Star cantina The echoes of the events that took place in May 1977 are still felt by the international community, because no one can dispute the cultural influence that George Lucas’ Star Wars had on cinema in general. Subsequently titled “A New Hope”, the film presented to the public unprecedented miracles, which previously could only be dreamed of. George Lucas sent into oblivion spaceships driven by ropes, made a real technological revolution and came up with one of the most memorable cult stories, creating virtually his own religion. Once you watch Star Wars, you will never forget about it. It is possible that they will not catch your soul, as happened to the vast majority of viewers, but one thing is for sure – you will never forget what you saw. Of course, in comparison with the new-fangled multimillion-dollar blockbusters created solely for the triumph of computer graphics, “New Hope” in 1977 may seem a little outdated, and yet if you go back to it and revise, then any shortcomings in the battle scenes and the chase are more than compensated for by Lucas’ outstanding plot, confident directing and live acting work, giving unimaginable fabulous believable notes. The original "Star Wars" simply cannot turn into an irrelevant classic of the past years, because the problems they set forth are still relevant. And most importantly, the film doesn’t focus on any particular time period. Events are not tied to Earth or even our galaxy. Thanks to this approach, Lucas’ ideas are always fresh and sometimes worth returning to, because fiction with meaning is now in severe deficit.
Such an impressive influence on world culture, which produced "Star Wars", could not but spread much further than the cinematic universe. What’s more, Star Wars didn’t even think of limiting itself to licensed themed products that included books, comics, and games. The true love of millions of fans resulted in all sorts of thematic meetings, role-playing games, quizzes and shooting amateur crafts on the theme of the space Saga. Having access to modern technologies that allow you to shoot virtually anything you want at no cost, enthusiasts went to shoot their own Star Wars, unfolding near the adventures of Luke Skywalker himself. The number of short films associated with the Saga is replenished annually with many copies, some of which can be considered independent masterpieces. And if ordinary amateurs are capable of a feat, then what about real professionals who do not hesitate to show warm feelings for the brainchild of Lucas, creating their original sketches on the theme of the Far, Far Galaxy.
Related products with the Star Wars logo have been wildly popular since New Hope. Every respectful film fan sought to get his hands on at least one thing associated with his favorite hobby, because of which the release of thematic products became threatening to common sense scale. Even those viewers who for some reason bypassed “Star Wars” attention, at least once came into contact with the production of the film in the store or on the street. Gradually, the heroes of the Saga appeared not only in the format of game figures, but also decorated themselves with mugs, plates, bed linen and towels. There was not a single household item that wasn’t handed out by Lucasfilm’s marketing and merchandising specialists. Of particular interest to the public was the clothes, thanks to which you can not only stand out against the background of the masses, but at the same time tell everyone about your favorite film, without telling everyone indiscriminately about it. The undying popularity of “Star Wars” drew the attention of the Adidas Corporation, which believed that it would be useful to join forces with George Lucas and release a series of sports products. Fans received this information with indescribable excitement. The advertising company began to spin with great force, and its crown was the release of a brilliant television video Star Wars: Adidas Originals - Cantina, rightly considered one of the best in its segment.
The plot of the video unfolds in the place known to every viewer of the very first "Star Wars" - Kantina Mos-Isley, located on the planet Tatooine. It was here that Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi came in search of a pilot who would agree to take them to Alderaan without further ado. Star Wars: Adidas Originals - Cantina does not have any special semantic load, but only allows us to plunge again into the world of Star Wars, feeling the unique atmosphere of Kantina with original additions. All the key moments of the classic scene were expanded, augmented and changed with the participation of footballer David Beckham, rapper Snoop Dogg and comedian Jay Baruchel. Each of them tried on Adidas things in the style of “Star Wars” and played small scenes. So Snoop Dogg, according to tradition, was not averse to drinking alcohol, but instead of enjoying it, he had to get a lightsaber, mutilating the arrogant Dr. Evazan. As for David Beckham, he partially played the image of Han Solo in the famous episode with the mercenary Grido. It is worth noting that Harrison Ford himself also appeared in the frame, but his tasks were somewhat different from those of Beckham. Well, staff cheerful Jay Baruchel played himself, idle walking around Kantina and becoming the cause of several accidents, for which he can be thanked.
This short film attracts attention by the fact that the stars were artificially inserted into the scene with Kantina. That is, the creators did not partially reshoot “New Hope”, and with the help of technology charmingly changed it, thereby preserving the spirit of the original source. David Beckham, Snoop Dogg and Jay Baruchel had a great time during filming, looking quite organic in an alien environment. Although they did not have to do special work, they had to copy the habits of the famous predecessors. Of course, no one limited the creative findings of celebrities. The same Snoop Dogg could not but use his criminal style in the image of a brave Jedi, which only pleased both his fans and fans of Star Wars. From both the technological and creative side, Star Wars: Adidas Originals – Cantina is virtually flawless. Advertising was created with love for the source, which cannot but affect its favorable perception.
“Star Wars: Adidas Originals – Cantina” proves that not all commercials are equally annoying. If you approach the business with enthusiasm, try to create a really worthwhile work even for a purely commercial order, the finished result is often more than acceptable. The creators of Star Wars: Adidas Originals – Cantina did their best to please us with a cute parody of the George Lucas Space Saga, for which they are worth thanking. I can say with confidence that this advertisement will not cause you irritation and will definitely like it.
