Mumbai vacation. I called this review, by analogy with the film "Roman Holiday", because there is a similarity between these two films. When I started watching it, I immediately noticed this similarity. But it's not a remake, 100%. It's just a very similar story with Indian flavor.
A young princess, Sapna, lives in a huge palace with an evil stepmother and a scoundrel administrator who cannot take possession of the estate because it is bequeathed to the princess, her late parents. But they do what they want, and they control the life of the princess, tell her when to sleep, what to eat, what to study, what to read, how to dress, etc. The only joy that the poor thing has is the TV, through which she learns what is in the world and how it looks. And of course, her biggest dream is to see the world in reality. Once she manages to escape from the palace and get into the real world, in Mumbai, and it turned out to be so huge, and very much liked Sapna. And her incredible adventures began. She meets Raj, an unemployed musician who lives in Mumbai and is constantly looking for work. He, by virtue of his intelligence, helped the girl, was kind to her, and she, who has never seen anyone other than those who live in the palace and have surrounded her since childhood, thinks that all people are as good as Raj. And he starts following him everywhere. That was so funny. And at this time, the stepmother and the manager went down looking for her all over the area.
This is the beginning of this story. A wonderful film, funny, easy, kind. You can watch the whole family. The cast is great. There's so many stars in one movie, you're gonna rock. Taboo (Sapna) is such a young, mischievous, very beautiful and touching. The role of a princess suited her very well, and how she sat on her embroidered saris and a diamond tiara on her head, just shine. And simple clothes, an ordinary girl, she really suited. In general, of those actresses who are not dressed in anything, they will still sparkle (as was always the case with Rekha). That Audrey Hepburn in the film mentioned at the beginning, that Taboo in this film are very harmonious. And it was they who made these films so vivid and memorable. And what are the eyes of Taboo, it is simply impossible to resist. Here Raj and did not stand.
Rishi Kapoor (Raj), as always magnificent. In general, I started watching this film from his filmography, and even though it was shot 26 years ago, I saw it for the first time (and again my heart shrank from the realization that Rishi is no longer in this world). Rishi Kapoor here is already a mature man, he is over 40 already, overweight, but still insanely charming, cute, touching and kind. For the first time I saw it paired with Taboo. He certainly looks older than her, but they looked harmonious. He is so solid, soft, reliable, and she is such a fragile, tender, touching, just the perfect combination. And the way he fought here, it's a sight. He never fought like that in any of his films. When his fists met with the body of his opponents, it seemed that it was Amitabh Bachchan himself in his best fighters, who beats the villains to the right and left, or Mithun, or Anil Kapoor. Brilliant. It was very unusual to see Rishi, so famously scattering to the sides of all the scoundrels. The way I danced was a pleasure to watch. I just admired both of them throughout the film.
Anupam Kher (Anand), who played a friend Raj, was great. First, such a money-hungry little journalist looking for a sensation, and spoiled all the romance for lovers, and then a friend who repents of what he did, who feels guilty. However, Anupam in any role is great. A brilliant actor, I love him very much. Without him, this story would not have happened.
The managing scoundrel, of course, was played by the great Amrish Puri. Oh, this look of him, this cunning jackal, this predatory smile, and the intrigues he wove, his whole image, make you tremble simply. Amrish-ji, as always above all praise. Gulshan Grover, who played his son, who dreamed of marrying a princess. He's a real badass, too. Well done. The actress who played the queen's stepmother, I don't know. I've never seen her in a movie before, or I just haven't seen her, but she's very natural. I like it. I had some emotions, and I wanted to strangle this bastard. I liked Kader Khan in five different ways, adding zest and humor to the film.
I loved the songs and dances. In general, the music is very tender and romantic all. Clips are incredibly beautiful. Rishi and Taboo are great in them. The way they both danced, I looked straight, clearly, harmoniously, in unison, completely dissolved in music and dance. Rishi Despite its fullness, I really liked the dance.
Such a cute charming film, I want to smile, feel sorry, enjoy life. This movie brought so many bright colors. It looks easy and easy, a pleasure. For me, this is the standard of how to make a good movie. The movie looks in one breath. Screenplay, acting, camera work, editing - all of the highest quality. There is everything, and chases, and escape from the palace, and return to the palace, and again escape, and shooting, and adventure. A beautiful story made with great taste and real movie charm. Watch and enjoy yourself.
