It didn't fly. On the one hand, there are no obvious shoals in this film: all the storylines are somehow connected, all the details are involved, there are no eye-catching camera blunders either. The quality of the film is normal. Only one thing is missing - the creators of the film failed to make the system of images alive, so that the situation was interesting to follow, and the characters - to sympathize.
The problem with this film is that nothing grows out of a potentially interesting plot, everything is too flat, declarative and without nuances. For example, the film touches on the theme of Valera’s disappointment in the expedition – but it is not disclosed, just says that he will accompany the cargo, and then he is already walking along Kurepka. Then comes the topic of aunts who are not so boring - but it does not show how Zheka changed his attitude to what is happening, how he got high with them, we only hear from him about the walk. It is not that the film does not show anything at all, but what is shown is somehow too superficial. Instead of the actual movie, where there are some events on the screen, the viewer is offered just a story about them, dry as the release of evening news. This is compounded by the occasional voice-over that would have added irony to a lively film. But everything is so straightforward and stereotyped that there is simply no room for any irony. Moreover, this pattern is also implausible: well, it is impossible so easily to stop being floppy and learn everything, and even on a log it is famous to drive. To solve this topic, it was necessary to come up with a convincing motivation for Zheka, but this in the film, like many other things that could make it richer and more interesting, is absent. It is not surprising that good actresses in the role of aunts there is simply nothing to play: aunts have no characters, they are just abstract-positive and businesslike.
Overall, the film was too dull for comedy and too shallow for drama. Even the race leaves you puzzled: how can you manage to shoot such a dynamic scene as a race so boring? It’s no surprise that this movie got lost in the shadows 'Welcome, or No-Terms Admission ', filmed the same year. If a work of art has a bright, vivid beginning, you forgive even the existing shortcomings. And when a film has no merit, even the absence of obvious flaws cannot save it. The only thing better in this film than ' after all' is the image of Valery, who seems to be a champion and macho, but hides behind a friend-rohli.
