Even I want to see what one man can do against Khalid. An amazing story happened with Randeep Hood, I saw him in such roles that not only did not impress me, but did not even give me the opportunity to remember him. It wasn’t until “The Highway” that I noticed it and found it wasn’t the first movie I’d seen with it.
“The Other World” and “Risk” have already been watched purposefully. Both films were directed by Visram Savant, both are dark, not typical for Indian cinema, crime drama and in both Randeep Hood more than in its place. No play, the actor just lives in his role. Why did these two films connect together in my mind as two life choices, one against the law, the other in the name of the law?
Inspector Suryacant, principled and incorruptible, determined to end crime in Mumbai, a bone in the throat not only for the criminal, but also for his department. Incorruptibles always cause fear and distrust. At a certain point, the fight against crime is reduced to a personal confrontation between Suryacant and the largest Don Khalid ("Vinod Khanna"), who, although he drew attention to him, at first underestimated, because he was used to judging by another. But the price, as you know, has everything, Khalid understands that for Suryacanth it is his business, his career. It means hitting on it. Yes, war is not on equal terms, but both heroes have to take risks. It is not clear who will win. And will anyone win in this meat grinder? As always, political games, money for power, power for money, human life is worthless. And as always, one against all.
How good is Randeep in such a role! Of course, you can blame him for some repetition of images, but he is so attractive with his masculinity that it can be forgiven. His hero is a tough and merciless man who at a certain point simply had nothing to lose. For him there are no rules and no boundaries, he will go to the end. I have to admit, I really like these types. There is the truth of life in them, either you sell and play by the rules, or you are Inspector Suryacant and the system will chew you up and spit out, but the fact is that for some people there is no choice, you choose, you doubt. There is no doubt, there is no other way.
Of the shortcomings of the film, I would call the presence of a musical and dance number, as long as I remember one. Not at all appropriate. And I didn't like the girl. All the other characters are very organic, and the girl is somehow on the side. Apparently, the producer demanded that it would be, and there is no need for those who want traditional Indian cinema - it is not here, just do not need to look at all, so as not to spoil their karma.
But fans of Randeep is very much worth watching, and maybe not even fans, and maybe after this film you will become them.
