Cleansing sadness. A very good movie, I watched it for the first time. I even read that the movie was in the Soviet box office, and apparently it was dubbed. But I have never seen it, and yesterday I did not find it anywhere with dubbing, everywhere with only one voice voice (apparently on the Internet this film was with subtitles for a long time).
The story is very good - lives one happy friendly family: the owner of a small shop of musical instruments Kaylash (Shashi Kapoor), his beautiful wife Sima (Vidya Sinha) and idolizing her beloved father little Pinky, who can not even sleep until her father sings lullaby. One day, the serene life of three loving people is disturbed by misfortune. Defending the girl, in a random, ridiculous fight, Kailash kills his opponent. The murdered man is the son of a power-hungry politician. The girl's relatives are bribed, and, speaking at the trial, the victim slanders her savior. Kaylash has been sentenced to death. The life of a happy family collapsed in seconds. Before the execution, Kailash asks Sima to leave the city so that his beloved daughter never finds out what happened to her father.
So the express train runs along the river and she imagines her husband being executed. There was no evidence to confirm that he did not deserve the highest measure, it was an accident, and now the train carries Sima with her 5-year-old daughter away from this place. Where the eyes look, she will fall in love with the ironed small businessman Rattan (Sanjiv Kumar), will swear to keep the secret of her first marriage and will become the ideal adoptive father Pinky and the new spouse Sime. But their call sign, which in the evenings played the piano, did not leave her heart for a second during these fourteen years. And now from the memories, she seems to go crazy - clearly hears an old and seemingly forgotten melody over the years in her new living room. Or is there really someone out there?
Elegant melodrama with beautiful actors who played at the highest level. Indian cinema: his language is unthinkable without musical elements, without sharp camera hits on the hero's face across the hall under the fatal harmonies of the orchestra, without pouring in moments of anger male eyes, without women's lamentations. And those who speak his language or in the field of cinema have no language barriers at all, will have a reason to lament how irreplaceable first love is, that our second, third and other unions are only attempts to give existence the appearance of life; to grieve, how sad you are at the tenderest songs of childhood, which, no matter how much you smile, are still given to the heart by a mourning march on the lost integrity of feelings.
It is such sensual melodramas that, in my opinion, have such a wide response when whole nations think that “this is about them”: by placing the action in rich houses, directors, firstly, allow feelings that are not clouded by considerations of the slightest need to manifest themselves in an absolute degree, and secondly, they get the opportunity to endlessly experiment with costume design and interiors that are able to emphasize the emotional content of the scene like nothing.
Among the most memorable and greatest actors of India 70s remained Shashi Kapoor, which he is here: still quite young, handsome, curly, with his mesmerizing smile, with velvet eyelashes, in an unbuttoned yellow shirt, in a jacket and cap, brown suede gloves and with a girl in her arms (small children and large dogs are generally extremely to the face of 30-35-year-old brunettes). And then, in prison, with eyes wide open, expressing such the greatest tragedy of life that it breaks my heart to look at him. This view cannot be forgotten for a very long time, it contains the whole undisguised tragedy of a man innocently convicted and sentenced to death.
Sanjiv Kumar is Bollywood's second greatest boulder.Every role, even the smallest and episodic, is always very bright and performed at the highest level. I was very worried about him the whole movie. For the first time in his life, he fell in love with a woman, became attached to her child, and tried to help her survive, married her. But what is their family like? They just live under one roof, his wife is loyal to her first husband and still loves him. A Rattan can only be content to communicate with Pinky in which he does not revere his soul, and pour his failed love with alcohol. In his eyes, all the pain of his heart is so clearly reflected that it seems that this is his personal life tragedy. But how long will this continue?
In the musical anthology of Bollywood there are unique melodies R. D. Burman, which today in good music stores is given a rightful place between Sakamoto and Morricone.
It is strange that, despite the obvious success - this film, although it was at the box office in the USSR, was little known. In India "Redemption", by the way, became one of the events of the year; in another Indian hit of the Soviet box office, in "Oaths and Promises", the hero Amitabh Bachchan, a bandit and a thief, hides from surveillance in the cinema where this particular film is taking place.
Thank you so much for a rare, purely Indian film, people who put it on the free Internet, and voiced it. The soul is so drawn to that old style! Good Indian melodrama, in the best Bollywood traditions.
A good movie for me doesn’t end with “The End.” Too many movies are meant to give the viewer two or three hours of entertainment and leave him indifferent and dissatisfied. But there are other films that linger in the memory, grow and strengthen in it until the imagination begins to draw entire episodes, which the author of the film only hinted at. And I believe that "Redemption" will turn out to be such a movie for many. That’s what he did for me.
The main theme of the film, of course, is the human need for love, kindness, in the search for justice, and in the family, which many can only dream of. In a true loving family, in which everyone understands each other from one look only, without words, in which each supports the other so as not to happen, in which there is no lies and betrayal, fear and cowardice, but there is a strength of spirit, a loving heart capable of sacrificing itself to a loved one and a real spiritual attachment, in the purity of which we so want to believe.
I highly recommend watching this beautiful film, to everyone who has not yet seen it, and feel after watching a slight sadness in your heart, from a possible unfulfilled hope for your own happiness. But it's definitely not the kind of sadness that makes you depressed. It can be said - "cleaning sadness", from which tears appear in the eyes and the heart shrinks, but the desire to change something in your life is stronger than ever. And if a film evokes such feelings, I believe that such a film deserves to take an honorable place in the home collection.
