I'm sorry if you can... The film-play “Star boy” in 1957, it seems, has become a rarity these days. It has never been released on DVD or even on VHS, and has never been seen on TV. The other day he accidentally discovered this authentic masterpiece, which immediately got into purely favorite fairy tale films and took a worthy place in the home film collection.
I know that some viewers do not like such a common attribute of old productions as a travesty, someone does not quite like that the film is slightly based on motives (in the original, Oscar Wilde does not have such a happy ending, there are other differences). However, in my opinion, all this does not spoil the impression of the film.
The most important thing is that this is an extremely strong and talented production with such an amazing, deep and sincere performance of the actors that I just had a compressed heart, could not take off the screen. I really liked that the production perfectly conveys the deeply Christian message of this harsh and terrible as life itself and, in general, not quite a children's fairy tale.
The young hero at the beginning commits actions, unfortunately, very typical for many of us (mocking defenseless animals, and then his own mother). As a result, he is forced for many years to atone for these actions with suffering for truth and deeds of mercy, to overcome the most difficult temptations. It is very difficult and bitter to watch as the hero remains alone in the whole world, hearing from everywhere only the reproaches of those whom he once cruelly offended. Indeed, there is nothing more difficult and bitter than the burning reproaches of conscience. This is the only way to forgive.
How many of us have wondered where the root of this inexplicable, incomprehensible childish cruelty, for which we are sometimes painfully ashamed for the rest of our lives? The answer is given by another amazing (in all senses) character of the film - an evil wizard (by the way, the actor is beautiful, and his costume is more than worthy). Unambiguously calling himself the master of all world evil (not otherwise, Satan himself?), this evil, being finally defeated, confesses that it was he who persecuted the hero, and then made himself and people cruel on the mountain. And only the true sacrificial love of the boy, up to the readiness to die and his sincere repentance make evil powerless.
Wonderful production (as a pity that so long have not been able to do!) with a pleasant charm of the era, piercing the heart with bitterness and able to make think about their lives not only children, but also adults.
