Civilization ends on the ocean. Then the person simply becomes part of the food chain, not necessarily being at the top. Military, people are weird. First, scientists are required to breed some dangerous species of animal so that it can be used in their operations, and then hastily destroy both the animal and the scientist. And it seems that not once burned on it, and everyone continues to experiment. And as you might have guessed, our guest today will tell about another mistake of scientists and the incompetence of the military. So this is "Humanoids from the Abyss."
The plot, in fact, promotes environmental protection, since as a result of the fact that a dishonest fisherman pours waste into the water, the fish begins to grow in size and lose its taste, and the monster, who miraculously escaped from the military, receives such a necessary biological supplement. What do you say? Take care of nature people, or water will drag you all to the bottom!
This film is a remake and at the same time a spin-off of the picture with the same name, released in the distant eighties. And I must say in some century the remake not only did not become worse than the original, but also surpasses it in all respects. And not the last role in this was played by the fact that the writers decided to take all the famous moments from the original and fasten a little logic to them. For in the original picture logic limped on both legs, and the explosion of the boat was arranged as improbably as possible. And here everything is simple - a cigarette, and gasoline spilled on the hold of the ship. The writers also explained how the “amphibious people” came into the world and why there are so many of them here. And even if this theory looks silly, but we are not watching a scientific and educational movie, but a horror film, so this is forgivable. As for the spin-off, I did not just mention it, since in this film no-no, and flashing shots from the old tape. Some would say that the creators simply did not have enough money, but this is not true. The budget, though modest, was still there. So this is rather an opportunity to show that the events of the paintings of the eightieth and ninety-six years develop as if in parallel and it goes to the picture only in a plus. And the disadvantage is the fact that almost the whole picture takes place in pitch darkness, even though the eye is dug out. It is clear that this is done in order to hide the ridiculous costumes of monsters and a meager budget, but still somewhat unpleasant.
Now as for the cast. Oddly enough, this time the creators decided not to limit themselves to a couple of on-duty phrases in key characters, but decided to endow the latter with character. I don't mind. This is only good for the film. So who do we have? And we have Wade Parker, who seems to be the main character of the picture, but in fact is a nunny and a rag, who is not even able to put his arrogant partner in his place, what can we say about the willful daughter? Curious type of hero, poorly revealed truth, but interesting. However, he and all the other actors are eclipsed by the dishonest fisherman Bill Taylor, who pours hormonal supplements into the water to make the fish bigger, and therefore more expensive. Also, Bill, unlike Ued, is not without charisma and oratory, which he is ready to demonstrate to everyone. Slippery, yeah. As for the other actors, they just played and did not remember anything special.
Summing up, I want to say that this is quite a good though disposable horror movie, which, although it lacks stars from the sky, but it is quite capable of keeping the viewer at the screen.
