Raw. Unfinished. Seriously, if you have enough strength to watch this cartoon, then you will definitely say these two words that are in the title. So what didn't please me?
Plot. It is based on one of the stories of Jack London about a dog that passed from a sled dog to a feral beast that went home to free wolf ancestors. It tells about the adventures of the mestizo shepherd and Laika Buck and his friends, the mongrel Gava and the wolf Santi. So this trio explores wildlife, get acquainted with races, make new friends and fight back enemies.
The plot, to put it mildly, is ill-conceived and even more too obvious. The feeling that they wanted to do something really extraordinary and dynamic, but replaced it all with frames from the book and the voice of the narrator. It’s like a series of lost things. It seems clear - about what, but it is shown quite little and weakly. The seeds are good, but not developed.
Drawing and animation. Well, whatever. This is a kind of business card of the company that produces these products. And here the dampness of the entire cartoon is most clearly visible. The fact is that for any comic book (from average to magnificent), such a drawing would be unique, stylish and attractive; but for animation it is, to put it mildly, squalor. It can not be said that it is ugly or clumsy and with too bright colors, the thing is different - it is neither an animation, but only its sketches (storyboard, first sketches and concepts), and the same storyboards sometimes seem the most creative. I understand that there are talented animators who immediately think through the appearance and personal traits of each of the characters, but here you can clearly see: laziness, lack of time, everything is done in a hurry. So in the comic would look cool (plus if even worked on all hundred characters and plot), but not in animation.
Characters. For some reason, they look too much like the Bolto characters. However, to the credit of the cartoon, the main character Buck is better than Bolto, even if the plot concentration is mainly not on him. He is energetic, reasonable and self-confident, is not a pacifist (if you can not resolve the conflict peacefully, then a little strength must be shown), bold and fair, and he would use his wolf essence, if he had it, kind to Santi. Santi the wolf I kind of like, but she has too few lines and too little involvement in anything extreme. Butling Gav is mostly irritable due to her song and moodiness - not much needed here. The villains are like three – the dog Spitz (typical bully) and someone else. I don't remember, a little stamped. It will be forgotten quickly.
In general, yes, the cartoon is weak, but it does not cause pure negativity. I'm kind today.
6 out of 10
P.S. As a materials hunter and collector, I know Bolto's mother is a dog (the scene was cut), but if I didn't know it, I'd think his parents were Buck and Santi.
