Beautiful madness. Bollywood classic Sujit had it all: his girlfriend was adorable Jenny, a loyal friend of Sham and a nice job - he is a singer, dancer and saxophonist. But as a result of unlucky circumstances, Sujit is forced to take on the murder charge and pose as a psychopath to avoid execution. However, Shalini, a psychiatric doctor, quickly uncovers the deception, but the story does not end there, as Sujit is destined to return to the Shalini clinic, this time with real insanity.
The script for this film was written specifically for Shammi Kapoor. And that's absolutely his role. Choleric Shammi, already a little fat, but ready to comedy to self-forgetfulness, play to the stupefy of his puffy, green-eyed face. His exaggerated acting is sometimes just hard to watch, but nevertheless Shammi, the most stupid of the Kapoors, is cool (a unique acting nature, somewhat identical to Jim Carrey, but he has a solid banter, and Shammi is a romantic, and of course his manner of playing openly is similar to the acting of Raj Kapoor, his famous brother). Sujit's first ostentatious insanity is stupid and funny, he jumps on tables, dances and sings, a kind of favorite of Bedlam, the soul of society. The second madness is real, Sujit becomes apathetic, aggressive and depressed, has partial amnesia, is unshaven and sullen. A man who has lost hope and love, with what genuine bitterness he speaks of his loneliness, in India orphanhood is a sentence, bad karma. Great scene of the madness of the hero at the wedding of Sham and Jenny. Playing the piano, without a word of reproach to friends, in contrasting lights, at the peak moment we do not see his face, but Jenny sees him and screams with horror.
The role of Jenny was played by the charming Helen, the legendary dance queen of the 1960s-70s, here she also dances, but mostly her role is serious, very dramatic. Fragile, ephemeral Jenny is a victim girl, blameless. Sham as Prem Chopra in the role of a two-faced villain. Dr. Chalini was played by the then popular actress Asha Parech, Shalini or Shalu A textbook example of the Florence Nightingale effect, interest and pity for the patient are reborn in love with maternal notes. I don’t like Asha Parekh very much, but she always gives a certain level. Here it is not bad, and looked neat, moderate wigs, under a white robe elegant light saris. Respectable Dr. Shalou is a humanist, against electroshock, psychoanalysis is replacing punitive medicine. Especially crazy in their fools are mostly harmless fools or lonely unhappy.
It is also worth noting the high-quality work of the operator, a beautiful, Bollywood-bright picture, acid costumes in the fashion of the uncouth 60s, there was a place for songs-dances, and the final muzzle did not refuse, drama drama, but did not forget about the entertainment.
Outcome: Many Hindus watch only novelties and movies of the 90s and 2000s, without knowing anything about these little Bollywood diamonds of the 60s. "Crazy" intelligent thriller with pressure on psychology. Don’t miss it, I recommend it to Indomans and those who love movies with eccentric characters. Shammy's cool!
