«You were always on my mind…» I love the work of Elvis Presley very much, and it so happened that the first film I saw about him was Elvis and Me, a story told on behalf of Elvis’ only wife, Priscilla Presley. This film was based on a book written by Priscilla, and to be honest, I honestly can’t understand why this wonderful film went unnoticed by most people. Who better to tell us about Elvis than Priscilla? That’s why I really like this movie. It shows everything that both protagonists had to go through, how Priscilla’s view of Elvis changed with age, do not forget that when they first met, she was only 14 years old! And the same goes for Elvis, as his attitude toward Priscilla has changed over the years.
Dale Midkiff, in my opinion, really, a little similar to Elvis. But the most important thing is, of course, not in appearance, but in the game of this character. He played the king of rock and roll extremely interestingly, got used to the role, and, despite his unlike Presley, sometimes it seemed that he did not play at all, that he was Presley. His Elvis is incredibly charming and touching.
Susan Walters as Priscilla Presley is adorable, just adorable. She believes in everything, when she is 14 and when she is 24. She played Priscilla in a way that no one has ever played, even when compared to Priscilla in Elvis. The early years, where it was performed by Antonia Bernadette, are two big differences. Look at Walters - she's direct at 14, seductive at 20, sad at 26, but she's charming everywhere! As for Bernadette, I just can’t believe her, she’s overplaying or not playing, but you just can’t believe her, and you don’t see Priscilla, you see a completely different person.
I honestly can’t understand why this movie went unnoticed by Elvis fans. And I advise everyone who loves the King of Rock and Roll to look at this film, because it is really good and tells us one of the most beautiful love stories of the last century, and even though this story ended so sadly, we can always turn on Elvis’ song “You were always on my mind ...” and understand that no matter what others say, he really loved Priscilla all his life.
