Robin Hood of the desert The fairy tale “for any adult age” from Frederick de Cordoba, whose motifs and characters strongly resemble the very vivid picture of the oriental adventures of John Rawlins “Arab Nights” (1942). They should not be compared, if only because “Arab Nights” (with a budget of $ 2 million!) was filmed exclusively “as an oriental fairy tale” against the background of the war in Europe. De Cordoba filmed his film in peacetime, when the demand for such films was still quite high.
The writers are three: Jack Pollexhen (this is his third work, but in the future he will repeatedly turn to such characters as Dr. Jekyll and Sinbad), Aubrey Weisberg (he has already had more than 20 films) and Gerald Drayson Adams, who preferred Western and adventure. In the film de Córdoba each of them contributed, “saturating” the usual adventures and fairy tale, and “Middle Eastern Western”, and light, not binding, humor. This is primarily about the characters.
A very free interpretation of “customs and customs” Oriental 800 years ago. Some such roads brought together Princess Scheherazade, Sinbad, Aladdin and Jasmine - only the director knows. “Videococktail” turned out to be funny in the sense that all the historical paraphernalia and oriental flavor performed entirely by “white” actors is an additional reason to perceive the movie in a humorous manner, although the actors, both the first and second “line” are good: Canadian Yvonne de Carlo (Princess Scheherazade), Englishman Richard Green (Desert Hawk), American Rock Hudson (Captain of Princess Ras). Easy and unassuming movie.
