Solo of the "dead" poet Dr. Bird's Tips for Sad Poets changed its title to My Psychologist - Mr. Dove. The literal translation of the film decided to localize for the last 2 years, since the film was marked for viewing in 2021. But from the rearrangement of the parts of the sum does not change, so let's start.
The film attracts with its inserts and remarks, the hero James Whitman tries to overcome depression after the disappearance of his sister, which makes Mr. Dove appear. The clouding on the stressful soil is caused by conflicts in the family, which are expressed in the cruelty of the father and the pacifism of the mother.
The picture leads the narrative on behalf of the main character, constantly addressing the viewer. Operating work jumps from ordinary symmetry to flashback inserts. The shooting itself is striking: after the usual and linear plot, noir shooting and scenes of the silent film era with subtitles fly out. Unusuality in adolescence is always an interesting element, so their own thoughts and experiences are interrupted by the appearance of the girl Sophie, who became the link between James and his missing sister.
Romance mixed with the investigation of the disappearance throws the young social phobia in the seedlings of parties, new acquaintances, fears of communication with the opposite sex. This is a new version of Jerome Selinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, only in a more modern society, although the problems of teenagers are always relevant.
In addition to youthful awkwardness and petty flirtation, we are waiting for the search for the missing girl. Surprisingly, you do not feel the darkness and the thriller (perhaps a bright palette of colors contributed to this), but only continuous adventures. A closed party for a game of croquet in an aristocratic estate, a trip to the woods in search of a solution, a secret sect with a very perverted sensei. The film seems to push back the main idea, allowing the characters to open up to each other.
One of the advancements of the plot is talking to parents, of course, separately, to reveal past behavior in the present tense. All this is seasoned with certain insertions, thoughts of the hero and conversations with Mr. pigeon. It is thanks to the unusual shooting that this work can be compared with the works of Us Anderson and the film “Amelie” by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
When all the adventures are over, we are met by a light drama, leaving the ending open. The film is an adaptation of the novel, the story of growing up is not new in the film field, but thanks to an interesting montage, funny stakes "My psychologist - Mr. Dove" catches and leaves a pleasant aftertaste after watching.
