Victim of circumstances Kate can't get in touch with her little sister, who's out of town. The phone's silent. Then the worried woman takes the car and rushes to her sister’s cottage, but she is nowhere, the call of friends gave nothing. Outside the windows torrential rain, the storm played out not for a joke. Crazy with anxiety, Kate decides to spend the night at her sister’s house.
Strong American TV thriller. Of course, the main character, a rich fifa from San Francisco, is blunt (although actress Elizabeth Montgomery is quite cute and holds almost the entire film), and often behaves as a mam-sahib - self-confident and used to ordering, but watching is nevertheless interesting. Correctly exhibited horror accents, good and the work of the operator and musical design. The actors are simply counted on their fingers, it is impossible not to mention the colorful Eileen Hekart in the role of an elderly housekeeper, because a poor but proud woman is forced to work for young shameless capitalists.
A special conversation is the location, here and hilly San Francisco and the road to the coast and the sister’s house space is completely thought out, such a wooden cottage style, the interiors bizarrely combine the style of a village house and expensive mirrors, crystal, antiques, beautiful cuisine. The heroine puts in a huge fireplace not just wood, but directly logs! In the house live animals - a red cat, a shaggy dog and a bird in a golden cage. Of course, attention was paid to costumes - the style of the 70s with elegant silhouettes, maxi dresses, costume jewelry. The characters of the film travel in expensive cars, also stylish and large. The plot is essentially simple, almost theatrical, but at the same time there is something transcendental, claustrophobic about Kate’s misadventures. There is a scene in the film where the branches of an old pine tree, during a thunderstorm, break a window and burst into a beautiful, cozy room full of trinkets, it sounds like a metaphor, the leitmotif of the whole story.
The result: in the 70s, American television was rapidly developing, in addition to TV series and TV programs, the audience was pampered with full-length films, and there were not so few good thrillers, for example, Night of Terror (1972), Something Evil (1972), Trapped (1973), Dying Room Only (1973), Victim will certainly take a place in this row. I recommend it.
