Damiano Damiani - Uomo di rispetto Once again, after "The Sprut" and "Connections Through the Pizzeria," Damiano Damiani makes a film about the mafia with Michele Placido in the title role. This time, Michele plays the role of a simple driver of an important person who has the right to “solve” certain issues and represent interests. After a series of changes, our hero will receive a promotion, but will his position become sustainable?
In this film, the elderly Damiani most violently falls on the foundations of "Cosa Nostra". It shows that in order to survive in this environment, it is necessary to obey the most inhuman orders. We are not even talking about simple murders – we are talking about the murder of the closest people. At the same time, it makes no sense to talk about any stability seriously. How much does it cost to talk to a wounded police officer in a car? Placido, not understanding what is what, directly specifies from him who he needs to work with now.
This fiery confession, which was clearly borrowed from real life vicissitudes, is diluted by the not too skillful play of a number of actresses and overly linear decisions about the personal life of the hero. Both of his women look too harsh and radical. This applies to the wife, who was really surprised by her husband’s mafia connection, and the mistress, who is more like a leftist activist. Such a design makes the film slip.
The finale is also stalled, in which the desired is clearly presented as valid. Unlike "Sprut", the film was completely devoid of fantasy magic. The mafia is portrayed as a bunch of scum, devoid of structural integrity and moral guidelines. The veils of mystery are gone. Instead, they formed a crater of disgust. Perhaps this was the author’s attitude to the topic initially?
