Vicente Aranda: in pieces (attention to fans of giallo) The honorable man. Family, serious, solid. He's tense the whole movie. Someone scares him, something oppresses him. The resulting box with the severed hand of the woman is buried with it in the garden. No, no. He won't complain to the police about anyone who sent him this strange surprise. But when he is invited to meet, it is easy enough to agree to take a potent drug and be on the other side of illusions. And notice that there's only one side to what's going on.
Another perspective will highlight the community of women. After all, an attack on a man is nothing but revenge on a close friend of a woman, whose death he is guilty of. The most interesting thing will begin at the end, when the wife begins to approach the avenger.
But for all the intricate plot design, the main thing in this film, as in other early works of Vicente Aranda - form. It creates such a self-contained world filled with symbols that it is hardly possible to attribute the film to a particular genre. Like giallo, but not giallo, there are elements of a psychological thriller, but not that. Surrealism? Not really. A parable? Well, maybe. The genre is simply called the early Vicente Aranda.
