It is never too late to start a new life. The best of the old American comedies still surprise us with a successful combination of memorable jokes, veiled morality, unpredictable plots and charismatic heroes. And we are not talking only about such classic and well-known films as “Gentlemen prefer blondes” or “Only girls in jazz”. There are many other, almost forgotten comedies that still retain their somewhat old-fashioned charm. Among these films and the musical comedy “Rosie!”, which brought together two wonderful actresses of different generations – four-time Oscar nominee Rosalind Russell and the idol of teenagers of the early 1960s Sandra Dee. And the role of the son-in-law of the title character was played by Leslie Nielsen, at that time not yet a legendary comedian, and not too lucky performer of various secondary characters.
In the center of the plot of the picture is a rich and generous widow Rosie Lord, who, despite her considerable age, loves to have fun and drives at great speed in a luxury car. When she was young, she wanted to become an actress, but never fulfilled her dream. And now Rosie wants to buy an old abandoned theater where her late husband proposed to her to perform on stage. Her grown-up granddaughter Daphne supports her grandmother's wishes, but Rosie's daughters strongly oppose the idea, because they fear that her mother will waste her money and thereby reduce their future inheritance. To prevent Rosie’s dream from being realized, they plan to declare her insane and even organize her abduction. Now only a devoted and caring Daphne can save her beloved grandmother. A great comedy about how it’s never too late to start a new life.
