes to get married wears a crimson flannel undershirt and that its edge is clearly visible, otherwise the man will have to pay a fine for it." So I think the man who saw the woman that day in a similar garment was more than clear about her intentions, but the woman might not have found him if the poor fellow managed to hide. He could have refused, but he would have to pay her family a fine of £100. However, this kind of trial never came to us. The fine was exempted only if the man could prove that he was already engaged to another. This is an interesting tradition, but let’s go back to the film itself.
The film delighted with the beauty of Irish landscapes - always adored this country: open, and at the same time mysterious, full of the charm of earthly nature, at the same time trying to hide its secrets from a simple traveler. A country where hills and mountains alternate with lowlands and swamps, where the weather does not pamper the inhabitants (frequent drizzling rains, sea climate and a small number of warm sunny days a year), and at the same time beckons with its beauty, and, however strange it may seem, severity and mystery. Interestingly, by the way, Ireland is a small and only country in the world where the population today is less than two hundred years ago.
In the picture there are many interesting jokes and funny comic situations that will certainly cheer you up. However, the film, of course, and a certain melodramatic component, which turned out not quite what I expected from it. The performance of Emmy Adams seemed to me not quite sincere, this actress has always been successful in comic roles, but in dramatic I do not see her, unfortunately. When necessary, she does not play, or overplays the wrong place. Her partner in the picture Matthew Goode coped well with his role of Declan - the owner of a small roadside motel tired of constant deprivation of life, but still not desperate to fight to the end. And even though I had not seen this actor before, he seemed quite good to me.
Anyone who likes this film will definitely see the Laws of Attraction, I think you will certainly enjoy and will have something to compare the impressions of the old and mysterious Ireland.

It's time to be honest with yourself. I think deep down I’m still a fan of melodramatic love comedies, the so-called romcom (romantic comedy) or chick flick (cinema for girls of all ages). I don’t drive headlong into the nearest movie complex to catch the novelty of the genre with heat, but I still watch them when they become available on discs or online. I don’t lose hope that the high art of creating good, fun, memorable romantic comedies will one day revive and that’s why I keep watching new romcoms and chic flicks. Commercials with unbending tenacity declare each novelty the best, funny and touching romantic comedy we have ever seen. So far, my opinion differs from them, but as you know, young men (and not only) are nourished with hopes.
Leap Year (2010) directed by Anand Tucker does not deviate from the proven recipe used in the preparation of modern romantic comedy. The main character, a young successful interior designer Anna (Amy Adams) for several years meets with the ideal young man, a cardiologist Jeremy (Adam Scott). Their relationship moved to a higher level when Anna and Jeremy decided to buy a luxury apartment together in Boston’s most prestigious neighborhood. The next logical step is to buy a hand and heart ring on Valentine’s Day. February 14, but Jeremy somehow illogical, buys earrings instead of a ring and leaves for Dublin for an international cardiology conference. Anna decides to take advantage of the old Irish custom, allowing the girl to propose to her chosen one on February 29, leap year, and he, again, according to custom, is obliged to accept this offer.
It says it's done. Anna flies to Dublin, but by the will of fate, manifested in this movie in the form of terrible flightless weather, instead of Dublin, she finds herself in the godforsaken rural Irish wilderness. To get to Dublin by February 29, Anna hires a local bar owner named Declan, who has an old car, to take her to the capital. In the role of Declan - Matthew Goode - (well, I really want to get hyped here about the name, but I will not, I have already done many times). To say that Anna and Declan did not like each other at first sight is to say nothing. She thinks he's an uncouth, rude Irish rustic. He sees her as a typical self-assured, shameless American, and blonde, because what a normal person would call his own suitcase by name, even if it was Louis Vuitton. In addition, Anna’s romantic idea to fly across nine lands to propose to her boyfriend on February 29 seems to Declan completely idiotic. But she's willing to pay, and he needs the money to fix the bar. So they go on a trip through the broken and rain-washed Irish outback in a “classic” red car, which, as befits the classics in the romantic comedy, stops in the most inappropriate places, forcing poor Anna to climb the hills, wander through puddles on the knee and stumble on bumps and bumps in shoes for $ 600 on 5-inch (12.5 cm) heels, again, as it should be in modern romantic comedy. It would seem reasonable to pack a pair of comfortable sneakers in the precious Louis Vuitton, but, in bumper sneakers - this is from another movie, they did not enter the recipe for this comedy.
What else is in the recipe? The number one rule in love comedies, when they are also part-time road comedies, requires the mandatory sending of a guy and a girl on a joint trip who hate each other at the beginning of the film. Maybe the trip will be good for them? The filmmakers observe this rule sacredly, and to believe in the outcome of the journey or not depends on us, the audience.
Despite the predictability of Leap Year almost from the first shots, it is actually a cute, cozy little film, a kind of tiny movie. Perhaps because the two main characters played by Amy Adams and Matthew Goode are funny and generally pretty. I especially liked Hood. Declan was humorous and very charming. As an added bonus, Leap Year offers plenty of scenic views of green Ireland. I'll end by saying there are much less pleasant ways to spend 100 minutes. For example, watch Lars von Trier’s Antichrist.
In fact, she got what she expected - a beautiful love story, with elements of humor, sad moments and a sentimental ending. The final, of course, is predictable - you just have to look at the official poster, but this does not worsen the impression of watching the film.
Assessing humor
The film is more of a melodrama than a comedy, but some moments are really funny, even funny. And about the jokes in the direction of Louis' suitcase, I'd rather keep quiet - still funny.
Plot evaluation
The plot is banal, BUT. What, in fact, is not trivial in our lives? Everything around us. Whatever you've come up with, someone somewhere else has come up with something like this, it's natural. Therefore, my verdict is a very interesting plot, many cool episodes, romance, cows and beautiful landscapes.
Character assessment
I really liked Matthew Goode in this movie. Throughout the whole time I couldn’t take my eyes off him, so I confess I didn’t have time to pay attention to the acting: (But I think if it was bad, I would still notice it, so...) I think the actors were not stupid.
Who should watch
Definitely romantic! Fans to sit vanilla with a cup of tea and watch another movie love story - exactly at the right place. Now go to your favorite website where you watch movies and turn it on. If you don’t like it, I’ll pay you back. Well, it's a joke, of course, because nobody here pays money. I’ve always wanted to say that, but I think you won’t regret your time spent on this movie.
I don't recommend watching
People who don’t like movies about love. He's not that snotty, by the way, but it's a matter of taste. In general, it is recommended only for fans of this genre (!).
General impressions of the film
Watched it 15 minutes ago, so-- Positive, good mood... It's all very well.
P.S. Judging from this film, one can conclude that the Irish people are very superstitious. You may find this information useful if you travel to Ireland.
I can’t understand why they didn’t keep the title of the movie, Leap Year. This title accurately reflects the idea of the film. The film is very cute and romantic. Yes, I agree that the plot is built on the template of comedy melodramas, we have all seen this repeatedly. But the story is very touching and told by wonderful actors. I was amazed by Amy Adams. The actress very accurately conveys the desire of every girl to get married, by all means. Matthew Goode was able to match the actress, but for me, Amy was much stronger in all scenes. Adam Scott was not surprised, so his image is repeated.
I can’t call it comic or comedic, but it’s filled with humor in every scene, and I found myself smiling all the time. And I loved it a lot, because a lot of movies are just about making people laugh at a certain point, and the rest of the story can be forgotten. So, this film surprised by the fact that it created a romantic mood with easy and accurate strokes. For which I thank the director of the film - Anand Tucker.
The atmosphere of the film is also created by beautiful surrounding views. The film reflects the Irish color. I wanted to join this journey with the main characters of the film.

To begin with, I’m sure most of you don’t know this fact, that How to get married in 3 days is based on the Bollywood film Jab We Met, 2007. The director said he was very impressed with Jab We Met and decided to put forward his English version. So: this is not a remake in its pure form, but there is something in common in the films.
Opinions about this film and without me enough, so my review will be a comparison of these two works. To begin with, I will briefly tell the story Jab We Met / When we met: Aditya is a sullen businessman-loser. After being abandoned by his beloved, he boards the first train he sees and goes wherever his eyes look. A chatty, noisy Gita flies into this train by a hurricane, who is going to propose to her boyfriend. Incessant chatter, she drives Aditi so far that he gets off the train at night. Trying to stop the guy, Gita herself misses the train. At night, without money or tickets, they find themselves in an unfamiliar city. This is where all the turmoil begins.
Let’s start with the similarity of the characters. Anna and Gita - both girls are emotional, both very much want to get married, both are not adapted to anything, both are naive to the point of madness. Anna-Gita believes that her beloved will marry her, even if she shows initiative, and they will live happily ever after. Reality says otherwise.
Declan and Aditi. Not very talkative guys. You can't call them company. Sometimes they prefer to make harsh remarks, remaining restrained. Quite practical in life and serious. It's hard to get rid of them.
When two opposites (read: two chemical elements) meet, a chemical reaction occurs that changes both. Anna changed Declan and Gita changed Aditi. Picturesque places, adrenaline, adventure and in the end the fact that the heroes of complete opposites did their job. Only Anna, unlike Gita, knew she loved Declan. She looked at his moroseness, his barbs, and so on, a good man. Especially pleased comedic moments performed by Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. Not a bad duet. Karina Kapoor, the granddaughter of Raja Kapoor, known to our mothers and grandmothers, was also able to embody the cheerful simpleton Gita on the screen. Shahid Kapoor coped, but such roles are not his profile. Gita realized that she loved Aditi only at the very end. This, plus experienced joint adventures, and the films differ.
So: both films are worthy of attention, good comedies, which are so lacking in the world of cinema, littered with action movies and blood.
P.S. I hope this isn’t the last film based on Bollywood. There are rumors that the legendary Three idiots with the famous Aamir and the same Karina are also noticed by Hollywood and taken note. And this film, I tell you, in the first three weeks of world viewing grossed $70 million! And so that people could see it, some theaters reduced the number of sessions of the promoted Avatar! That's it, friends!
