Plot. David and Freya are a happy couple moving into a new country house. Shortly after they get the keys to their dream home, someone’s suicide breaks their peace of mind. David is forced to unravel the mystery of this tragedy, but the closer he gets to the truth, the more difficult his relationship with Freya becomes. David must risk everything just to find reality.
Pros. I liked literally everything: beautiful actors, convincing and inspired play, competent directing, shooting and sound design. You can’t say “I don’t believe”, just wonderfully everything is done and played, although in places, it seems, it would be quite possible to succumb to pepper.
A picturesque piece of wildlife is successfully served, against the background of which the main events took place. Impressive love triangle. “Animals” scenes with a deer, a ferret and a cat are a great move to nightmarish the viewer.
Cons. Some episodes of the plot are too stretched, but this is a tribute to the genre, a strong rejection did not cause. Features. Although in general the film exploits ordinary human fears, still in some places they feel a touch of a special Western mentality.
According to the genre, the film is positioned as a thriller and at first it was perceived only as such, but from a certain place a pure detective began.
It is curious that the peculiarity of the psyche of the protagonist associated with his extreme suspiciousness, at times transformed into an incomprehensible mysticism with some visual or auditory hallucinations. In part, these episodes were used in the plot as elements of a thriller, and everything seemed to flow into something more, so to speak, plot-forming ... So it happened, but it is a pity that only in the very end, when the answer to the question - and what was it really? - will definitely not.
And in general, the film left many questions: about the duality of the behavior of the hero’s girlfriend, about the real role of the “villain”, about the identity of the bride of the deceased.
Conclusion. Recently, the technique is increasingly used in the cinema, when all the cards seem to be mixed several times: first everything is clear and obvious, then again not clear, then again clear, etc. In my opinion, a good technique for such films: skillful driving the viewer by the nose along the intricate corridors of the plot.
For the film a hard five.
