Distortion. Strange movie. Unusual movie. An unexpected genre from Columbia pictures.
The description of the plot suggests another product of similar paintings about ' mad doctors ready to do anything for the sake of returning beauty to loved ones' But the film isn’t really that simple. It is not the doctor who is mad, but his girlfriend, and later his wife. She is ready to do anything to restore beauty. She does not care about her husband, his experiences, the fact that he does everything for her. He says he loves and wants to kill.
Mostly the story is smooth, but the very first murder and the last 30 minutes of the film are kept in constant tension, absolutely do not expect such turns.
Actors. I want to celebrate two.
Peter Cushing. The notorious personality in the genre of horrors here appears before us in a not quite usual role. Yes, he remains a good hero, but his actions are not of a positive quality. Played great, no complaints. You can say that here his acting skills surpassed all heights. I could be wrong, though.
Kate O'Mara. I personally know her for her role as a villain in the TV series 'Doctor Who'. It was nice to see her earlier work. Although the role is small, but performed perfectly.
It's an interesting cameraman's approach to this film, especially the death and murder scenes. The music in this movie is unusual. It creates special tension at the right moments.
It is only a pity that the film is not in the Russian translation, but even with an average level of knowledge of English, you can understand the essence of the picture.
