Amateur #9 In early 2009 in Russia on licensed DVDs released the film “The Surgeon”. Cleverly disguised by Lizard Cinema Trade as a dismemberment in the spirit of Saw and Hostel, the film spoiled many evenings for those people who bought this creation on the disc. And the answer is simple – it turned out to be an amateur student film, which cost the creators $ 60, and in the credits it flashes the inscription “Not for sale”. How the film got to Russian licensed DVDs is a mystery. But interesting is another fact - this, with your permission, the director, a couple of years before "The Surgeon" shot a couple of horrors - and one of them was released on the discs of the same office.
So, we have the horror Chris Schwartz 'Psychosis'. I cannot say anything clear about the director, except that he is his own director, screenwriter, producer, cameraman, etc. After the release of “The Surgeon” in 2009, however, in 2022 suddenly appears some ghostly new project. It is a pity that York Entertainment da Lizard have already gone into the sunset.
The plot revolves around a night guard who patrols some important research center. At first, everything goes smoothly, but then some damn thing begins to happen: first strange sounds, and then not the most pleasant strangers. The degree of incandescence increases with every minute - soon there will be incomprehensible creatures that will jump in black garbage bags (no kidding), and the main character will want to find out what is happening here.
Well, if you're familiar with the above-mentioned Surgeon, I'll just say that the quality is the same, only with a different plot. For the uninitiated, this is the movie that 99% of viewers will turn off in 5 minutes. There is no normal sound in the film, at least some lighting, I am already silent about the acting and special effects. The role of the research center is performed by some office space, which was provided by one of the friends of Chris Schwartz. In the role of the soundtrack again guitar howls. Everything is just incredibly cheap and incredibly angry.
However, Comrade Schwartz is to be commended for both the Psychosis and the Surgeon. Despite the complete lack of budget, the film crew is really trying and in such conditions shoots very decently. Both films have quite a sane script, albeit amateur. I have already written about amateurism, which was done at the best technical level, but the script spoiled the whole picture so much that I wanted to turn it off. Here everything is exactly the opposite - strongly (I would even say very strongly) the picture is lame, but there is no plot. Yes, the denouement is incredibly banal and completely unoriginal, but I see that Chris Schwartz and his friends tried, and it is worth a lot.
Yes, the credits for this film also say “Not for sale”, so I don’t see any point in scolding it for quality. This is an amateur film made by friends for other friends. Apparently, it somehow fell into the hands of York Entertainment, and the guys thought, ‘Why not?’ Anyway, not the worst representative of the budget-free video.
