A genius concert. Depeche Mode is so much meaning in these two words, so much history, so many people and even generations. For more than 30 years, the band has delighted the audience with its crazy music, endless energy, amazing performances. One of these enchanting performances is the concert "Touring the Angel - Live in Milan".
I decided to write about it because it was with the album Playing the Angel that I began my acquaintance with the work of this legendary band. And ever since, it's been love. Strange, rare love.
Now for the concert. Bright and incredible.
The scene design in this tour is one of the most successful for the entire existence of the group: space-like synthesizers, a huge dome, Martin Gore in a strange costume with wings, a bright light show. I immediately want to celebrate the director’s work. Blue Leach, replacing Anton Corbijn in this post, coped with the task, in my opinion, no worse than the master. A variety of close-ups as best as possible allows you to feel the song, feel the musicians, follow their every movement, every look, gesture, smile.
Beginning of the concert: the hall is immersed in red, sounds powerful A Pain That I'm Used To. Dave Gahan appears on the stage in a classic jacket, which is not quite typical for an event of this kind. A little later, of course, he will get rid of it and remain in the usual fans black vest. And after a few songs, he will get rid of it in the same way.
Every appearance on the stage is a celebration. He gives everything to the audience without hesitation. And the audience responds in kind. His hypnotic voice, his body, seems never to lose its flexibility and grace. Milan, Italy, full of passion and hot blood. Dave, inspired by all this, gives hot movements, twists the microphone in his hands, sends “air kisses”. Despite the fact that already on the third song seven sweats come off him, he is still amazing and energetic.
The appearance of Martin Gore on stage is a real mystery, making the audience freeze in awe. During the performance of the stunning (and perhaps the best song performed by Martin) Home, the hall seems to freeze, it seems that everything in the world slows down.
It's worth seeing, it's worth feeling.
The concert was performed as songs from the new album of that year (I repeat, one of the best in their career), and old hits of the British. Crazy Just Can't Get Enough, the most powerful I Feel You, damn sexy Behind The Wheel (during the performance of which lucky fans in the front row of the dance floor manage to touch the frontman). Just a genius Personal Jesus, without which no concert of the group can do; the crazy unity of the dispatchers of the whole country, when everyone sings the chorus Enjoy The Silence, or at the end of the song Never Let Me Down Again up, giant waves of the unchanging living sea of hands!
It's all there.
