A small masterpiece created by the duo Prakash Mehra and Amitabh Bachchan. The greatest Indian film, seen 52 times and loved forever. "The Drunker" is the same film, and the very role of Amitabh Bachchan that I mentioned recently in the review of the film "Ghumer". And of course, I couldn't help but watch it again.
Prakash Mehra was the director who gave the much-needed superhit to Amitabh Bachchan in the heyday of his career. "Long payback" overnight made Amitabh an actor to be reckoned with. Subsequent joint works of Prakash Mehra and A.B. were commercially successful and received the status of superhits - "Heart-eater", "Lord of Destiny", "Orphan", "Devoted Servant" and "Drunker"
.
"Sharaabi / Drunker" was released on the screens already when Amitabh almost left Bollywood for the career of a politician. "Drunk" was destined to become a big hit, a real pearl "golden period of Indian cinema", which to this day receives from critics deserved praise and high marks.
The main character of the film is Vicki Kapoor (Amitabh Bachchan), the only son of the multimillionaire industrialist Amarnath Kapoor (Pran), since childhood deprived of fatherly attention and love. Preferring endless business projects to communicate with his son, Amarnath provides the child with cares, a once loyal friend, and now a devoted servant Munshi Phulchand, or as he calls Wiki - Munshi-ji (Om Prakash). All education on the part of the father is reduced to indoctrination and mockery on any occasion. From a young age addicted to alcohol, grew up Wiki becomes a complete drunkard who sees no meaning in life without "heating". Nevertheless, alcohol did not harden his heart, sensitive to other people’s troubles. As the sole heir to daddy's millions, Vicki easily part with the money in favor of those in need. Amarnath plans to arrange a profitable marriage for his son, but Viki has already fallen in love with Mina (Jaya Prada), a dancer of classical dances, which is completely unacceptable for Amarnatha. In the end, daddy-millionaire deprives Viki state and kicks out of the house. Freed from his father’s control and without any skills to make a living, Vicky is faced with a serious test of survival in the world. Although Munshi-ji, the only person who truly loves Vicki as his own son, and who knows him better than himself, leaves with him so as not to leave his boy to his fate.
An excellent dramatic play by Amitabh Bachchan, throughout the film demonstrating without playfulness and caricature that a person in a state of alcoholic intoxication can be funny, stylish, romantic, tragic and vulnerable. I generally recently tend to the fact that his best roles Amit-ji played at the junction of the 70-80s, the best roles are not a star, but an artist.
In the film, there are some brilliant scenes in the clashes between son and father, when Vicky tries to show his father the reverse side of his business, which is detrimental to the poor, some scenes are stunning with tragedy and sincerity. The magnificent dialogues, reinforced by the piercing play of Amitabha and Prana, are worthy of a separate mention.
Jaya Prada is beautiful, and this is not the first film with Amitabh. She's an amazing dancer, one of the few! And here her dancing is great, it is impossible to break away from her. And in drama, she's great too.
Pran may seem too cruel, but, apparently, this is the director's idea to create a contrast with the already transformed hero. The line of the police inspector, whose future was secured with a good heart Wiki, is also a very interesting idea, such were the standards of old films that are three hours long.
"Drunk" - a film that can please everyone and everyone. Comedy, drama, music, action, emotion and everything we love about Bollywood cinema. Any film featuring Amitabh is definitely on my screening list because of its stunning costumes. Which is always stylish and irresistible And here in a white suit (white trousers, jacket, shirt and even tie) and in white shoes, he looks like an angel in the flesh, only wings are missing. His wardrobe always attracts me in all his films. So stylish a man that just breathtaking. Even in the clothes of the porter (in the film of the same name), he manages to look like a king. His becoming, his straightening, his proud and at the same time graceful gait, truly make him the Emperor of Bollywood. To this day, there is no equal in this Amitu-ji. Although Abhishek largely repeats the style of his father, and also presents himself in all its glory.
Amitabha’s skill is fully revealed in this film: he convincingly conveys the emotions of his character and makes the viewer experience every minute of his life. The role of Vicki was not easy to play, and many Hindi film actors tend to go overboard, portraying a drunken man, but Amitabh Bachchan perfectly balances this. You believe that he really is "understood" the whole film.
Despite the fact that the film was made almost 40 years ago, it is still relevant today. Alcoholism remains one of the most serious problems in our world.
The Drunken Woman is not just a drama about the problems of human life. It’s also the story of how people stop being people in pursuit of money, stop noticing people around them. And the children of such billionaires are often the most unhappy people in the world, because they have everything from birth, but only material, but do not have the main thing - the love and attention of their parents, their care and support. This is very important for children, even for billionaires. And very suffer from this, because no money available to buy the love and attention of parents impossible.
Another important aspect of this film is its musical accompaniment, created by the greatest composer Bappi Lahiri. Each song was written specifically for this film and helps convey the atmosphere of each scene. I especially love the song "Amitabha" with a joint dance with "Jaya Prada". They are both beautiful.
"Drunk" is a movie that everyone should watch at least once in their lives. It makes you think about life and how important it is to protect relationships with loved ones, which once lost, to restore in the future is almost impossible.
And of course, this is a real masterpiece of Indian cinema, which will remain in the memory of the viewer for many years.
