Books for the new kidnappers — Review on the comedy thriller "Trap" Liam is the owner of a small advertising agency. Charming conqueror of women's hearts and insidious womanizer he cheats on his wife tirelessly with anyone. One day, Alex, one of the girls he abandoned, decides to take revenge on Liam. She persuades her friends Jane and Shelley, whom he also used in the recent past and cruelly deceived, to a cunning plan: the object must be seduced, kidnapped, tied up and, repenting for what he did, “put on a platter” a tidy sum of two million dollars, besides, they intend to blackmail Liam with frank, revealing photos that are ready to give him to his wife. Alex takes his brother Kip into the case - a complete idiot and a douche. It is clear that nothing good can be expected from a quartet of crazy amateurs.
Comedy thriller from the duo of directors-debutants in the person of Joshua Wagner and Thomas Zomback (surname is a complete delight) according to their own script plan. Mr. Zomback, however, has already directed one minor thriller, for which colleague Wagner wrote (no, not music) the script. The film was repeatedly shown at small festivals and received several prestigious awards (not the Saturn Prize, of course, but it will also work). This is a comedy thriller, not a “black” comedy, there is no cynicism and cruelty pouring from the screen mudflows, but on the contrary – more or less civil and easy. This film reminded me of another picture similar in universal idiocy - "Crazy Bitches" (2014), shot in the same year with "Trap", but inferior to her in the dynamics of events.
Many people say that the film is incredibly boring. It’s like watching: if during the viewing for the hundredth time to contemplate your favorite “Lord of the Rings” Jackson or “The Beginning” Christopher Nolan, along the way distracted by masturbation with your hands, then yes – the picture produces a completely hopeless effect. Another thing is when you completely immerse yourself in this low-budget work with your head, noting all the subtleties and barbs of a couple of valiant directors, because there is a smart plot, uncouth humor, coupled with non-banal dialogues, naked mammary glands and a couple of bloody murders.
In the picture, although there is some retardation and a little overloaded scenes, nevertheless, I do not want to scold the debutants, they coped well with the budget provided, disposing of them to a “full reel”. Dressed in masks of various animals, our furious heroes will harm not only the main culprit of the “celebration”, but also themselves. Scenes of torture like putting a rag with dichlophos (!) in the mouth will make you smile more than once and tune in the right way - "genius" bullying hapless kidnappers. Amazingly, the cast coped just brilliantly with the task set before them, the play of young artists does not cause complaints, forcing them to watch with trepidation what is happening. On the other hand, they are all professionals, more than once lit up in the cinema. We are waiting for a lot of fun situations, two scenes of female nudity, a small fraction of not very bloody killings, there is an unusually common strangulation with a teddy bear (!). Girls are cute, their fights look alive. The character of Kip (not a worker for the maintenance of control and measuring equipment or in the common people “KIP Sheep”) performed by Patrick Kronen carries such a mess that you want to rustle to unconsciousness, listen – you will not regret it. The main characters also do not lag behind him, and when they brought Detective Clive Lewis to the house from the private “Member Department”, I almost died with a laugh. There will be dramatic moments in the film, immediately replaced by homeric laughter of the viewer. The female double will even have some old feelings for the hostage, which will lead their entire plan to the expected collapse. Operating work, lighting and installation at the proper level for the debut, do not expect to see the delights. Do not rush to turn off the player on the opening stage, the idiocy of which is off the scale, and you risk getting happy minutes of comic situations beyond the edge, occurring in all this "kotovasia" of lawlessness. The ending is average in its predictability – “not shampoo”, but “roll”.
Do not strongly and without any need to scold the picture “Trap”, it is clear that the creators tried as best they could. You always have to give it a chance. May all be well with them in the future movies. The score on imdb, by the way, is quite high for this kind of project. In general, a pleasant pastime is provided for you!
